It's time I moved into the modern days! We officially mounted up disc on my race bike. So stoked on how this Chase Bicycle came together. #HowToBleedBrakes #WinWithChase
Brh, I’ve finally decided to test disc brakes. Traditionalists yup! Wanted to map how to do maintenance, plus understand the best way to make the system mine. Your the only person I found who maps and builds with the best video angle with universal language. Dam good. Subscribed!
Wow! "Nothing beats the feeling of a Shimano Brake Lever!" That phrase is such a blast from my past BMXing in the 80s and first getting into modifying my bike. That first feel of installing a Shimano break was just the most amazing thing since the first riding of the Bike or maybe more so.
I like that disk kit, I didnt know that was a thing. Last year I drilled my own internal routing on my childhood hoffman flash frame. It's not rigged, it's custom
I have a disc on my BMX and it's been nice so far. I think my next BMX will be disc-only with no bosses for v-brakes. I know a few guys who run xtr. I actually run a Saint (I know - way overkill) but it has gold accents which match the rest of my bike. Weight penalty isn't too bad either.
Man so good to see you acceling just the other day was going through all the old photos and found some from that first load of dirt I got. Hit me up when you are back in town and congrats on the dad life buddy nothing better
New bike looks sweet! Good catch on the DOT fluid mistake. I'd recommend taking the wheel off and putting a bleed block in the caliper. You can't bleed a brake properly if the pistons can move in the caliper.
Dam 🤦♂️ can't remember my oG comment haha but yeah same same great vid.!! Clean disc looks mint.!! No rim wear and decals stay freshhhh.!! Ups 🤘💯 funny enough I own a 21' Element and didn't even think about the mineral oil that is wrote, clear as day on the lever haha didn't even pick up on it in the vid 😅
Disk brakes are overkill. I would consider a mechanical one if I had to. Having to bleed more brakes i addition to my MTb and DH bike… doesn’t interest me. Does look cool though
Barry I'm 34 years old. Raced 1997 to 2005. And then started again 2019 with my son. Obviously lots of changes... but dude, idk the last time I used my brakes on the track. Do you HONESTLY believe there's any difference when it comes down to the nitty gritty? Nvm I already know your answer. 🤣
That's funny. I agree but I have aluminum rims and still hate how they rub the finish off. I found a deal that included a set of odyssey t1000s but the tops of the flames were all worn off. They could have been saved...by the disc brake
i know those bikes are for short race but i am using for long distances ride with flow with traffic 25 and up thinking 🤔 with 48 peregrine rims and with disk brakes add on what you think it fit and can you youtube a video of the 48 peregrine rims i am talking about ??
I disagree that it's the same as Sram brakes. After you are finished, the Shimano brakes will work for years untouched. The only disc brakes I have ever seen that I would own.
Wouldn’t you be able to use the same type of rim for front and back using the disk brake setup? Availability might be an issue, so being able to use the same rims may save the day in a pinch.
Carbon frame is not over kill at all. That’s like comparing a nascar to an F1 car. It’s all about the best performance and finding every 1% gain that better performance. A v-brake will wear down a carbon rim so using disc brakes gives a carbon rim a much longer life
@@barrynobles95 I was only joking about the carbon fiber frame being overkill because I can't afford one. If I ran carbon rims I would run a disc set up for sure as those rims are expensive too.
So I was watching another video on UA-cam that suggested you can use baby oil apposed to the expensive hydro oil’s…can you confirm if this is correct or no please? Maybe something to do with the mineral oils rather than Dot fluids though still?
Technically almost all brake fluid will work. I used to run baby oil and car brake fluid (don't really do this) this worked ,but wasn't worth the risk. I sold that bike so I dont know what happened to them. Just don't take the risk and go to your local bike shop. Baby Oil is only if you can't get your hands on it.
I would only use the right stuff, on Shimano brakes that is their own mineral oil. Magura mineral oil or trickstuff mineral oil does also work. Using other brake fluids does not work because it damages the seals inside these brakes, they are completely ruined if you use dot brake fluid
Hi Barry, Whatever happened with the Berd spokes and the carbon rims you laced up? Did you test them on the dirt jumps? Wondering how they held up. I keep seeing people lace them up but never any serious tests. Thanks Jake
I want to go disk on my sons next set of wheels, my concern is I’m doing everything I can to keep weight down and a disk set up looks chunky and adding weight for small gains, but the cool factor does stand out 🤔, and that is most important to kids (and me)😆
Disc doesn't worry about weather that much. I run disc during the rain which is nice so you wont loop out , and its nicer because you don't really fidget with it as much as a cone top of a leaver.
Magura royal blood isn't the same as shimano mineral oil dude. It's better than dot fluid (won't completely destroy everything) but it's still not the right fluid
@@barrynobles95 you can use either Shimano, Magura or Trickstuff mineral oil in these, that doesn't really matter. You just can't use Dot fluid because the Shimano seals inside the brake will swell up from it
Felt like you over complicated the brake video, but yet again I just jam that cable in and tighten down til it won't come out and I call it a day. No cut cables , No bleeding , just put on , bed in , and ride.
Haha your a savage. I was once like that. Never cared and would just ride anything. But something about going to these bikes they deserve to always be clean and race ready
Yo Barry I’m sorry to say that to u but u ruined ur brake. U have to bleed Shimano brakes always from top to bottom and never under pressure because there is a membrane in your brake lever that gets damaged if it gets pressure from below.
Brh, I’ve finally decided to test disc brakes. Traditionalists yup! Wanted to map how to do maintenance, plus understand the best way to make the system mine. Your the only person I found who maps and builds with the best video angle with universal language. Dam good. Subscribed!
Love the tip about aligning the brake that saved me hours of messing about to get it aligned 👍

Doing a full bleed is tough, especially on the rear. I recommend taking off the back wheel and putting in a bleed block to avoid contamination.

Hey man. Cosmetic horse power is a real thing
personally, I would have run mechanical instead of hydraulic disc brakes. Those XTR levers are sweet!
Love your videos Barry! Keep up the great work my man!

That bike looks so dialed 👌 loving the sand/black/red colourway 😍🔥
I learned a lot working on my own bike…couldn’t afford the bike shop. Thanks for the tutorial
Great video, love to see the progress of upgrading your brakes from v-brekes to disk.
I think this is one of my favorite videos bro. Keep it up thanks
New bike looks sweet! Good catch on the DOT fluid mistake. I'd recommend taking the wheel off and putting a bleed block in the caliper. You can't bleed a brake properly if the pistons can move in the caliper.
My chase element came with disc brakes with no mounts for v-brakes but I’ve always had v-brakes but gotta say a love my disc brakes.

Benefit of profile hubs is that you'll never hear the rotors rubbing!😁
Although hydraulic is overkill the one finger lever feeling is 👌. Nice PSAs. lol

You the man Barry an inspiring bmx rider
Thanks for everything
Very good mechanical engineering skillsBarry
Hey…. We’re your logos matched up on those wheels?!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣
Agreed.

@@jbear9989 Yeah I agree. If I had fancy rims I'd probably would want the same.
Happy New Year!🤙😎
Why aren't there brakes on the front? Are all front wheel brake tricks just obsolete today?
No need for them in bmx racing
listen 👂 i will like to know if you remember 48 peregrine rims using that but adding the disc brakes on can it fit?

You should use crc brake clean. It works much better than alcohol.

Correct but luckily companies are starting to plan for that and have matching sets ready
What about the olive?
can you put disk brakes on a 48 peregrine rims?
Top a bike 👏👏
Your new intro still needs to have Yela in it. Imho. BAMA.
Oh I already have the Yela song picked out!
do you have to dish your wheel with the disc brake mount in between the frame and the hub
The lever feel is sooooooooo smooth but crazy overkill for bmx, a little bit like carbon fiber frames haha.

why not both?
I just got my son a chase 4.0 rsp. I can add disc breaks, I don't know if it's going to be good for him. He's 8 years old, 9 in May
It’s all preference. Not a must have
Would this kit work on a 29r big flyer...thinking of changing to disc brakes
No this is for chase frames
Brakes are overrated 😁
They are

Are you using a oval front disk
Nope

review is still to come. We have had the worst weather the last few months and havent been able to ride that bike...It'll be here soon!

Disc brakes are totally unnecessary for BMX. Especially hydraulic
Not really

Do not get that slick product on your rotor…
