Ash is actually the Alola champ. The FIRST EVER Alola champ actually. But because the Alola league just started it's only really locally known. News hasn't quite spread to other regions yet I guess.
The reason Jessie is obsessed with Gourgeist is because she used one in the X and Y series and she developed a very strong bond with it. Also the reason Team Rocket look different in this arc is because they're in disguise as their podcast personas doing coverage of the tournament. Yes, Team Rocket became podcasters a few episodes before the tournament kicked off and are actually pretty popular in universe (if this seem random it's actually a reference to their Japanese Voice Actors starting up an in character radio program so it's a pretty fitting closing point for their characters.)
Not sure if you guys will see this before the next episode, but I just wanted to include some helpful context. 1. Iris is one of Ash's old travelling companions, and basically his female counterpart, personality-wise. The two of them constantly try to outdo each other, and both probably came into the Masters 8 with the hope that they'd make it to the top and battle each other for the win. Ash immediately knew to comfort her when she lost because he knew she wouldn't take it well and that he was the only person there she'd vent to. 2. Alan was the protagonist of a mini series that focused exclusively on Mega evolution, and was Ash's biggest rival during the tail end of his Kalos journey, narrowly beating him at the Kalos league championship. Journeys completely glosses over their relationship and also did Alan dirty in his fight against Leon, so its not really suprising that he didnt leave much of an impression. 3. Every one of the Masters 8 is a Champion of their own respective region, except for Alan. Ash is the champion of the Alola league, as well as the Orange Island league (which technically isn't official) and also conquered the battle frontier years ago - even turning down an offer to become a frontier brain. Oddly, him winning the battle frontier is rarely mentioned as one of his key achievements, despite arguably being a greater feat that anything else mentioned here. 4. The entire Ultimate Journeys series is a tournament arc, where each person had to battle their way through droves of top tier trainers to increase their rank and make it to the finals. For the other champions and Alan, they were able to accomplish this in their own regions. But because the Alola league is brand new and Ash's standing as champion is only common knowledge in Alola, he had to go from region to region, battling gym leaders and elite four members to climb the ranks. Although relatively inexperienced as a champion, he's on pretty much equal footing with everyone there.
They CAN dodge technically. They utilised it a lot more in previous series tournaments but now there's a lot of just..standing and taking the hit 😂😂 8 best trainers in the world eh! 😂 to be fair they're clearly saving their budget for the final battle in this part
Man seeing iris again was so hype for me, especially because of Haxorus! Back in B&W he was only a little Axew that would hide in iris’s hair, and now he’s such a strong battler! 🥹 Jessie had a Gourgeist In Pokémon Black and White, That’s why she wanted Diantha’s Gourgeist to win.
@@nickdentoom1173 omg yeah, it’s not that they’re ghost types, I just forgot which ones they had in B&W & could only remember the X&Y ones. after I said she had Gourgeist I was trying to remember which one James had, and all I could think of was Inkay but I knew inkay was X&Y so I had to look it up to see it was Yamask for B&W, but I knew Inkay and Gourgeist went together so idk how I still mixed up Jessie’s too 😅
Ash is the alolan champion Lance for kanto (red, blue) No-one for Johto Steven for hoenn (ruby, sapphire) Cynthia for sinnoh (diamond, pearlk Iris for unova (black, white) Diantha for kalos (x,y) Ash for alola (sun, moon) Leon for galar (sword, shield) Alain
I'm disappointed Iris didn't get the win. She didn't use any of the gimmicks against Cynthia using a Mega. Plus we would have an Iris vs Ash rematch in Journeys since they fought early in the series
I first played Red way back at the end of the 90's start of 2000's. Charizard is still my favorite Pokèmon, but my favorite starter TRIO are the Galar ones (!) AKA Cinderace, Rillaboom and Inteleon
Gourgeist in the first episode was actually really neat! Trick-or-treat turning the opponent into a Ghost type and then using Shadow Sneak which usually goes first for super effective damage is really cool!
Lance is the johto champion Steven is the hoenn champion Cynthia is the Shinoh champion Iris is the Unova champion Diantha is the kilos champion Ash is the aloha champion And leon is the galar champion
@@nickdentoom1173 The games, Manga, and anime adaptation all have blue as the Kanto Champion so I just never think of Lance as being the Kanto champion. Even though the anime did actually say it in this particular continuity.

@@robinmartin2818Blue doesn’t exist in the anime and Gary didn’t win the Pokémon League. Kanto and Johto share the same Elite Four so Lance is the Champion of both regions.
@@nickdentoom1173 Also Alain is only in the anime not the games and i was referring to the champion of each gen, so i wasn't really talking about him anyway
@@ikirbeeburgr Ash is the Champion, not because he won the league, but because he was the first ever league winner and they didn't have a champion before Ash. But in other regions, you cannot become a champion before defeating the champion.
why no more reactions? I've watched all the Journeys reactions on the blindwave website as well, and I was hoping to get one this week, but I unfortunately can't seem to find any more. Are you taking a break?
and i can't wait to face Diantha for the first time in my long life. I finally bought both Nintendo 3D's AND Pokèmon X game. which means, i will fight against Mega evolutions. well, only 3 of them technically- one of which is the Mega Gardevoir you guys saw
Thing is: We already saw Lance vs Leon. Now... in reality, what they should have done is have Iris face Lance, then her facing Leon... while Ash destroys both his opponents.
and Hydriegon without a type change can't withstand a powerful FAIRY ATTACK. both dragon and dark are weak to fairy, so Hydriegon is 4 times weak to it

Janci: I watched Sun and Moon
Also Janci: So Ash is a non-champion facing 7 champions?
Put some respect on the reigning Alola League champ!
She never said she watched all of it

Iris was one of the companions Ash had. That is how he knew her Pokemon. Her growth is almost as impressive as Ash's been.
Not to speak about Haxorus's growth. Dude nearly took down Garchomp... Cynthia realized she needed to Mega, else she would have lost.
