People who criticize metal music have no idea just how fucking hard this shit is to do. Screaming without destroying your vocal chords, screaming while delivering a melodic tone (Duplantier is one of the best), shredding while singing, the polyrhythms, the time signatures. This is raw talent.

But the intro and initial speed of this version are brutal as hell. I love it. Metal prodigy indeed. Untouchable in my book. Carcass is my modern favorite but this has so much more emotional content. For sheer virtuoso songwriting and metal impact, Carcass is hard to touch. But I don’t like to pit my faves against each other. They’re both at the top of my world. Good luck to any others trying to reach such heights. ALL modern extreme metal owes so much to Carcass. Be a denier. Go ahead. There was before Heartwork, and after Heartwork, and the influence across the metal spectrum cannot be denied. But on the Tenth Day, there was Gojira. Truly incredible. To me the French and more progressive Sepultura.
Convergence, they bring everything we love about metal: technical, speed, aggressiveness, power, loudness, heaviness, emotions, rage, tears, fist pumping, neck wreck and a lot of ''FUCK YEAH MOMENTS''... They are establishing themselves as the next flagship of metal music my friends!!!

The only explanation I can think of for the boredom that is Magma is that Mario's stamina couldn't maintain for the amazing drum lines thats such a big part of the Gojira sound. Better luck next time guys. Magma puts me to sleep.
As they were writing the album their mother fell ill and died. So apparently much of the album is about her death. So I think that explains the more somber mood.
HOLY SHIT, joes voice here is genuinely fucking MINDBLOWING. L'enfant sauvage truly was the peak of his voice. How is stuff like 3:41 and beyond even humanly possible without shredding your vocal chords? Actually the only voice in metal to give me goosebumps. Ive yet to see a single video showing how to sound like joe during this era. They all focus on his post magma vocals, which are "easier" to do when compared to this era, tho any of his pitched screams are still EASILY the hardest type of metal screams to do without harming your vocal chords in the long run.
