7:46 idk if you ever played Kingdom Hearts, but it could be a workaround for what you said. You use 3 buttons to move and jump, then other two buttons to move inside a little menu (Like attack, magic, item, ability) and select what you want to do with the last button

In the third axis level, you can put the hight resolution with 15fps and it will be much smoother and 30fps doesn't even make a difference lol

Honestly the last one is less impressive to me than the one with the height mapping. It's a more impressive rendering method, but my guess is its using the same projection method that the one TI-inspire Minecraft project uses. It's certainly impressive, but it look like the demo level is simple due to current limitations of the engine they've created.
