This was a great informative video. Thank you father Benedict. Not just for the videos. But for making a difference in those boys lives. In this secular, if it feels good do it world. It is very difficult for anyone to try to live a Godly life. But especially for teenage boys. May God bless you. The minor seminary. And all who are taking part. Doing God’s work raising those boys to be men of God. I will keep all of you in my prayers. And make monetary donations when ever I can.
O what great joy it is to serve our Lord as an acolyte (non-ordained). Closest a layman like myself will ever come to throne of God on this side of eternity. Great video Fr. Benedict Hughes. I still make some of the mistakes you showed in the video. I should be more careful. I loved the word 'diginfied'. We're servinge the Lord - it's an honor to be able to do and although it might sound sexist, I feel like repeating the prayers Orthodox Jews pray, "Thank you God for making me a man and not a woman." Women are awesome but men have a special role to play in the rebuilding our dear Mother Church.
Good afternoon Fr. Hughes, I am one of two servers for a small community in northern Ontario. What was that prayer for servers while putting on the surplice in Latin? I could not quite hear it well enough to write it out. I would like hang the prayer in our sacristy, as I am planning on training some other men in the upcoming months. Pax.
Note for Servers: Please check with your Priest if the prayers I have given you in the comment section are completely correct. I ask that you do this for two reasons, I may have copied them wrong, and I found them on a website run by Una Cum, Extraordinary Form Novus Ordites.
Yes! Girls can not be "altar servers", because the position of acolyte (the proper name for an "altar boy") is supposed to be a path to priesthood, or the diaconate.
Prayer as you Wash your Hands: (It seems to be the same as that of the Priest.) Da Domine, Virtutem manibus meis ad abstergendam omnem maculam ut sine pollutione mentis et corporis valeam tibi servire.
