    I have been studying up on coconut oil for many years and found that coconut oil is a healing oil it kills bacteria , unclogs pores, neutralizes oily hair soothes very dry skin and hair etc. I found and read that you sit the area you are try to heal for about 20 minutes than cleanse that area. Once the area has cleared up than you stop using it cause the oil has done it job if you continue to use onut oil it will have a drying effect. the only time I find it will clog your pores is you leave the oil on the area you are treating for a extended amount of time the oil is made to absorbs into your pores do it's purpose and be cleansed out not to sit that when the clogging comes in.

    Things that are non-comedogenic and are best for your face/hair are:
    1. Mango Butter
    2. Argon Oil
    3. Hemp Seed Oil
    5. Safflower Oil
    6. Shea Butter
    7. Sunflower Oil

    I just started using coconut oil two days ago, and my hair has come alive. My twist out was so gorgeous and my hair is so soft and shiny. I got that exact same one that you have from Thrive Market, it was free. Man I hope it continues to do well with my scalp and hair.

    Coconut oil has helped my hair, when I stopped my hair started breaking bad ... I began using it again my hair began to grew flourished, so I decided to balance it out. just use it as a pre-poo or hot oil treatment twice a month and not use it as a sealant. My hair really needs it.

    I only use coconut oil in the spring and summer. I recently learned that coconut oil and winter weather is no match for my hair! During the winter months I noticed after using coconut oil my hair seems to be dryer, hard and rough... So only warm seasons I will use coconut oil... Thanks for sharing.

    My hair loves coconut oil, however I rarely use only coconut oil by itself. I usually mix it with other natural carrier oils and essential oils. My hair loves it my hair is now tailbone length. Keep up the good work on informing the natural hair community. To be honest I got a lot of great info from your channel in the beginning of my hair growth journey.

    key word she said not everyone. for me I've used olive oil grape seed, castor oil, jojoba, argan , sunflower oil, and lots of different essential oils. ive protected styled and took excellent care of my hair with no growth results and greasy but dry hair. once I switched to coconut oil it's like i could feel the tingling growth, hair looks super healthy and shines from with in the strands, not greasy shine at all. most importantly my hairs half my back in only a year and 4 months. better than my 5 year hair journey with barely making arm pit.

    Its been two-years since I've been on my natural hair journey. I have tried a lot of products and I came across using natural oils that aid in growing natural healthy hair. I came to realize that coconut oil made my hair stronger, shinny, thicker. I wanted to keep up with ever changing trend of trying out every new product. I started using Olive oil in my hair regiment. That was probably the worst thing I could have done. My hair became thinner and was not as long or shinny as it once was. When i did use the coconut oil in my hair I also used castor oil. Those two oils did wonders. My hair was ruined. Lesson learned...never try to keep up with whats trending. If it's working keep using it.... If not find a better but less extreme alternative. Using excessive amounts of oils can really damage your hair. Alopecia is something that women in my family suffer from. I'm trying to prevent it from happening to me... but with my hiccups in world of natural hair care... I found myself aiding to the very thing I was trying to avoid.

    It is also important to have a proper discipline in your diet and activities. You don't just depend on the oil itself. First of all, check your shampoo. Most commercial shampoos contain chemicals that strip off the natural oil of your hair. You may want to substitute it with organic shampoos, or just go with the 'no poo' method. Secondly, you have to eat healthy. Make sure you are getting the nutrients your body needs for the day. Stop eating Mcdonalds or junk food in general. You may indulge yourself, but you may want to do it once in every two weeks. Also, stop drinking alcoholic beverages. You may drink milk, tea and MORE WATER (at least 2 liters a day). Thirdly, workout often (three to four times a week will do). Several studies found that working out can actually make you look younger and make your scalp healthy enough to promote hair growth. Fourth, have some decent sleep. While I don't believe in the 8 hours sleep myth, it is still important that you need to have plenty of hours of sleep. You'd know you have plenty of rest when you wake up not feeling sleepy at all. Don't stress yourself as it is the number one reason for hair loss and other health problems as well. FOR THE GUYS, stop masturbating. While sex is good for the body (and hair), the release of semen during masturbation can result to bad hair or hair loss in general. So you could either stop being a soloist and do the 'no fap' challenge, or just get yourself a partner to help each other. lol The bottom line is you have to be DISCIPLINED in every way to MAXIMIZE the result of the product you are using or in this case the coconut oil. Remember our body does not work independently. What you eat and how you live your life can have adverse effect on our body from head to toe, and that obviously includes the hair.

    For everyone in the comments asking what other oils you can use instead. Some other options of light, non comedogenic oils that are also great for your hair and scale are Jojoba oil, Rosehip oil, Argan oil, Sweet almond oil, Grapeseed oil and you can even try Fractionated coconut oil (it has the fatty acids removed)

    I personally have always had GREAT,no,awesome results with coconut oil.
    But I knew from the beginning the importance of using organic,cold pressed virgin coco-oil.
    I must say however,that I've never tried those hot oil treatments,and I've never used it every day on my scalp,but sometimes once a week, sometimes once a Month. However I follow a very strict low thyroid diet that also increases hair growth and I can only recommend this diet or at least that you follow some parts of it and banish alcohol;caffeine; refined sugar;fast food/ processed foods and try to avoid chemicals and food coloring. I know it sounds harsh,but I literally don't get sugar gravings anymore, I've discovered just how satisfying clean eating is,it cleared up my skin-my skin glows from within,and there's so much DE-licious raw food "candy".-The top healthiest foods in this diet: green leafy veggies, [except for spinach],citrus fruits,nuts/seeds like brazil nuts,walnuts, almonds,chia-/flax-/& sesame seeds,avocado, white potatoes,onions, garlic,carrots,eggs,(lean meat/fresh fish)..etc..& loads of water,green tea,and the only GREAT oil that's recommended for cooking,as salad dressing & as sweetener in smoothies,is:Coconut oil.
    -I hope you/your other viewers will find some of this helpful. The full 'low thyroid diet plan' can be found here on YT. Search:"Diet plan for Hypothyroidism".
    Thanks for your time. xo

    I only use coconut oil as a prepoo. I let it sit on my hair for only a half hour before washing it to limit protein loss (I wash my hair a lot, every 2-3 days). I don't use it as a sealing oil.

  • @mzwandablessedbythebest2228
    @mzwandablessedbythebest2228 7 років тому +4

    The biggest issue with coconut oil is that it has the same effect as a non-softening protein. Hair gets dry, brittle, and tend to break because CO helps retain protein. Those (like myself) who are protein sensitive and NOT allergic to it, coconut oil is an amazing oil that will help keep your hair flourishing. I can't leave it in my hair, but, raw organic coconut oil (along with the Alopecia Free Oil Blend) is my staple mixture for my pre-poo scalp massage.
    With respect to Aloe Vers, I am allergic to "prepackaged" aloe (gel, juice, water, etc.). However, I use the Aloe Vera leaf (purchased from the grocery store) to massage my scalp (after massaging with the oil mixture) prior to shampooing. I also use it on my face when my Lupus flares up. It's amazing!!

    I used to use coconut oil in my hair in the 2nd grade and it kept my straight hair so silky and soft. For a few years though I stopped oiling my hair until I was in the 7th grade because I decided I wanted to grow out my hair. I began using the same the coconut oil as before and it worked wonders. In a little over a year my hair was at waist length. The summer before 10th grade, I noticed my hair began to fall in huge chunks in the shower and out. My hair was at tailbone length now and I couldn't quite understand what was happening. I'm not even kidding, I lost half the hair on my head. I wouldn't even braid my hair anymore because I was so embarrassed of how thin my braid would look. A couple months later I decided to chop it off back to armpit length. This helped with hair fall outside the shower, but my hair was still falling in clumps in the shower, especially after I would oil it. That's when I started oiling my hair less, and as you can imagine, less hair fall. Forward a year later to today, I rarely oil my hair and it's still thin as hell. For some reason though last night I put oil in my hair and when I was washing it out this morning, it began to fall out in big clumps again like it did a year ago. I want my hair to be thick again and I know oil is the best way to do so, but coconut oil isn't doing me good anymore and I don't know what to do :(

      Hello Hun! I am so sorry that you went through all of this. Please know that you are not alone.
      Our bodies change as we get older and what worked for you in grade 2 or 7 may not be working now. Hormonal changed/stress/etc. First thing (if you haven't done so already) is please speak to your dr. and get blood work done. It could be something as simple as a vitamin or mineral deficiency or it could be something that needs more medical intervention. Please stop using oils, however, try massaging your head every night with warm olive oil (only). Do not mix it with any other oil. Sleep with your hair covered with a silk cap/scarf. Lastly, change your diet (if possible). Add more protein (chicken, quinoa), fruits and vegetables. Cut out fast food and processed food. This should help you. Please feel free to keep me posted on any results and please know that you are not alone. I am always happy to help you. Have a great day! xo

    Hair loss is due to Candida overgrowth inside your body. Thats what is causing the dandruff on the scalp and hairloss. Coconut oil works because it is an antifungal. He kind of fixed his hair loss that way but it would of been more effective in combination with an antifungal or antiviral diet.

    Thank you for this video. I am a low porosity girl and have been using over the past year Alba botanica creme (fragrance free and contains coconut oil), since in the winter months my skin gets so dry and I suffer then from eczema , I thought it could be that I am allergic to parfume. However I have noticed that my hair got so much less compairing to when I bigg chopped. I used to twist my hair and by opening it I always forgot to open one twist, due to the amount of hair. I used to spend at least one hour twisting my hair when wet and now I spend like 30 min or less. Was telling my mom that my hair became less and the last months I have been searching for products without coconut in it, cause it make my hair feel stiff and tangled. My hair never really liked coconut, that's why since being natural I never owned a single jar of coconut oil. So you can't imagine how happy I was by seeing this video. I thought immediately that someone was experiencing the same as I did. Because coconut oil is in most of the products, I was wondering if I could use it when there is a little bit of it mixed in a product, but to be honest I am so afraid. I don't want to loss more hair. Since I am prone to eczema during the winter (on my face not on my scalp) months I was thinking about if the itchiness and rashes on my face are due to the eczema or the coconut oil, now that you mentioned getting bumps and things. Once again thanks for this video and would you consider using products where coconut oil is mixed in, since mayority of products contain it as an ingredient?

      Besides that last year in November, my aunt who works in a laboratory told me that coconut oil is no good, she said it clogs the pores and avoid the hair from growing. And I agreed for a part with her since my hair never reacted in a good way when using coconut.

      Hello Hun! I am glad that this video has encouraged you and it has helped you to get answers to some questions that you had. That is always great to hear.
      I would not use products that contain coconut oil, unless I made them myself. That way, I could make sure I am only using an amount that my hair likes. However, my hair is doing great without coconut oil right now, so I may just stick to the coconut oil free products for now. :)
      Have a great day! xo

    I do use the coconut oil in a mixture, it's is organic, virgin, cold pressed, and sometimes I just put coconut oil itself on my ends. I just recently noticed shedding and that my scalp remains dry looking as well as pumps around my edges. Now that you've mentioned all of those things, I'm thinking that my hair may be retaining too much protein. What I think I will do is continue to use the mixture, but maybe only once or twice a month, warmed and continue to wash once a week and co-was with a reconstructor in between. I am trying to regrow my hair as well as my edges. I must admit also that I do perm my hair 2x per year. Thank you for your videos. Yours seem to be the most rational.

    i recently started my natural hair journey in march after my last relaxer. i made a shae butter mixture with castor oil and other oils and my hair was growing wonderfully. unfortunately my hair was breaking uncontrollably and i didn't know why. i figured more or less it was due to my hair transitioning and also at the time i was going through a lot of stress. in about May when i was going through my hair clumps of hair kept falling out (luckily it was mostly relaxed hair). around that time i was on instagram and found a post about coconut oil and at that time i remembered it is high in protein. my relaxed hair is very protein sensitive and very damaged so i guessed that's why it kept breaking off. I've stopped using it all together and haven't experienced any breakage. it currently in braids so ill see the progress after the take down.

    I think the biggest problems with using coconut oil or any oil on your scalp is that you have to wash your hair more frequently. Some people can go two weeks before washing but some need weekly or less. it depends upon you rate of scalp skin shed. I have found if my scalp is dirty than using oil makes it itch and I have more shedding.
    However, when I use coconut o or any oil right after I wash my hair I have no issue.
    like I stated keeping the scalp clean on a regular basis (frequency depends upon the individual) you will not experience the effects.
    the same issue the skin...if your pores or clogged and you are getting break out from coconut oil, it is because you are not thoroughly cleansing your face. You may need to use a face scrub, microdermabrasion, clay face mask regimen to ensure that your pores are adequately unclogged on a regular basis.
    Using oil in an environment where by the scalp or skin is not adequately cleansed causes problems because I believe that coconut oil stimulates scalp renewal and skin renewal at a more rapid rate so there is a need for a more thorough cleansing process.

    I think my sons have developed a dandruff condition from the coconut oil since that's the only new product I've introduced to their daily routine. I've always kept it simply with them. Shower, lotion skin, brush hair. Lately since I've been using coconut oil b/c I love the smell; rub just a bit on their scalp right before school. Suddenly they've developed "patchy dandruff condition." Sometimes UA-cam vids are great, but most times they aren't helpful at all. I keep running around like a mad woman buying expensive, label ridden, natural/organic oils from WholeFoods. It just occurred to me that my first "patchy dandruff" experience happened 2 years ago when I first applied 5 drops of peppermint oil and 2 drops of tee tree oil into my coconut oil. 2 weeks later I'm at the dermatologist freaking out. Just ranting :-) Thank you. This is some very good info

    Coconut oil did not work for me. I had dry hair, shedding hair, itching scalp. I did not realize I was allergic until a few UA-cam natural hair gurus confirmed it. My scalp was also tender.

      my scalp he was tender and tingly and sensitive I also had scabs and my hair started falling out in bunches. I thought it was because of weight loss, but it was because of coconut oil how did you fix the problem? Iwashed my hair with a vinegar water solution & shampoo also did a lemon honey solution. Waiting to see results, how long did it take you before you got results?

    This video helped me realize I still have more research to do, but how can any research be effective if the person doing the research doesn't know what the heck she's looking for?!! I would have never known to look for that. Now I understand why my face is so irritated! I've never had skin problem; no dry or oily skin, no acne, black heads, but lately I've been experiencing this & the only thing that's different is that I use mainly coconut oil & sometimes castor oil. My hair used to thrive & was always so moisturizers when I used Miss Jessie's baby buttercreme (ridden w/ mineral oil). I stopped using & changed my regimen to a love Vera juice, rose water, & those 2 oils yet I walk around with my hair feeling like an oily(coconut oil) Brillo pad or a sticky (castor oil) dust magnet. So now, I switched to mustard seed oil. Lol! My hair feels like it's on fire! I'm having the same effects I get when I used to add vitamin e oil to my hair oils. I'm just an itchy head girl now.

    • @wendygonzalez3475
      @wendygonzalez3475 8 років тому +3

      Miss Jessie's buttercream maybe ridden with mineral oil but you hair was thriving, use what works for you. I use castor oil on my scalp the night before I wash my hair because it's so heavy and sticky. My natural hair likes parabens and silicones, regular drug store stuff like Garnier and Pantene so I just go with it. I use oils like grape seed, avocado,argan etc that are found in some products I already use so I know I'm not allergic to them. Straight coconut oil doesn't work for me it has to be already in the hair product. I learnt by trial and error too. I hope your journey to healthy hair gets easier. Best wishes

I think I will try the other essential oils that you mentioned in the other vlog. Thanks for sharing the info!

    Thanks for sharing this. I heard so much about coconut oil and I went out and got a big jar of it. I was using it for about a month and my hair felt dry and brittle the whole time. It finally started to break off and my skin on my face got so irritated, it looked like I had a terrible bout of acne, but it was in clusters..I was miserable and then it dawned on me that it was the coconut oil. I threw away that jar and have never used straight coconut oil on my hair again. I also try to stay away from products that have coconut oil, high on the ingredients list.

    Cocunut oil worked and works for me. It is imperative when purchasing these oils you are using TRUE ORGANIC products. I was recently out of the country and actually went to a place that made pure coconut oil and there is such a difference in the coconut oil from that experience to what I thought was pure coconut oil here in the United States. the pure coconut oil that I purchased out of the United States was a completely different texture and consistency then what I was used to it actually smells like coconuts if you open your container and it smells anything other than pure coconuts you're probably do not have an organic or 100% natural products another thing to look out for is does oil absorb meaning when you put it on your skin does it sink in or does it just lay there and within an hour you can still rub your hand and your taking oil off your skin if the oil is not absorbing into your skin then that becomes a problem because that will cause clogging and issues with breakouts. I actually find that with natural hair you have to try different things sometimes just like with lotions and you were to rinse your body gets acclimated to a particular item and that it no longer works so you do have to switch up your regimen and then perhaps you can go back to it at a later time. all essential oils are good depending on the person that's using it. what natural hair you have to be open and shouldnt pigeon-hole yourself into one particular brand or one particular product. you must branch out and see what works best for you. I know that creams won't work on my hair texture or my scalp or for my skin so I stick to oils. It is very important that you play around and you take note about what you're using and use one product at a time so you know what's working and what's not.

Now that I have started reading, I now know that a lot of products have it in there. I am going to rid myself of coconut oil and work with products that do not have it in there to see if my guess is right. If I am right, then I am allergic to coconut oil.

I think that's not normal growth. could be because I'm a guy but I'm only 28 yrs old. i tried olive oil a few times so didn't really know if it worked but I'm should try it for couple months. i was gonna try the coconut oil which I don't think I'm allergic but the comments alone says it clogs. so, I became kinda iffy about it. what do you think?

      Genou Cha Try castor oil, specifically the Jamaican black castor oil. This will help your hair grow and it's low on the comedogenic scale so it won't clog pores.

    • @shidahb1641
      @shidahb1641 7 років тому

      Genou Cha yes, i agree, castor oil is known to help. However, you should consider the possibility that the issue is not in your hair and scalp, it could be due to internal nutrition. I was struggling to grow my hair because my hair folicles were clogged with toxins from inside. The first thing i did was I changed my shampoo and conditioner. I started using aloe products, I now use Forever's Aloe Jojoba Shampoo and conditioner. Secondly, I have started the C9 program by forever living. combined, my scalp feels exceptionally soft and my scalp feels fresh and clean. After only a few weeks I've already noticed growth.

    I never knew that coconut oil can clog your pores. I've been hearing so much positive things about it (and I have been using it since the beginning of my journey) so I was shocked to even hear this. One thing I can say that coconut oil didn't do for was hair growth. I've honestly been at a stand still moment with my hair for two years now and I don't know if it is my regimen or the things I'm using because it seems my hair isn't growing or if it is growing it probably is breaking off at the same time 😞😪. Maybe I'll cut off coconut oil to see if that is the problem. I'm willing to tweak my regimen to fit my hair needs.

    I used coconut oil because my scalp started getting psoriasis on it I've had this since I was a kid so I decided to try a hot coconut oil hair treatment. and immediately when I rinsed it out hand fulls of hair were coming out. it is currently 5 days later my her is still falling out not as much as the first 3 days but still quite severely. my scalp stings also I just don't want to go bald and I feel like I'm right around the corner of that if this doesn't stop. I have changed my conditioner because it had coconut right away and I'm still losing a ton of hair.

    I'm late to this, but I tried coconut oil as a hair mask a few months back to help strengthen my hair, lessen frizz and perhaps thicken it. However, after only one use the oil slightly damaged it; there were areas that became very coarse and they would break easily. It's good that I only left it in for a couple of hours. My hair is wavy and frizzy, and also a bit weird as I have different textures throughout it. Luckily though this problem wasn't due to an allergy because I can use coconut oil on my eyebrows and eyelashes. Anyway, I was looking into almond oil and thought about perhaps mixing it with a little coconut oil. Do you know anything about almond oil (or another oil) that would give similar effects as coconut oil, but without damaging my hair? Sorry for rambling; I have a tendency do so...lol! Thank you and take care. :)

    Hey girl! Lovely video :-) I have a question
    My hair is lately breaking off, i dont know what the hell is happening, and i have a feeling its cause i've "overused" coconut oil, i have low porosity, and my hair isnt the thickest/ type 3C, every time i use heavy or thick products my hair hates it, it takes long time before it sinks into my hair and i just feel like im shedding loads of hair, but when i use thin products it works better. so now im trying to see if the coconut oil is the problem, im going one month without, and the problem is that all my hair products has coconut innit :( do u have any suggestion of good lightweight styler/butter, shampoo and conditioner with no coconut oil?

      Thank you so much for your kind words. You are too kind.
      The best way to know if it is normal shedding (as @LivOlane is asking) or if it is from the C.O. would be to stop using the C.O. for a bit and see if the shedding continues or decreases. That will help you to figure it out quickly. I hope this helps you. :)

    What I don't understand is that coconut oil is used as natural product topically for severe acne. How is it that it can also clog pores? Thank you for sharing I just wanted some clarity on this

    • @AlopeciaFreeWithJass
      @AlopeciaFreeWithJass  8 років тому +1

      Hey Hun! Great question! I understand your concern and confusion.
      It might be based on peoples "skin" - dry, oily or "normal" .
      I guess the key word is that it can clogs "some" peoples pores. There are many natural products that work great for some people and they don't work at all for others.
      A great example would be that some people find that shea butter causes pimple/acne, but is has a 0 comedogenic rating. It works great as a moisturizer that is easily absorbed into the skin, but it doesn't work like this for some people. We are all different and not everything will work for everyone. I hope this helps you. Have a great day! xo

    HI...I'm new and you may have answered this question. What is a good daily maintenance regimen? My hair is thin and 4C. It's very soft (which is good - feels great and bad - doesn't hold styles long). Please share any suggestions. I've been using Shea Moisture products. Thanks so much. Another question... does hair have a length at which it wont exceed? I've been trying...following tips and tricks and my hair length just seems to remain the same. Thanks so much and God Bless you. Thanks for being so real.

      Hello Hun! Thank you for writing to me. Let me answer your questions:
      1) I will be making a regimen video soon. It will help you in more detail than I can write here.
      2) I believe that it can keep growing, long as long as it is healthy. I don't believe there is a limit if you take care of it.
      I hope this helps you. Have a great day! xo
