When they said their layer and file size improvements are also coming to Procreate, I was a little disappointed that we didn’t get Procreate updated along with/Dreams. Particularly because Procreate tends to always have a major update every year around October/November
this developer has been amazing at updating their apps over time. when original procreate came out i never dreamed (lol) i would mostly be using it to import and paint 3d models, so who knows what they’ll add to Dreams.
That would be so dope!!! Imagine importing 3d sets to Dreams for storyboarding, or even as background art!!!
WOT?!!!
actually the dev isnt really that great. There are still a lot of basic features still missing in procreate that people have been asking for years on end that are still not implemented today. Like group layer masks, group selection, group layer effects. Better selection tools, additive and subtractive layer selection.
So I dont really expect they will fix all the problems that dreams has. Especially now that the dev is split between 2 apps than just one now.
My biggest irritation with the program is that there's no select tool.
The lasso tool is a must have for me! I really hope they add it soon
Been using Dreams for about a week now. It is woefully unfinished. I think I'll put it on the backburner for now. Procreate itself is wonderful, so I will be optimistic about future updates.
THIS. THANK YOU
lacks features from normal procreate that I cant' live without. hopefully they will be added in future updates.
ill download it after a year, comparing it to my current animation app which is toonsquid its not better, only thing i love is the drag and drop from the OG app to dreams, so far its just my inconvenience file transfer from procreate to toonsquid but its not that hard
I'm just hoping they don't increase the price at the time, that's why I still have it on my iPad, but I hardly open it unless I want to try out a feature
Rotoscoping performance mode Is genius! I posted a video of my experience with dreams as well and Performance mode definitely is the most exciting feature in my opinion. Lovely video Josh :)
what's the name of the video? I looed through your channel and I couldn't find it.
@@loveArtnotFood “Procreate Dreams Process Walkthrough”
I've been having a bit of fun with the app so far.
Even with the problems and gripes (the obvious being the gestures and a few configs), the learning curve kills me a bit but I love and welcome challange and it does help when you have about 5 things in mind to animate so it's easier to tackle it.
i did n t know if its mentioned in comments, but you can drag layers from procreate to procreate dreams
I love Procreate and I finally bought Procreate Dreams. I do wish they were more specific with the limitations with older iPad Pro models. I knew my 2. generation Pro would struggle, but some of the shown things are impossible on my model.
Fantastic - very easy to follow your instructions. YES yes yes - more Procreate Dreams tutorials would be great!!! 🙏
Been waiting for this one 👍🏾
i tried dreams but was kinda disappointed how half baked the app felt at release- so i switched back to toonsquid. the drawing experience probably isnt as good as PD or proc but it has good features :] speaking of, ever intend on tryying out toonsquid ? :0
This might be the app that might get me try doing animation. Thanks f or this video!
great job on your youtube channel homie
i think it’ll be good after a couple of months, still bought it tho and still gonna use it. I like the timeline thing so much better then flipaclip
wonderful video ❤❤❤
The constant crashing is n issue for me. I managed to bang out a good animation I was happy with but I’d be dealing with crashing every 5 mins. I have an iPad Pro so didn’t think it would be an issue. Not being able to reorder layers seems pretty daft too.
I think maybe the each user is having different issues, at least from my perspective. Like your issue with the color not functioning properly, I don't have that problem at all :/ I AM however having an issue where if my onion skins on in Draw Mode I don't have my drawing color anymore, ONLY the onion skin colors.
Hey man, what iPad would you recommend to a beginner who wants to get into digital art/procreate?
I'll chime in just cuz, the iPad Air is a good middle ground. It's 10.9 inches, has a laminated screen, and it has the p3 color gambit display which gives your more visual color range. It's not quite as expensive as the PRO. You don't need pro-motion to draw (I usually use procreate in battery save mode so pro-motion is always turned off anyway). I have a Pro 12.9 (with M1). I got it for it's size only, but this preferencial, 10 and 11 in options are fine. Having used both the Pro and the Air, I'd say, the experience is the same.
The base iPad is great, but it doens't have the P3 Color Gambit display, nor is the screen laminated; which means there's a noticeable separation between the surface and the display screen. This difference is otherwise irrelevant for most iPad uses, but when you are drawing or writing you can see the distance between the Apple Pencil tip and the where the line is on the screen. It's purely a cosmetic thing, and I'm sure you can get used to it. But it's something to consider. The iPad Mini, in my opinion is too small, but many people enjoy that because it's great as a mobile sketchbook (it does have the P3 display as well as a laminated screen).
My biggest advise would be something with more storage, if you want to do video editing or animate large files, then you'll need more space. I've come to regret my 128 storage limit lol. Bigger storage is more affordable with a cheaper iPad.
My advise is the Air for a beginner; it's got many elements artists find useful but can be used for much more than art. If you can find one, an Air 4 (ebay or a certified refurb with a return policy), you can save more money and still have a powerful iPad. The Air 4 was the first iPad Air to sport the iPad Pro design and is Apple Pencil 2 compatible. Procreate has updated their app so all iPads get a really decent number of layers for high rez canvases, you can check the stats online, but you'd have plenty with any of them. Plus it's a device that's great for a beginner but it can also grow with you as you become more experienced.
Sorry if my advise was unsolicited but I hope this helps ya a bit. Have a great end of the year!
Thanks for the reply, I was thinking about just getting the refurbished iPad Pro 11inch 4th gen due to the M1 chip but also debating about the Air since it is a tad cheaper@@kozzietea
Hey Josh, ask me a question.
Does the Apple 2 pen not have the hover feature?
only the Apple USB-C pen? But this pen doesn't have pressure sensitivity, right?
I think it's really bad, painting without pressure sensitivity. Do you think it's worth exchanging the hover feature for sensitivity?
Apple pen 2 should support hover - definitely dont sacrifice pressure sensitivity

😂 I have dreams but I’ve seldom used it bc the things it lacked. It’s gotten better though but this video was hilarious to me bc I kept thinking at times, is he doing an accent? I do that all the time when talking to myself or even thinking to myself.. I like attempting British and Scottish accents a lot 😂 I’m actually glad I’m not the only one.
Does anyone know how to use copy and paste in flip book mode? The paste button doesn’t show up on the flip book widget also I can’t get the perfect quick shape tool to work
i was waiting
Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! Humming Christmas music NoOoOoOoOooooo
There seems to be a few too many issues with this app right now. They're not big issues, but they look like they'd get old pretty fast. I think I'll wait a little longer before buying this. Thanks for the video.
What tip is that you are using on your Apple Pencil
are you using the apple pencil the black looks different
I see that your pencil tip is different. I got myself some metal tips, even those wear off on the matte skin protector. Now I’m thinking it is probably better to switch back to plain glass to save on this hassle. Screw the need for friction. It’s a problem enough that I’ve started sketching with real pencils again.
How many times have you two-finger-tapped on the paper? 😉😅
Hello, can you answer me?..Wacom vs Ipad M2, which one should I choose?
iPad is superior and multifunctional
May I ask, what tip do you use for your pencil? Do they actually have variants???
im testing out a few on amazon. idk about the black one I have, it came with two and one of them didn’t work well at all. it kept skipping.
Thanks! @@ergojosh I like your channel! Keep it up!
Can you give an update on your opinion. I wanna know if gripes you had were improved upon
I haven't had time to get back to it, but there were issues that were resolved since the first update they posted after this video. I'll let you know when I get back into animating!
Oh, and they wrote me on my complaining email that there will be no liquify tool in Dreams because of the 1 million pixel size. Who the hell needs 1 million pixel size canvas btw??
by 1 mill pixels, I think they simply mean that the canvas can handle that much information. so for example, the maximum canvas size is 3840x3840. but you can draw wayyyy outside of that. but to your point I dont see that as an explanation for why theres no liquify tool unless they mean “weve already maxed out the processing power with other priority features” Thats what I interpret that as.
@@ergojosh Ahh, okay.
I’m typing this in real time for the black marks the red underneath if you were doing onion skin could effect. I don’t know if you were using onion skin but anyway. I’ve been watching you for a while I’m an animator.
ahhh that makes sense!
wowowowwo halt right there...what's that pencil fine nib????
hahah ill talk more about them soon, gotta make sure its not trash
🎉🎉
Do you still have CSP brushes?
yep!
God I just wish the UI didn't take half the goddamn screen, and when in flipnote I wish I could make it even smaller. Like why not give me those quality of life features if you're going to take up more space then clip studio paint on Ipad?!
As of 12/01 another update v 1.0.5.
5 since 11/22/2023
I just released my first short 2d animation using Procreate Dreams
I hope you like it
Leaving youtube video coming soon?
lmao naw I left first without making a video. Im ahead of the trend 😎
😊best answer man, bless@@ergojosh
Heyyy...Never been first to comment on a yt video😂..
حسيت انه بينزل
From what?
If you meant harsh comments, i agree. Especially so if he did not present all the gestures and use of keyframes.
@@dplj4428 🙆🏽♀️ no it’s not a harsh comment
First view !!!
More like Mid-Create Dreams 🥱🤣
You gotta be a hater to your bone to say this like... Damn
@@abhayshenoy8556 C'mon dude. It's an app with drawing capabilities that doesn't have a lasso tool and doesn't let you do anything with layers.
@@abhayshenoy8556nah, got it day one, was hyped for it since it came out. It's got a long way to go to compete with something like toonsquid. You can't even create reference layers for coloring. And it doesn't have a bucket fill tool when one of its main purposes is frame by frame. Really slows down the process. And theres plenty more missing essential features. Hopefully they update it, but right now, it's definitely mid. Especially compared to toonsquid at half the price
Nah I was expecting it to be atleast a replacement for a standard animation app, sadly it’s missing lots of basic features & options hence mid, cuz they hyped it too be more thdd as n it actually is@@abhayshenoy8556
Hyped it More than it actually is*
The consistent design was something Apple did very well. Now even they can't keep up with it somehow. I thought Procreate would be one of such companies. Cutting corners to make the most money and spending the least amount of effort has become the norm now. These days design philosophy and consistency should be the top two aspects of designing anything. But nope!
Tf are you even talking about?
From all the reviews I've read, procreate dreams is terrible. It's missing a bunch of features
Since Nov 22 a 4th update. today it is v 1.0.5 on App store, automatic keyframe creation, and some stabilities
It’s FAR from terrible. Especially at the price point. Savage Team (who make Procreate) are good at making big updates so we have pretty high confidence they will improve it in the near future.
It is definitely a disappointing launch though. It needed more development before release. On the other hand, most apps charge a subscription and Dreams is a one-time payment and supported.
People are giving me flak about this in the User Groups, but don't you think it's a pretty glaring issue that none of the awesome drawing tools from Procreate are inside of Dreams??? For example - at 30:18, you are loosely drawing curves and ellipses - what if you want them razor sharp??? I know , I know "learn to draw better" - but for most of us mere mortals we rely heavily on the auto lines and auto ellipse tools to make our work crisp and neat, not to mention the selection tools (I mean these tools ARE the some of the defining tools of Procreate, no?). None of that is in Dreams. Or am I missing something here???
