Hey Robin, Cari hier! Ich habe eine Frage für dich: Was denkst du eigentlich über Design? Welchen Einfluss hat Design auf dein tägliches Leben? Und welche Rolle spielt Design für dich in der Welt? Ich freue mich auf deine Antwort. :) Really loved this video! Greetings from the whole Easy German team! 😃
Maneul, great to see your comment. Wow, same coffee grinder! You must be quite passionate about coffee, too then? I think we'd get along well, too! I'm actually moving back to Europe in the new year, so I'll be much closer and it would be great to hang out with you all sometime ☕️
The summary of this video : 1. Listen to the episode once all the way through: • Don’t focus on details and individual words, and try just to get the main idea of the podcast. • It’s not a problem if you miss some words. • If you can’t understand anything from the podcast, then you should definitely look for something easier that suits your language level. 2. Get transcript or transcribe it yourself. • It’s recommended to experiment both options, in order to diversify. • If you are a newbie and you look for something easy, getting the transcript is a great way to get started and it’s going to be much faster. • If you are intermediate/upper-intermediate, and you don’t care about the task difficulty and how much time the process will take, or just the transcript isn’t available, then you can transcribe it yourself. Transcribing the podcast will deeply boost your comprehension, but in this case, you need somebody to verify the transcript after you. • You should take note of every word, idiom, cultural references that seem to be interesting for you. You either write them down on a copybook or in some apps like Notion 3. Re-listen to the episode multiple times over time. • It makes you able to understand the whole vocabulary used in the podcast and to get familiar with it, which will gave you such a gratifying feeling. • It’s a good activity to fill a dead time 4. Activities! choose one or several options. (put phrases in Anki, self-interview, role-play in the podcast, etc.) • It’s done in parallel with step 3 with a slight delay. • You can incorporate your favorite vocabulary into flashcards (e.g Anki) • You can use podcast interview method, which consist in taking one of the conversation roles, and to speak for it, then practice being part of the conversation. • If you are a group of persons, you can turn it into a dialogue and practice it with each other. • You can just summarize the podcast and give the summary to your learning partners. 5. Shadowing from mimicking the words to eventually emotion, rhythm, & intonation (when you get familiar with the material) P.S: I'm an English learner, I hope that my writing is correct
Unfortunately the podcasts I'm most interested in are definitely above my level, but every time I re-listen I capture additional vocab and those AHA! moments are very motivating. Good job with this presentation! Looking forward to the Shadowing discussion since I`m a fan of that method too
Damn this is such a smart plan. I always had the "problem" that I ran out of good podcast content. But actually I should save the best ones for a (dead time) play list, so my brain remembers the sentences thoroughly and therefore these will be standby whenever the right situation occurs in a conversation. So simple but smart, many thanks!
I LOVE learning with podcasts, I truly believe it's what helped me get the Spanish level I have now. It's so fun and accomplishing to understand a native podcast. You also learn new things. I recommend them to everyone
@@gilmarvianna8536 idk if you ask me but i'm gonna respond you, as i know you should use the podcast you like most, so if you like 4 or 5 different podcast listen to them! but you have to be conscious is better to listen those podcast (or media as videos/series etc) which are easier to you to understand (comprehensible input)
This method strongly reminds me of A.G. Hoge “effortless English” method. Main points are the same: listen multiple times, answer questions from the podcast, goal is to understand everything. This method boosted my spoken English, it’s true.
Learning a language is living it! I speak fluent German and Italian I find your method very helpful for me to refresh my German because I live in Italy and don't use it very often
Without a doubt podcasts are one of the most powerful tools, especially for passive learning. I use one called Chinese pod and it's great! Now I'm starting to put it to good use in my videos
I will try Chinese pod. Thanks for the recommendation. I am learning Chinese too and was looking for ways to improve my listening. How is Chinese for you?
I am so excited because I've wanted to learn languages for so long without really knowing the way to go - I went through babbel lesson for swedish and spanish, and started hungarian and persian courses - but I always felt like I was lacking some kind of method and that my learning was partial so I stopped because of frustration. I also took german classes in high school but could never maintain it, even though my level must have been close to B1 at least. The only language I was able to improve over time is english because I have been using it around native speakers and then kept reading, watching sows and integrating (but again, I had the problem of highlighting a lot of phrases but never creating a proper database). All your videos provide such a comprehensive and solid method that I feel like I'm now much better equipped to always know what I should do next to take it the the next level while maintaining what I know already. So grateful Robin, thank you so much!
Yup I use Easy German to help me with my simultaneous interpretation skills of German into English. Then also they are one of the best options for people learning a language all the way though a working intermediate level. On the other hand learning to improve dialectal forms of the German Language requires other strategies. Those though are in abundance on You Tube. Yup I liked hearing you have that discourse with the people of Easy German yesterday. Well done by all of the participants.

An alternative to shadowing is what I tried to do in the past: watch films I'd seen many times and say the actors' lines with the same tone of voice, emotion ecc. I used to do a lot of reading books out loud for accent practice, then I wanted to try something new, so that's how I started with the film idea.

Your videos have really helped me with my language learning: Czech! 🇨🇿 I've started listening to Podcasts this week. I was afraid about this method, well I'm still afraid... I've found many interesting podcasts and I've decided to improve my English by listening to podcasts. I've been studying English for over 6 months and I'm gonna finish my course so, I'll spend all my time with "input". I just finished an episode of my favorite podcasts but... I can't put up 10 minutes, I have to take breaks every 10/15 minutes. My fatigue mental makes me feel as I was studying the whole. Thank you so much, I'm gonna use this video as my guide to learn by listening to podcasts.
As per my interests. In my case, I love listening to horror stories, how to learn languages (cuz, I'm interesting in another language), culture... You can find any topic on Google podcasts 😊
Thank you so much for guiding us through this journey of Language learning. I've been learning German by myself for a year now and your vidoes helped me a lot.
Super! What podcasts are you listening to? Maybe you know some german podcasts with transcript, besides Easy german? I want to try podcast-method as well? And you far you are in German with self-learning?
@@LookingForInspiration_TS I'm currently on Level A2 . As Robin suggested in one of his video, I've created a sort of bubble around me to immerse myself in the language. I watched TV shows like Dark with subtitles ofc, I listen to podcasts by DW,Easy German. I also listen to music with lyrics on Spotify, btw Bushido and Annenmaykanteriat are my favourites. Please suggest me more artists if you know any.
Thanks Robin! Thanks for your tips, you help me (or us) a lot! I like your positivity and actitud when you talk about something, interesting. I'm learning english so, i can listen to you to practice, too. You inspire!
It's nice to find someone not pushing people to use podcasts when they don't have the right level!! I am just starting to reach that level, I do well with some podcasts and horrible with others. I finally stopped listening to people telling me what I should listen to! Your advice is much more sound than many other people.
Hi Robin, Thank you so much for sharing your views. They definitely confirm, and expand much further my experience using native podcasts and trying to get the most out of them. I'll try to spend more time listening to the same podcast several times, and your idea of including yourself in the podcast so you can practice listening and practice is just brilliant ! I've been interested in language learning for a while, but your videos are clearly among the most enlightening and helpful ones (such as your book on 'How to maintain languages', of course ) Thank you ! Patrice
You are on an absolute roll with the movies at the moment! It's like every video you realise comes at precisely the right time! Massively appreciate it :) P.S. There are loads you can find on UA-cam with closed captions. Even if they're auto generated, they're better than nothing!
ROBIN!! You have a trove of incredible language learning tips. I cannot thank you enough for sharing them with us! 🙏 I know you're focusing more on German right now, but I would love to see some more videos on Spanish too! Thanks. Hugs from Pakistan 🇵🇰
I listen to many podcasts at all different levels and i understand 95% of all conversations but my issue is that when it come to speaking or writing i dont use any or forgot them. Please do a video on shadowing. I love all your videos. Million thank you
You are giving incredible knowledge about language learning. I am learning many things from your videos. So I appreciate your credibility.thanks🌹, love you bro.
Wunderbar! Tolle Ideen ! Danke! I recently became a Patreon for Easy German podcast myself and it is indeed an excellent way to learn like you say !! by the way you drinking kaffee while ironing is so like me hahaha Sehr lustig
Hey Robin, thanks for all the valuable tips you provide in each and every video, personally I truly benefited a lot from your detailed content. May I ask you if you could please share with us what's your exact process to internalize those phrases? How many times you go through them? Is there a routine that we can all follow to move those phrases to our long term memory?
I am basically already doing a lot of this but I use google translate as my phrase capture tool when analyzing the text. As I am going through the material I grab what I want on the computer screen then dump it into google translate. That of course instantly provides a translation then I hit the phrasebook button. I like using that because it is just a quick one button push to capture what I want then I can focus on reading again quickly. After I accumulate enough in the phrasebook, I export it to a spreadsheet then feed that sheet into Anki. The problem is that I do not spend enough time reviewing the cards in my various Anki decks. Drilling with flashcards is not the most interesting activity but I know that it will really help my retention and I certainly need that.
Thanks for the insight, Robin! I'm currently listening to DuoLingo's French podcast. It's perfect for my current level: a challenge, but not so advanced that can't follow it.
Gracias por el tutorial...! have a good thursday! ayer en mi ciudad hubo un corte eléctrico y me perdí el estreno ( en mi pais eso está pasando mucho por cierto) y bueno... big hugs! ,,
Cool, I had some structure of this doing LingQ but good to know what you've added to it. I knew about shadowing, but interesting you suggest shadowing multiple times to add on emotion, rhythm and intonation. Can't wait to see that video!
Hola Robin gusto saludarte, recientemente te encontre en you tobe y realmente me identifico con tu historia en relacion a lo renuente de aprender otra lengua. Soy venezolana y ahora de adulta quiero aprender ingles como segunda lengua.
Hello Robin, great video ! I was already doing some aspects that you spoke about , but highlighting repeated words was great to pick up on . I love highlighter pens and I think the person who invented them should have got the Nobel prize ! ...by the way, I use different colours for verb endings , then they stick out like a sore thumb !
Another great video!! I also listen to the Easy German podcast but at this point I’m only able to have short bursts of knowing what’s going on then I’m lost again for a minute 😂. I am however pretty sure I’m at the level I can try this method with Korean and Mandarin so I’ll give it a go this weekend! Thanks 🙏
It's almost the same method I use. But I don't focus on shadowing method, I think your method is better than mine 😁👍. Ty for sharing it with us. If I had money I would do a donation to you 😆
Cool 😀 I just decided to start learning german last month, but I have no one to speak with. I’ve never studied german actively, I never took classes at school or anything, but I’ve oicked up some words here and there over the years. I have to admit I have a massive advantage knowing both english and swedish fluently, but I started listening to the german podcast just recently and was surprised by how much I already understand. I had only been ”studying” for a couple of days or so by then. I pick up more and more and notice that I get better at understanding what they are talking about the more episodes I listen to. There are some details that confuse me though… And I try to form my own sentences in my head but I can barely form one whole sentence when I try. I hope that by the end of this year I will be considerably better though 😀 Easy german is very helpful 😀
while learning german, speaking is one of the last things you shouuld do. You should never push it. I suggest you to absorb as much as you can first. It is a hard and complex language to understand. When you get better at understanding and built enough grammar and vocabulary, then you can start speaking in a way that makes sense. Otherwise it always stays at a limited level. (Of course you should try to speak but I know that it ruins the motivation to start with speaking when it comes to german because the syntax is really complex)
@@bettlovesshrek2026 I've noticed it's difficult. I have tried recording myself speaking but been to embarrased to publish it, even though I understand almost everything I hear on german podcasts/news nowadays.

Hi Robin, I would like to make an interview with you in my youtube channel. Have you an email or something? Best Regards!
I just don't why I can understand you almost perfectly well (~99%) without any subtitle, even at the 1.5 speed, even when I'm not paying 100% attention (I'm browsing some groceries in another page at the same time). But still, I just can't get over 90% comprehension when watching movies in English at a normal speed.
Hola Robin Me gustó mucho tu método. Aprendí francés y acabo de Comenzar a aprender inglés. Nunca he trabajado con podcasts. Soy profe de ciencias. He buscado en la web, pero estoy un poco perdida...Puedes aconsejarme algunos sitios dónde pueda encontrar podcasts en inglés americano? Gracias!
Thanks for the detailed explanation. The thing I do not understand when you start a new language, do you study grammar or some vocabulary at some basic level? Otherwise, it must be difficult to listen to something even if it is easy level. Did I miss something?
Thank you for the video. Please could you suggest to me podcasts to learn English, my level is between intermediate and upper-intermediate, I have found so many podcasts on Deezer, but I don't have the time to try them all. Now, I'm using a podcast named real English conversation, which provides transcript but only for old episodes :(
Hi ,I would like to inquire about the type of foreign language using podcasts. I don't really understand how to use them to make them work. I don't understand if you use one episode all week or a new episode every day? I am a bit confused about how many episodes you listen to per day, could you give me a hint on how and effectively to use episodes from podcasts? I mean, do you listen to a new episode every day or listen to one episode for one week?
step 1: Listen to the episode once all the way through
step 2: Get transcript or transcribe it yourself
step 3: Re-listen to the episode multiple times over time
step 4: Activities! choose one or several options. (put phrases in Anki, self-interview, role-play in the podcast, etc.)
step 5: Shadowing from mimicking the words to eventually emotion, rhythm, & intonation
Thank you
Great tips.

Who else from Easy German
I love this content, so inspiring, am really grateful for it Robin!
Which podcast are u listening to improve ur english?
As per my interests. In my case, I love listening to horror stories, how to learn languages (cuz, I'm interesting in another language), culture...
You can find any topic on Google podcasts 😊
Sehr hilfreich für alle, die selbst lernen möchten. Danke sehr
This is great, I like this method, the way you process the text, sounds, everything.
Thank you so much, I'm glad I found your channel
Very good tips! I love German and believe your method is great!
My week with languages was productive.

Thanks Robin! Thanks for your tips, you help me (or us) a lot! I like your positivity and actitud when you talk about something, interesting. I'm learning english so, i can listen to you to practice, too. You inspire!
@CoolCow cool
I admire your enthusiam and how well you transmit it. In german I listen HINTERGRUND and the transcrips are available.
Ich glaube, easy German wäre besser für dich Eva
It's nice to find someone not pushing people to use podcasts when they don't have the right level!! I am just starting to reach that level, I do well with some podcasts and horrible with others. I finally stopped listening to people telling me what I should listen to! Your advice is much more sound than many other people.
Hi Robin,
Thank you so much for sharing your views. They definitely confirm, and expand much further my experience using native podcasts and trying to get the most out of them.
I'll try to spend more time listening to the same podcast several times, and your idea of including yourself in the podcast so you can practice listening and practice is just brilliant !
I've been interested in language learning for a while, but your videos are clearly among the most enlightening and helpful ones (such as your book on 'How to maintain languages', of course )
Thank you !
Patrice
I looove 'Easy Languages' videos and your Channel more and more.
Where are you from Teresita?
@@leonmiguel5926 I am from Puerto Rico.

You are on an absolute roll with the movies at the moment! It's like every video you realise comes at precisely the right time! Massively appreciate it :)
P.S. There are loads you can find on UA-cam with closed captions. Even if they're auto generated, they're better than nothing!
I'm very excited to learn German this year! yeay! ♥
You are awesome, glad to find your channel. You are really doing a great job.
ROBIN!! You have a trove of incredible language learning tips. I cannot thank you enough for sharing them with us! 🙏
I know you're focusing more on German right now, but I would love to see some more videos on Spanish too! Thanks. Hugs from Pakistan 🇵🇰
I adore the way you speak German.! your tips have been really useful.
I'm currently studying English and I recently detect your channel and I wish if knew it before 💕 thank you so much
Hello Robin, hello All in this channel,
This episode is really good advice. Thank you for sharing.
Love it! Very usefull tutorial. Thanks for sharing your methods.
Wunderbar! Tolle Ideen ! Danke! I recently became a Patreon for Easy German podcast myself and it is indeed an excellent way to learn like you say !! by the way you drinking kaffee while ironing is so like me hahaha Sehr lustig
Highly inspirational!
Thanks so much for your suggestions.
The secret of learning a language is to always have a cup of coffee near by 😃
What kind of coffee/espresso machine is in 11:05 if you don’t mind me asking?
Hey Robin, thanks for all the valuable tips you provide in each and every video, personally I truly benefited a lot from your detailed content. May I ask you if you could please share with us what's your exact process to internalize those phrases? How many times you go through them? Is there a routine that we can all follow to move those phrases to our long term memory?
Lol @ you drinking coffee even while doing the chores 😂
It's perfect for my current level: a challenge, but not so advanced that can't follow it.
if you allow me to ask you, are you learning French for study, work or for travel F.E.?
@@leonmiguel5926 For now, I'm learning it to prove to myself that I can do it. :-)
@@jennifermckeithen1498 you can do definitely
je suis confident que tu peux le faire :)
@@leonmiguel5926 merci ! 😁
I love this!!! Ingenious! I wonder if there is an equivalent Easy German for French
I'm so glad you loved it! Yes there is actually a whole UA-cam channel for Easy French and it's excellent 😄
Waiting for the Shadowing tutorial! :)
I would love to hear about your shadowing method!
i would like yo heard too about the shadowing method
Thank you for the tips robin God bless you
Thank you so much for these incredible tips! 😊
Gracias por el tutorial...! have a good thursday! ayer en mi ciudad hubo un corte eléctrico y me perdí el estreno ( en mi pais eso está pasando mucho por cierto) y bueno... big hugs! ,,
The secret is your memory. When you are listening all these structures, forms and new words, you are keeping them in your memory.
Hi Robin , I'm waiting for your shadowing video. just a reminder :D
I am at a new year and new levels. I am at the conversational level in several levels.
Thank you for sharing this. It will help me a lot 👍👍👍
Hello Robin, great video ! I was already doing some aspects that you spoke about , but highlighting repeated words was great to pick up on . I love highlighter pens and I think the person who invented them should have got the Nobel prize ! ...by the way, I use different colours for verb endings , then they stick out like a sore thumb !
podcasts are my favourite method for learning mandarin Chinese!
I will try this now. Thank you :)
Great stuff! Thanks for sharing!
Hey Robin, thanks for the video, I found it very helpful. :) Let me ask you, what application did you use at 8:42 ? Thanks for your answer in advance!
Danke Robin! Ich habe die von Easy German kennengelernt!
Thanks 🙏
You totally deserve the thumbs up, you brought the coffee again☕👍🏼😊
Your tips are great! I look forward to test this one. Thank you so much =)
For English lerner I would recommend Culips podcasts. It is suitable for b1 level too :).
It's almost the same method I use. But I don't focus on shadowing method, I think your method is better than mine 😁👍. Ty for sharing it with us. If I had money I would do a donation to you 😆
I love Easy German! I wish I could find an equivalent for Cherokee to supplement my official certificate course from the National language office.
Das stimmt, der Podcast ist ganz gut, man lernt viel, warum lernst du Deutsch, hast du damit was vor?
Awesome work! It's so cool to hear about people learning Indigeneous languages!
First. Thank you. Really great information!
Hello Robin thank you very much you are great but how can I get friends to communicate in english to make mu self fluent speaker and to learn french?
Hey Martín! I’d love to join you on your channel for an interview. Please feel free to email me at hello@robinmacpherson.co
Looking forward to it! :)
I came here from the Easy German video about talking to yourself!!
Here from the EasyGerman fan club!!!
Hola Robin
Me gustó mucho tu método. Aprendí francés y acabo de Comenzar a aprender inglés. Nunca he trabajado con podcasts.
Soy profe de ciencias. He buscado en la web, pero estoy un poco perdida...Puedes aconsejarme algunos sitios dónde pueda encontrar podcasts en inglés americano? Gracias!
Would you mind sharing the 10 Easy German podcast episodes you used? Thanks for the video I am going to use this very clever method very soon!
Thank you for the content🙌
Easy German brings me here!
Btw it is impossible dont take a couple of coffee after watched this video.
Thanks for the detailed explanation. The thing I do not understand when you start a new language, do you study grammar or some vocabulary at some basic level? Otherwise, it must be difficult to listen to something even if it is easy level. Did I miss something?
Thank you very much !
