I can relate to so much in this video, from the Reverse Culture Shock of coming home, to the strange phenomena of doing your best work when you’re actually really busy with other things. I hope you find what you’re looking for back in San Francisco!
So good to hear from you, Olly. I can definitely imagine you’ve had many of these experiences. Thanks for watching, mate, it’s been great to see your continued success while I’ve been away!
Congratulations! And welcome back to the Bay Area-so happy you’re back! I missed your language learning content, your positive energy, and your candor when things go wrong. Thank you for sharing your challenges with so much authenticity.
Thanks so much for this warm comment @francefy! I always try and hope to put positive energy out into the world while always being candid about the good and the bad in a way that is authentic and relatable to people - but it's always hard to know how things get perceived. So it's really heart-warming to read that you get these things from my content. This kind of feedback helps me to just continue being myself and to trust that my intentions will be felt.
Congrats on the job at Google! And it's great to have you back! You're 100% right about failure and success. As Dan Povenmire (co-creator of the show _Phineas and Ferb_ and voice of Dr. Doofensmirtz) put it, it's not a failure, it's a setback, and it's part of the process to success. All you have to do is trust the process. This video actually came at a good time, where I was feeling down about my own creative endeavors seeming coming to a crawl, but you got me to reflect on what I actually did accomplish and how far I've come. I've been watching your content since you did that 30 day video challenge, and I'll be sure to keep watching from here on. Welcome back, man.
Heyyyy Kirby, it's so good to see you again! Thank you for the warm comment and congratulations - it's SO good to be back! ✨ Honestly, I think one of the simplest principles that helps me most in life is to "trust the process". It's amazing how simple, practical, and reasonable it is, and how much pressure it takes off our shoulders when we embrace it. It's so nice to read that this video made you reflect on how far you've come with your own creative endeavors! Along with trusting the process, I think it's so important to allow ourselves those moments to reflect and simply give ourselves credit for how far we've come and how much we've grown along the way. Keep going, I'm sure you've come even farther than you might give yourself credit for 💪🏼
To "look back and see: We didn't fail at all" is one of the deepest conclusions I have ever heard of, thank you for this - it will greatly motivate me in future.
We missed you so much! Congratulations on getting the job and I'm so happy for you. I can see in your face how you're excited about your new chapter of your life. All the best wishes!
It's so good to see you @lary_go! Thank you for the wonderful comment and congratulatory wishes, it makes me really really happy to see these heart-warming comments. I hope you are well and look forward to sharing more videos!
I really appreciate that you chose to share your journey with us. Thank you, truly. It helps to see that we're all going through things and sometimes you have to get past a rough patch. I look forward to seeing more of what you are up to. Congratulations! You deserve it
Thanks so much for your heartfelt comment, Tiffany! I was quite nervous about sharing this story, especially while writing the script and trying to figure out how to tell it, what to share or not share, worrying about how it would be perceived and so on. So it's really encouraging to read this feedback and see it was all totally worthwhile and positive!
We missed you so much, I had asked myself multiple times what happened with you and now I'm so glad you're back (y) . I can't wait for your language learning videos
Thanks so much for your patience and for caring about what had happened to me, Vanio! I'm really happy to be back now and hope you'll love the new videos
I’m not crying you’re crying! 😭😭This is so beautiful, Robin. And what a lesson in life! That sometimes our perceived failures are actually pathways to unexpected things that give us even greater joy. Another indicator that we don’t always know what is actually best for us, but it’s the daring to try any way where we make all our discoveries. So happy for you, Robin. Congratulations!
Aw thanks so much for this warm and heartfelt comment, Julia! I’m so so happy that you found this to be beautiful 🥺❤️ I think you’re totally right about how it’s the being brave and daring enough to just try that often shows us the way. Sometimes that ends up being what we thought, oftentimes it isn’t, but as long as we’re always trying our best I feel we will find our way. The not knowing is one of the great spices of life ✨ thank you again for the support!
Heyyy Carol, it's so good to see you in the comments again! Your fingers were pretty fast and it made me so happy to see the notification. I've really missed being here, and it means a lot to be told that I was missed too. Thanks so much for your support!

So thrilled for you! I have missed your positivity and helpfulness. Wishing you great joy! Congrats for realizing the final message decades younger than I did.
Welcome back! I’m so glad to hear you are doing well. Although I have to tell you, multiple times over the months I had a worrying thought that you were in real trouble, sleeping under a bridge or dead or something…I even admit to Googling a couple different things to make sure there were no obituaries for you out there somewhere. Setting boundaries and protecting personal space and getting time away from the online crowds is often necessary, but maybe saying so publicly would have helped allay some worry from your fans. Just a thought to consider for next time! Anyway, congrats on the job and personal developments, this is a much better outcome than my overactive imagination was drumming up. ; )
Hi @J. Kos! Thanks so much for this comment and for your concerns about my well-being these past months. I have to say, I did leave a lot out of this video and at times I did feel in quite a lot of trouble or unsure if I'd end up sleeping outside again - thankfully this time things ended up much better and I don't ever want to have those thoughts, worries, or anxieties ever again. I'm sorry that I had you worried and didn't make a more public statement about my time away sooner. I guess at the time all this was happening, on one hand it was such an intense period emotionally I honestly didn't know what to say. On the other hand, I also didn't know that it would last as long as it did - in the beginning I thought maybe this will last a month or two; then at one point about 2.5 months in it seemed like it was all over, but then it wasn't. Finally, perhaps the biggest mistake on my part was wanting to make something beautiful for everyone and not wanting to just put any old thing out there - but it could have been better to simply post something so that people wouldn't worry. Once again, thank you for your support. As I mentioned in the video, I've always felt this way, but it's been so, so heart-warming to see the supportive comments pouring in and that the connections we make on these platforms can be so genuine and people really do care for each other.
Your video feels like catching up with a dear friend I haven’t seen for a while. Which is true. Amazing how you can make us all feel like dear friends. Wishing you the best with your new job. Google will be a better company for having hired you. And we are all better people having known you. Looking forward to our next chat!
I'm a little late, but congratulations on landing the job at Google!!! That's so exciting!!!! Also, thank you for making this video. It's so easy to look at how things aren't going as planned and feel like a failure, when, you're right, often we are succeeding (or building towards other opportunities and dreams) that we can't see in the moment. It's a great reminder that life often takes us in unexpected places and that the journey is worth the hardship, even if it doesn't seem like it at the time.
You're a modern day hero, Robin. You're the reason why I decided to become a programmer after a completely different career. Congrats! You totally deserve it. I look forward to your new content. We've missed you. That's for sure.

Your experience makes me think of language learning: trying to learn so many languages but never going very far, finally leads to determining the language that really suits you :)
Super!
welcome back Robin! i discovered this channel during your time away from youtube and it's been a wonderful motivation in my studies, been eagerly anticipating your return :)
Hii @mellow! I'm so glad you found my channel during my time away and that it's had a positive impact on your studies and motivation! I'm just feeling sooo so motivated to make lots more content like that. Thanks so much for your support!
I love how honest, raw and artistic this video is. Congratulations Robin! Content creation journey is never easy. Thank you for sharing your stories. It's very inspirational! Please keep going! :)
Thanks so much for this comment, @just Henri! I'm really happy that "honest, raw and artistic" are qualities that you felt in the video. Can't wait to share more and I wish you the very best with your content creation journey, too!
I am so happy for you getting a job with google, a dream of yours. You have encouraged so many of us to study languages and I always love your coffee introduction!
You’re making a good point. We are responsible for where we are. We let go of everything and everyone eventually. The end of projects, careers, a relationship, an illusion…all these become the fertilizer and the foundation for the next chapter in our life despite our unawareness and disagreeability with the end of something that’s supposed to end. Autumn marks the death of leaves which we call so beautiful in their colors. This death makes the following Spring’s leaves possible as the breakdown of fallen leaves nourish the tree. All things are supposed to end which makes this moment and our life so important. To die is not a problem, but to have lived in a manner that reflects that we surely will die is to squander life. It’s a great story.
Hello Robin! And hello to all who are reading this comment. Another Robyne here. Robin, I can relate to your words and your story. My life started to change in 2015 and continued to change so much that in 2021 ( not bad changes) just the normal, job, relationship etc.) Then, I sold 99 percent of my things( gazillion x10) plus my home and moved to Ecuador. Yeah that happened! And for a person who is a wannabe minimalist and lover of things, it was challenging to say the least. But, I wanted to live in a spanish speaking country forever... BUT those possessions I loved were holding me back from making that desire come true. I lived in Japan many years before, so I knew that I could make a big move, I just hadn't made it happen. And so, you're story resonated. "The aspects of life life whatever that is" ...thank you. I am curious as to what you will be doing for Google. And congratulations on that accomplishment, for I heard that it's quite hard to become one of their teammates. I also heard that Google is an amazing employer, which is wonderful energy to work with and in. Looking forward to more updates on your journey. Ciao
I felt so so so much bad after seeing this video, as my age is only 18 I only recommend you to be strong more then strong be hard... ALL THE BEST FOR ALL and I love your videos I get inspired by watching your videos THANK YOU ROBIN SIR

Super!

Me too me too! 🥳 Thank you Carmen!
I love you so much too and so glad for you. Congratulations!! Welcome back.
Congratulations!!! Loved the video, and it is very true what you say, sometimes we need time to reflect on our life and go easy on ourselves
