- These are the final moments and words of broadcaster Tim Gough, a local radio presenter who died at the age of 55 on air from his home in Suffolk on 24 October 2022.
The radio station released the following statement:
Tim passed away at 7:50am from a suspected heart attack while presenting his popular breakfast show on GenX Radio Suffolk.
Tim was a hugely experienced and highly talented broadcaster with an army of fans for his daily show. He is a very sad loss to radio and the county of Suffolk.
The entire GenX Radio family are shocked and devastated beyond words.
James Hazell, Managing Director of GenX Radio Suffolk says; “Tim has been on the radio since the
80s and had come out of radio retirement to fully involve himself in our project from the beginning,
to bring local commercial radio back to his beloved Suffolk and was hugely excited for our DAB
launch at the end of the month.
To know Tim personally, as I did very closely for over 30 years, was to know a warm, caring, fun guy
who myself and my family loved dearly. We are heart broken by the news.
I know his family are enormously comforted by the hundreds of loving messages that have been
received and have asked for privacy at this devastating time”.
Details of a funeral service are not yet known.
Comments are limited out of respect for the family.
FAQ:
Why did the audio cut out?
He was broadcasting from his home studio (seen here: • Starting a pro Radio S... . The waveform is consistent with the song being muted or paused in software. It is likely he leant on the keyboard.
Some lovely comments here, thanks you. We miss him greatly. RIP Timbo.
An awful lot of candles to blow out today was his last sentence.. damn! RIP sounds like he had a perfect radio voice
and then the song lyric..."as i lie here semi conscious"....then it goes silent
@@dagg310 yea when I heard that my jaw dropped, eerie
My best man, 52, in the gym with his mates, banter flying and then “hang on guys, I need to sit down, no I need to lie down”, gone 😢 devastated!
Sorry for your loss
@@susysamalex there is no fucking connection between your mate's heart attack and getting a little vaccine in the arm. you insult his memory by insinuating that. what the hell is wrong with you, using your friend's life for cheap conspiracy points like a complete nonce? get some therapy to cope with your loss you twat.
Speaking from experience, it can hit with out any sign or warning at all. A year ago I was cooking breakfast for my family on a Sunday morning and was feeling great. Literally had just about finished and told my kids to go ahead and eat. I wasn’t feeling so well and went to lay down. Went to work that Monday and felt worse and worse. Went home, could barely sleep that night. The next day on Tuesday was heading to work and said okay. Looked at my son that worked with me and said we’re going to have to make a detour. Pulled in hospital and honestly I thought it was Covid. They did EKG and two doctors walked in and said we have to get you to the back right away. No chance to tell my other kids or rest of family bye, love them or anything. Ended up having a heart attack and had stents put in. Had a 98% blockage. Reason for the length of this post is. Any signs at all, don’t wait. Go straight to the hospital. I was definitely a lucky one. Heart goes out to this fellow and thoughts and prayers out to his family
Glad you made it. Good thinking on your part!
I think Tim may have had a few minor signs and warnings but ignored them, as so many victims of fatal heart attacks do. I had an experience like yours except I didn't have nearly the blockage. One stent did it for me. Bottom line, don't ignore the signs and think "oh that isn't what they say it is".
That's so scary. I'm glad you got yourself to hospital and I hope you're doing well now.
God Bless you sir I hope that I heed the warning signs if that ever happens to me because I am also one to just ignore health symptoms as not that big of a deal. Hope you continue to heal and live a wonderful life.
Wow.. He sounded so normal & happy… Would never of expected anything like this to happen.. condolences to all his family & friends 🕊

Rest in peace. He sounded cheerful before he went. He died doing what he loved.
Don't think he loved having a heart attack mate
@@Volaths I highly doubt that's what they meant
@@Volaths you took that literally
I really don"t think he loved dying.
It was unnecessary.
How terribly sad for all his friends and family and for everyone who knew him.
He sounds like a really decent guy who provided a valued service, at least in the Suffolk area anyway.
A very bizarre time and place for it to happen too.
I am sure that his work colleagues will all be deeply shocked and saddened.
RIP Tim Gough.
Wow he sounded so upbeat until the end. Maybe that’s how we all should go. Rip beautiful soul
The silence really hits deep. It represents all of us when we go. We all just become silent and pass on.
Deep but so true
So true
It was unnecessary. He was vaxed.
but...will we rise again, in some way, somewhere "on that sunny day"?
Reminds me a line from the book Johnny got his gun that always sticks with me... 'each man must face death by himself...alone'. RIP
2:00 That's "Grey Day" by Madness, which is the first song on side two of their album "7". The name of the first song on side one of that album is................."Cardiac Arrest".
Creepy Coincidence
😱 omg…
He had a heart attack. which is different to Cardiac Arrest
@@robloxadventureswithtim6055 myocardial infarction and cardiac arrest are different things, true... but he *died* from his heart attack (MI) which means it *definitely* caused a cardiac arrest XD
Another terrible coincidence is that the singer of the song playing right after the last words of the birthday greeting happens to sing "(...) as I lie in a semi-conscious state" at 2:34
Rest in Peace Tim, sounded like a great presenter 🤍
Geeez that's harsh, 55 is no age :(
Never knew the guy, never heard him before, never even knew his name, I am 50 next year, for that reason it hits home a little , sobering :(
RIP Tim.
It absolutely breaks my heart that he clearly had no idea he was not gonna be alive for next hour or two, heart problems are the silent killer.
Atleast he wasn't suffering until that point and perhaps he went out quickly, some people just collapse. RIP
So sad you just know whats happening in that studio during the silence. RIP
He died at home );
R.i.p Tim not sure if I've ever listened to you or not but thank you for your service to others its amazing how some people can be part of your life every day without you even knowing it. I hope wherever he is now he's happy and at peace.
May he rest in peace. Thank you for memorializing his final moments.
Eerie that in the Madness song playing it says I come home in a semi concious state. This is very tragic sincere condolences to his family 💜
God that silence is eerie
I'm in shock. God Bless him. He sounded like a happy, perfect picture of good health. He was talking perfectly and not even 30 seconds later it was silent. This should be a wake up call to everybody. Without warning, we can just go when everything seems fine. Count our blessings, appreciate this gift of life every second you think about it and the moments we share with one another, and treat one another with kindness. God Bless you all
Excellent comments about personal experiences with heart-attacks. -They can be VERY "sudden" and "come out of nowhere," and if you are blessed, you'll wake up in the ICU, answering the first question, "How do you feel?"
""For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night. While they are saying, “Peace and safety!” then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape."-
1 Thessalonians 5:2-3
2:15 kind of some creepy lyrics to be listening to while you're dying.
you just never know when it's your moment. wow.
Live your day wisely and kindly.
Here one minute, gone the next. You never know what’s going to happen.
RIP. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.
It's always good to hear a real announcer. There's so few of them, and sadly now one less.
This is why you never withhold a nice thing to say to someone when you think of it or withhold the love for me your family and friends. Because you never know when it's your time.
It's amazing this can happen with no warning. Makes you wonder if he had any mild symptoms leading up to it which he potentially ignored. Very sad.

He mentions Ted Templeman, producer extraordinaire and member of Harpers Bizarre, the best group no one has ever heard of. R.I.P.
I worked with a US co-announcer, taught me a lot when I was a 23 year-old program Director #1 fall quarter r&b radio station that was closed due to corporate sabotage in the late 80s.
he moved on to am-fm Wezk in knoxville where after a few brief months they found him slumped over his studio desk dying doing what he loved..
that sudden silence is terrifying
4:40 utter chills
That number he played just before he passed away- ('Grey Day' by Madness, apparently), has gotta be the eeriest thing I've ever heard! That bell effect in it suggests death, and the fact that 'Grey Day' was the last song he ever got to play's even bloody eerier still! It's as if the poor bloke knew he was about to go. That's bloody awful! My sincerest condolences to his family, his loved ones, his mates, his colleagues and all his regular listeners. I just hope he didn't suffer beforehand.
Heart attacks are called the Silent Killers for a reason...
Would never have expected anything like this to happen either, everything seemed so normal. I would have immediately thought his station was having technical difficulties or something.
People who feel a bit vulnerable after this. Remember something.
99.9999% of our life, we are happy, living and free. It's only that one last little bit of life that is morbid. most of life is GREAT. I will try to go church and say something for Tim today. I nevre listned to him but i love radio so knew of his existance.
Is it just me, or does the song after the silence sounds creepy with starting the line "cause you're mine", as if Death himself was in control.
It really makes those birthday wishes all the more special
How oddly appropriate to play a spooky Billy Idol song right after the realization set in. He sounds so healthy in the audio too. You don't even hear a groan or a thump of him fainting. Had I been tuning it, I would have just thought it was a signal glitch and had no idea what happened.
You wouldn't hear him falling as 🎤 is disabled whilst music is playing, until you turn it on as they usually waffle between each other during song playing.
add the audio of when the regular broadcast returns? curious how they handled it.
Yes please upload it, I wanna know what happened
The website is having a lot of issues due to the increased demand. This audio alone took about seven hours to download and I had to reencode it to prevent the download from crashing. I'll try to get the reaction uploaded soon but it may take a while. You can subscribe with notifications in the meantime.
Or stop being nosy weirdo
Announcing birthdays right before he dies. And the lyrics to the song before it cuts off the first time. Eerie and sad.
Ironical that his last words are about how old other people are, last one is Bill Wyman having to blow out 86. He never got to that many candles...
I can’t believe iam only just hearing this rip Tim 😢xx
Man, this is so sad. I pray for his family and friends..
Wow this is eerie especially with the song that plays right after.
Look up the lyrics
RIP. How sad.
They were probably trying to figure out what to do, hence the dead air and song changes. Thats crazy though how fast someone can be gone like that.
Question, why would a song cut off half way through? I would imagine if he was having a heart attack the song would at least have continued on to completion before going silent, it's not like the DJ is actively spinning the platters after all.
Rest peacefully Tim, this sudden tragicness is heartbreaking
I thought the same thing. But maybe it was his only option to let someone know there was something wrong?
I imagine there’s always some sort of crew watching into the radio booth talking to him in his ear? Or atleast someone to almost orchestrate the set? My guess would be they were alerted or saw what happened could of even possibly panicked and just cut silent just incase sounds from the booth came out over the radio?
I thought the same. Likely the production team stopped it in panic then put it back on
@@Darrahsdriftgarage He was working from home as it is a very small community radio station. The cut off in the waveform is consistent with the controls or mute button being pressed or held. If he slumped over that is most likely what caused the audio to cut
@@edestreams5146 ahh ok, very sad either way. RIP to him

Dead air . Cardinal sin for any radio presenter
Are you serious?
I hate to say I laughed
Why the music stopped like that 😢... how sad , Rest in Peace Tim ❤
Because he died duhhh
The music stops automatically if someone dies.
@@atlasg2402 He wasn't singing the song himself.. duhh, that' is a great question.
@@Thomas44000 So the radio equipment is connected to his heart pulse and knows he stopped living??
It is our assumption that he lost consciousness and somehow hit the Stop button. It should have just played the rest of the song. He could of course realised what was happening and raised the only alarm he could - stopping the track.
An awful shock to read this. Poor man and his family. He sounded a lovely happy man. God bless him..RIP. x
