I really admire what you are doing. It is no easy feat to run a business and take care of family. I really like your color palettes! Thank you for sharing and I hope you have a busy summer selling all your beautiful flowers!
Thanks Susanne! It’s a busy life for sure; but I’ve also gotten more skilled at setting boundaries and cutting out the less worthy things for my time. It’s a very flowery summer this year, the crops are loving the weather!
@@floristsonfarms I like the purple but also peach/pink. I put together whatever is in bloom in late summer. Hoping the ones I didn't dig up will be okay. Trying both ways this winter and leaving two big ones in the ground, mulched and covered.
Leaving them in can be such a great way to store them if your conditions are right! If I had the right soil, I would definitely do it that way! I’m warm enough here (8b); but my soil tends to be too wet!
This is basically how it’s done commercially, and that’s the wheelhouse that I grew up in! Yes, I agree, with growing our own flowers as well, we need to be very efficient at assembling them!
Just gorgeous! Love the idea of keeping different color pallets separate during harvest, that will help me save a lot of time! Can you tell us more about your routine for dahlia's, is it a holding solution? I'm always looking for more tips and tricks to help with their vase life. I've heard getting them from harvest into a cooler for 24 hrs helps a lot but my dahlias are not yet blooming to experiment with that.
Being a farmer florist is ALL about efficiency, so I’m glad this helped you! I would love to do a video on dahlia harvesting and conditioning. For dahlias, it’s important to do a hydrating treatment at harvest. I use a hydrating solution. Have you heard of the boiling water method? Same purpose :)
The berry color.@@floristsonfarms Going forward I will try harvesting with a color scheme in mine. Right now my recipes are set for certain #focals, line, airy, foliage, and accent. But I just go see what’s blooming and harvest all focals, then all line, then accent etc. Not sure I can wait for summer to try this technique.
Ooh yes, I think to a certain degree, colour is going to be more important than having every category of flower type in there. I tend to cut to a finite amount rather than cut everything and try to sort it out later; but that requires having some extra flowers that I don’t need to harvest to reach my quota. Hope it helps and let me know how it goes with trying it this way!
New subscriber here. Wow I love the color combos. And I love that you grow your own flowers. I'm new to making bouquets but not new to gardening. I really enjoyed this video thanks
@@floristsonfarms I just started my own little flower farm, I have no clue what I’m doing but would love to sell some bouquets in February for Valentine’s Day or Prom. Also I have over 100 mix dahlias that already sprouted from seeds. Definitely taking note on your beautiful flower arrangements. 😊
Thanks for being here! I use Hydraflor. I share my entire process for dahlias in this video: Getting The Longest Vase Life From My Dahlias - ua-cam.com/video/OPgKNaMsCgc/v-deo.html
I learn something from every one of your videos! Your work is very beautiful and inspiring. Can you tell us the flower that looks like a purple furry spike? It adds a great contrast!
Hi! I do wrap florist-style using paper rolls on a cutter so I can customize the size. Sleeves are faster! In this one it’s a white paper roll, I also use brown paper. I prefer a coated or waxed paper; however regular uncoated paper (eg. Kraft paper) is more compostable :)
Beautiful! And I love how you put together the color palettes from harvesting all the way to putting the bouquets together. This was so helpful.. thank you! What is the name of the purple and white dahlia? I don't usually care for the two-toned varieties, but the colors and textures you paired it with have changed my mind. 😍
So glad to hear that it was helpful to you! I’m always trying to transfer my commercial bouquet production methods to my farm florist business to find better ways of working. That dahlia is Edinburgh! She’s quite productive and I ended up using her quite a bit in the past growing season.
Thank you! Depending on which you are seeing, I used laurel, sweet pea, dahlia, and Malope foliage. If you give me a time stamp I can tell you more specifically! Have a great day :)
New subscriber- Wow thanks so much for showing your process! I'm a new flower farmer and so jazzed to see someone work SO efficiently. I'm finding that can be a huge challenge. Can I ask what large green leaf you're using in the arrangements? They add so much to the bouquets. You have an artists eye : )
Yes! Absolutely! That is laurel, we inherited a huge hedge of it with this place and it comes in pretty handy! So glad you found this helpful and I hope it contributes to your future success! Take care! ~ Marie

Hello! I just discovered your channel and subscribed. I love the bouquets you made and would love to know about one of the varieties you used? It looks like a maroon/deep purple bottle brush, lol. They are shown at the 6:28 point. I'm wondering if it is a variety of amaranth? Thanks for your content and best of luck!
Thank you! For production bouquets, speed is key! For my flower stand bouquets I don’t use a lot of greenery, just to keep my price point down. In those I used laurel, sweet pea vine, and dahlia foliage/buds saved from processing - I explain that one more in my last video on dahlia vase life :)
Thank you so much for your feedback! I’ve had some problems with my sound recording equipment and some clips couldn’t be reshot; but hopefully I can get this sorted out better for future videos!

Dahlias are best at least 3/4 open and before the back petals begin to curve backwards! I use Hydraflor!

My dahlias have such a short vase life. How do you handle that? I use Quick Dip or boiling water. But 3-4 days is still my max for most of them.

Do you have a list of your favorite filler flowers?
I will have to make one!
The orange in that first bouquet is that marigold?
Curious what you charge for these
I do those at $20 (for the flower stand only, no preorders/reservations without a $40 minimum) :)
