  • Husqvarna 115iPT4 Pole Saw Review: Pruning Trees Around our Smallholding in the Welsh Borders. Last year, we used loppers and saws (standing on a ladder) to prune the trees around our smallholding. This year, we’re using our new cordless, battery operated Husqvarna 115iPT4 Pole Saw to get the job done.

It looks like that this saw ist too heavy for women, or ist there another reason that SHE is not using it?

I handle most of the pruning, but using this pole saw can be quite physically taxing. Despite its excellent construction, its durability means it's significantly heavier, which becomes challenging to manage over time, giving my shoulders a rigorous workout during prolonged pruning sessions.

    Nice catch there at 6:08!
You two standing side by side with the absolutely beautiful scenery behind, reminded me of the famous Grant Wood painting 'American Gothic, except you two are happy!
The one thing I'm curious to know is if the saw blade angle is adjustable, and if so, in just one plane or more than one.
The reason I'm interested in that is because I will be climbing the tree trunk, and from that position, the blade will be straight out, parallel to the branch I want to cut.
I would want to be able to rotate the blade 90 deg so the blade will cross-cut the branch.
I see this is not an issue when standing on the ground.

Thanks for the feedback Savage. I'm glad we're a bit more jovial than the couple in American Gothic. Very funny. 😂
In response to your question, you can't adjust the saw blade angles - not that I can see anyway. I had a look at it today, and you can only tighten the chain, but there appears to be no apparent way of changing the saw angle. Sorry.

How long does the battery last on these units? Just there reasonably priced compared to other husqvarna or stihl units. Cheers

The 4amp battery on the polesaw lasts for a very long time because polesaws don't draw massive amounts of power and are usually cutting moderately sized branches.

I know you have glasses on but recommend better eye protection, sawdust in the eye really isn't fun! 🙂 Should you be interested I'd reccomend a Henchman tripod ladder, really great on uneven ground.

Thanks the advice Ken. I do wear protective goggles for certain tasks where there is potential for dust and shrapnel.
Thanks for the advice about the Henchman. I was actually on their site last week. They are quite pricey but look good. We need a safe means of clearing our gutters, which are about 10m. I’ll look at them again.

      @@MyHomeFarm Thanks for checking.
I guess I could make do with a straight-out bar. With the reach this affords it won't matter if I get some bark stripping (under the limb cuts). I'm not pruning, these are take-downs, and there is plenty of room on the ground for dropping limbs. The biggest reason I want a pole saw, is to keep sharp things away from my flipline & safety rope.
      Regards to you.

@@MyHomeFarm I'm not sure how I replied to a different comment, but I'm good at screwing up anything that's connected to a computer!
I'm in the northeast corner of the USA. My daughter married a British guy, & I've been over a couple of times to visit the in-laws. They live way down south (Worthing).
I'm enchanted by the view behind you two. Would love to do a hot air balloon ride or open cockpit biplane flight in that area!
      Life is good ❤

We have driven through Worthing many times. Great stretch of countryside down there.
There are regular hot air balloon races around us. We attended the launch of one pre-covid. Not my personal cup of tea getting into one though with my fear of heights.

I like watching your videos. The tools you use are "professional home-owner"-grade, so they should be usable without too steep of a learning curve.
The only thing is that I went into the Makita electric brand, so all my tools are biased towards theirs. I don't think many home-owners would invest in all the Makita/Husqvarna/Ryobi/... battery brands like you are showing in your channel, but would rather stick to one.
Thanks for the nice videos though 😊 I watch every single one of them.

Thanks for the feedback and great comments.
We tend to evaluate products on our requirements and then purchase them provided that it’s a reputable brand.
Makita is a terrific brand. Have you gone down the battery route?
Are there any other products or brands you’d like us to review or check out?
Thanks once again for your comments and support, and for watching our videos. Massively appreciated.

Love the blue wren Weber kettle performer you have. Not sure what years the various UK models were introduced, but that taco-shield under the handle came out in 2013 in Los Estados Unidos.

Well spotted. We’ve had the glen blue Weber for about 8 years now and it’s a terrific barbecue. Do you have the same barbie?
