  • @FooDanger
    @FooDanger Рік тому +980

    1. Coffe IS overpriced in most commercial coffee shop. There is a reason why every barista is taught to upsell on coffee/espresso shots etc. Thats where the profit is. So not true.
    2. Lots of coffee shops use a single shot for small cups and double shots for large cups etc, so not true.
    3. Most people think strong taste = strong coffee = lots of caffeine but this correlation is mostly not true and a simple way to get a strong coffee taste is just to roast the coffee really dark but it has little to no effect on caffeine - but amount of caffeine AND taste definitely varies depending on where you buy it... obviously.
    4. Lol - we just wanna do a good job and service is like 50% of the job...
    5. Alot of shops have automated grinders that get the amount right super consistently - they still need to be checked every single day due to slight changes in humidity and wear but not every single cup. The reason why alot of really nice smaller shops weigh every single time is because they have cheaper, manual grinders - starbucks value efficiency while smaller shops value craftmanship. So not really true.

    Few points to say:
    1) a large tends to have more coffee in most shops, they usually put 4 shots of espresso instead of just the usual two.
    2) We do weigh our coffee, every shot should be a consistent weight. But don't expect us to do it every single time we make a coffee. We tend to do this every couple of hours to dial in the grinders.

The C market or the price by which coffee is sold in the supply chain isn’t the most accurate in comparison to it’s cost of production. The C price went down to less than a dollar per pound during 2019. Have in mind that for a coffee producer to produce coffee it costs them about $3 per pound. Now have in mind that you have a product that costs you $3 dollars to produce based off of market pricing that is derived by things out of your control your clients will try to pay closer to just $1. So producing coffee is losing money for coffee producers. Right now at coffee origins there is less coffee farmers since they are giving up on it because of a pricing model that does not work.

@@gellertgrindelwald2921 Wooow it's only 1-2 - 5 $ cheaper, it's coffee it doesn't cost in the thousands, that amount of money you talk about saving represents a huge amount in percentage of the coffee's price.
Sure if you buy a Venti or a gallon you'll get a little better value for money compared to the other sizes, but even if you buy a gallon of coffee that doesn't justify the price they are putting on their coffe, and many people just want a regular amount of coffee not gallons.
There is a difference between being cheap/poor and not liking to waste money for unnecessary overpriced things or simply finding it overpriced.
And sure Starbucks doesn't seem veeery overpriced compared to other Starbucks rip-offs who built their business model copying starbucks' s model, maybe you're a gen z who never experienced a coffe in regular restaurants/cafés and only got used to coffees in this trend of coffee shops which was started or at least made popular by Starbucks, but coffee can be found in many other places way cheaper than Starbucks.
And for the food, I'll advise you to some time try going to a bakery pastry and try food there, it's way more delicious and way more cheap than Starbucks.

    2) Large coffee has a double shot of espresso, small has only one shot. You’d get more energized from black or brewed coffee without milk, than latte or cappuccino

Unless you're a coffee shop inside the garage of your mom letting you use it rent free, coffee being 10% of the price is reasonable considering you have other direct costs (milk) and indirect costs (cups, straw, sugar packets, packaging, stirrer) and overhead costs (wages, rent, insurance, taxes and licenses, marketing, spoilage and wastages, etc)
The actual coffee the cafe sourced?
It's underpriced. The coffee farmers are underpaid. Rising temperatures killing crops. Water and fertilizer prices are soaring. Coffee is now cheaper than it was in the 70s but consumers want it to be even cheaper.

As someone who works at a local coffee shop this isn’t entirely accurate
Our shop does increase espresso amounts based on size. Also the weight of the shot is true that it will taste better, however most grinders weigh the grounds as they dispense so you won’t actually see your barista weighing them. Also at my shop we are nice to some customers because we have to be, but for the most part we genuinely enjoy everyone’s company.

Weighing your coffee once a day or every new bag of beans is more than enough, timing also only once a day. And to be mean that is my first cup that I will weigh and time.
Friendliness is also just part of the whole industry of customer services. The caffeine might make us seem more upbeat.
Beans make a difference in caffeine, but usually you'll see an Arabica bean and well those are pretty similar in terms of caffeine. The taste is mostly down to the length of the roast, other variables are time amount of coffee grounds but also how fine it is.

I did taste coffee at Starbucks but only at the beginning of my shift, only one shot, not quite enough to affect my mood. I was just nice because I’m nice, and I did have a positive impression and cared about my customers. Coffee beans are also soooo much cheaper than what you pay for being made at a shop. If they are making a cup of coffee, without anything else added, it is sometimes 4 to 5 times more than what it would be at home. A cup of coffee at home costs like a quarter

Coffee has to be planted, harvested when the bean is just right, dried, fermented, and then farmers who went through months of labour get their hard earned labour basically stolen by massive companies who pay them basically nothing. Also, as a dunks employee, the amount of espresso DOES change for different sizes. Small = 1 shot, up to Large = 3. Of course, you can always ask for more. Just be aware that if you do, you are putting a bit more strain on the employees as if you get milk, skim, or cream I guess, the amount is dispensed via machine. Granted, this isn't an issue because the milk is mixed in with the espresso, so adding or taking away isn't an issue, but if you order the macchiato it will cause new employees a bit of stress. Or at least... the ones who actually care enough to get stuff right. Newer myself, and I've seen nearly 10 people start and quit within a month.
