People were making guesses about what was on the phone and Nat was replying back to them. Max was confused because Nat said not to show them then he took the phone and showed part of the screen. Max couldn't see that Nat had most of the screen covered so he didn't know for sure if he was showing the same amount that he just told Max not to show hence he said it was confusing.
Nat was very young when he was paired with Max so Max had to be very careful with how to be around that underage kid no matter how cute and adorable he was.
