Old Steam Powered Machine Shop 64 Rust on the pulleys
Вставка
- Опубліковано 3 чер 2020
- The first video of 2020 season includes getting the shop ready to do work, and machining started on 5 new replica line shaft hangars. If you are new here, My shop was set up to depict a working 1925 steam powered "job" machine shop similar to what would have been found all over the US at that time. From a time when nearly all industry was powered by either water or steam power. Discussion, questions and comments about steam power, line shaft machinery and early machine shop activity are always welcome here. Thanks for watching.....Dave

"If I can't get it, I'll make it" that's what makes you so cool Mr.Richards :)
I like that using the Harbor Freight add sheets to start the fire!
JIM
perfect
Talk about made in China!
I noticed that too .
What we seemed to have forgot or ignored is , Communists will always be our enemy / adversary .
God bless

When l seen the Harbor Freight flyer go up in flames...that was a powerful message, l couldn't agree more! When l buy a used vintage tool or machine at auction and the guy next to me says..You could have bought that same item for half price at Harbor Freight..l almost come unglued......l enjoy your channel👍 From Indiana
@@b.a.brackus6371 & it will last for a 10th of the time your antique will-----assuming that the Harbor Freight one works at all.
Good to have you back in OSPMS World Headquarters, an island of calm in a world of chaos.
Dave just to let you now your videos are very educational. Today in the midddle of a "rush job" one of my machines went down. Armed with two cups of coffee and your techniques, i managed to tear down the machine, repair it and get it together in an hour. The "rush job" then left the shop on time. Youre a good teacher!
Good to see ya back at it Dave! Didn't realize how much I needed an old steam powered machine shop fix.
It's nice to see you back in action. Your new wall, bench and cubbyhole shelf came out beautifully. I bet walking into your shop after being away for so long must be a thrilling experience, all your old friends, and the smell of the wood and oil, wonderful!
Just last week I was thinking "I wonder how Dave it doing?" and here you are.... Great to see a new video and glad you are safe and sound. .... Russ
Me, too!
You are amazing Dave, a real treasure. Thanks for your videos.
Good to see your shop fired up & running again . Cheers .
Good to see you again Dave , I love the old machinery & you explaining things . It's very calming to listen to you and hear the engine and the line shafts running . Since I started watching you I've bought a 1920 Lodge & Shipley 18 X 48 in. lathe took the apron apart to clean & inspect , got it back together now and about ready to run . You were my inspiration . Thank you for sharing your knowledge .
Yes sir Mr. Dave you had a good fire there.
I am really glad you are not dead Dave.
So glad you're not dead. It's good to see you back at work. Hope you had a good winter.

Nice to see you back! I was wondering what happened! I'm with you on China, that's for sure - I 100% agree with your statement on that - sometimes inexpensive isn't even close to worth it.
Good to have you back in the old shop.
Glad you’re back Dave!!!!
My sentiments exactly!
Old Steam Powered Machine Shop! Nice to have you back!
Hi from New Zealand. Best wishes to all in USA. So sorry to see such bad things happening.

So Great to have you back!
Really good to hear your NY shop clickity clacking again. For me, this is the best machine shop site on You Tube.
Glad to see you back Dave.
Just finished watching the entire clip. Great job David. Steam engines are very dear to me. My grandfather was a rig builder for Standard Oil Company and when I was young, he would take me to the sites in Southern California where the wooden and steel derricks he built were still standing. There would be a hit or miss engine still operating the pump and old steam engines discarded or in pieces and he would explain the history to me.
I went on to have a career in the oil service business and am now retired. Still remember those engines!
Thanks
harbor freight ad up in smoke..... Love It!!!
I love your machine shop.
Nice little nod to the Hazzard Frought. Well done!
Is it just me or is the sound of his machines like a prefect symphony
Good to see you back Dave, new shop fit out is looking smart.

Dear Mr. Dave,
When I was younger (last century) friends dad was a stationery steam engineer and he would take me to work occasionally, worked at a state mental hospital. There I got to see water tubed boilers that were 4 stories tall. They burned a coal mixed with water that was blowed in. Very powerful and very noisy. He had to a once a shift (BEST PART)
Missed you Dave, thanks you made my day today.
Just thinking about you a few days ago....Super nice see you OK and good.....Lost a great friend while you were away.....His name was Roy Gray he was my age about 77 years old....The C word got him...He and l watched all of your video's together...l miss him...But very glad to see you in your shop again....See you got that little steam engine high balling again....Thanks David...!
Sorry to hear that Steve. I lost one last summer also. Doing what he loved in his experimental aircraft....Dave
Extraordinary!!! I've seen ten other shops on steam and none as beautiful as his.
Thank you so much for the hard work and dedication. You are extremely rare. Such a treat
“I’m not dead yet”. Well, that’s a pretty good way to start a new season!

Good to see you back. That's great to hear about the Broad top, That machine shop is an amazing piece of history glad to hear about the new owners.
Good to see you back. That isn't rust on the pulleys, it's traction enhancer.
GOOD TO SEE YA AGAIN!!! ENJOY ALL YOUR VIDEOS THANKS MUCH.
Glad I found this video. I'll bet there are some 'new' machinists that could learn a few tricks from yo in your shop.

Brings back old times watching the
steam engine running like a clock.
Thanks you for a show worth watching. I can almost smell the
aroma of the shop.
Glad to have you back and that you are doing well hope to see more work in the shop
This is by far my favorite machine shop on UA-cam. I love the fact that it’s steam powered as I want to make steam engines once I learn to use machine tools plus many more projects.
Welcome back David. The wall behind the shaper looks great.
Nice to cya back , been busy at the museum going down this weekend to clean out 2 of the Lancashire boilers
Good to see you, Dave. I like the pressure gauge on the radiator! You don't see that very often.
Welcome back! Looking forward to this summer's videos from you.
Nice to have you back Dave.
Thank you for all your videos.
Good to see you back again Dave. Cattail Foundry does great work as we get quite a few of their casting for the various engines at Rough and Tumble Historical Association In Kinzers, PA. Jeff
Hope you can have some shows this summer...Dave
@@davidrichards5594 It doesn't look good for shows at R&T, the board canceled the shows thru August . That means no Thresherman's Reunion this year. We'll have to see about the Time of Harvest Show in October. Jeff
So awesome to see you're back Dave!! Stay safe! :D
Absolutely love your show Dave. So glad to see you back at it again. I am a RF Electronics engineer, but love to watch mechanical parts being milled and turned. Its addictive. Your stream powered shop is amazing. Keep up the good work. Cheers from South Africa.
Great to hear from Africa.....Dave

Nice to see you back safe and sound and healthy all the best from Wales
You are one of a dying art of steam power love your videos from East Texas
Glad to see you back Mr. Richards! I hear ya on the China shit. I just sent back $4500 in materials that were 6 weeks late that were marked made in China. Told my supplier to find it made in USA or I’d find another supplier. He told me I was the 5th person to do that to him in the last month. One of those clients runs around $200K/mo through his business.
ramosel, glad to hear that. It's the only way we can change things, Governments and big business don't appear to want to change things.
I was taking a drink of iced tea when I saw your fire-starting tinder...needless to say I had to reach for a towel! Great to see you back! :-)
Recycling at its best! :)
Gday Dave, great to see you back in the shop enjoying yourself, I’m looking forward to more on the planer, take care Matty
A great kick off video for 2020 Dave. Welcome back.
Great to see you back in the shop Dave. Looking forward to more videos this summer.
Dave I know you think you have nothing to show us, but alot of us feel we where born one generation too late, and we could stand a tutorial on how to scratch our ass with our morning coffee! Share everything you do! We do appreiciate your efforts.
Love your workshop, Dave. I'd really love to work in a situation like that. One would be smiling every day when heading to work.
Keep these vids coming Dave. (Rick from New Zealand.)
welcome back Dave, It's comforting to hear your shop running again.

Glad the shop is opened up again!
Good to see you Dave! As always, it's a great video.
I am so happy to see you are back! You made my week! Thank you. The bench and wall/shelves look really great.

Great to see you back Dave, missed your videos.
I just found your channel! Very nice & well maintained shop equipment Sir. I'm a machinist but it's nice to see someone preserve history.
It's good to see ya back, Dave and to here the clacking and seeing pullies spin again:)
Thanks Dave.
Good to have you back. I have been in my workshop this evening and am just chilling with a glass of rum before bed. I agree about buying tooling, I've come to the same conclusion myself. They have filled their pot! Nice castings too. Always nice to see a bit of old fashioned skill. I wish they were local to me. The cut to get under the skin certainly made the lathe work. All the best from Yorkshire.
Thanks, good to hear from UK...Dave
It's a good thing, that you are very sure you're still alive !
Not being alive is rather a bore, I am told...so..good news all over !
I may not have much wisdom to share... but I'll say this : keep breathing !!! That is the clue !
All the best
Paddy
Nice to see you're up and running again. 😊
Like the multiple camera angles. Looking forward to seeing the EBT shop your. Hoping they restore it back to actual steam operation. I visited EBT in the mid 70s and have been a fan since. I live in California now and wish I could get back there.
Glad to see that you survived the horrible winters in Florida. Back were the fun is. I bet here in California that wood fired boiler would not even be allowed, let alone all that very unsafe line shaft and open belt equipment
Line shafts are known in the state of California to be too dangerous for men with man-buns to operate.
Glad you're back! Been missing seeing your vids...Cheers; Mike in Louisiana
Glad to see you back again.
Hell at the rate we are going you may have the most modern shop around soon.
Great to see you back I have been a fan since I discovered your channel and late summer of 2015 I know a lot of work goes into producing these videos. thank you!!
Good to see the wheels turning once again Dave! regards from Kenny in Australia.
Love your videos Dave. I'm always fascinated with old machinery, especially steam driven machines. Keep up the good work. 👍👍👍👍
Thank you. I was getting worried.
