people don't want honest..they wanna hear what they wanna hear..was always a problem at work an honest opinion turned into a complaint..that is why I just started sayin THAT IS A STUPID IDEA and we are not doing that
Agree 100%... I got so tired of pulling the neck off to adjust the neck of my Geddy Lee CIJ, I made a jig and routed out the body & pickguard so all I need use is a screwdriver to tweak when needed.
I used to have a "proper" 1962 USA Precision. It had reverse tuners and clay dots which I see this Reissue doesn't have. Luckily I never had the need to adjust the truss rod. I kept it for about 30 years before selling it--which was my biggest regret. It was by far the best playing and sounding bass I have ever had.
I had a Fender Precision 1962 vintage re-issure that I bought new in 1991. Never needed any adjustments (well, one little turn the 2nd year) and it always played and sounded great. I sold it 3 years ago and cry when I think about it. The best bass I've ever owned ! What was I thinking ????
Looks just like my 1970 Precision. Oh ho I wish I still had it. I traded it for a Yamaha classical guitar. I realized I couldn’t be a one man band with only a bass. Now I have basses and guitars. Thank you David. You’re the best.
My beloved Stingray is going through a complete refret and fretboard sanding to correct a nasty twist in the neck right now. I'm watching every setup video I can to calm the nerves
I did that one time. I used a big drill bit and then I filed it with a rat tail file on an angle. Then I cleaned it up with fine sandpaper. It wasn't perfect but it worked out well enough.
Really nice looking p bass sounds good too. I have 78 American fender p bass in ebony bought it new in 78. It's mint still because I never played it on stage. Fender should be shot for you having to take neck off to set it. Only had to change my neck once in 45 years. People keep them strung and in tune always and out of the case in your home in nice Temps and you want have to mess with the neck. Thanks dave for the video. I always enjoy
I just bought a 2020 MIJ Heritage 60s Precision. The exchange rate is good and so I used my US credit card. Not sure the exact rate but it should work out to about $675. Not sure how much setup it will require but that truss rod thing seems a bit ack-basswards to me, too.
Many are scared to pop the neck off. I encourage people to not be afraid. Instead I suggest that they read the neck under the usual 440 tension, and then read after the strings have been removed. Take the neck off and give her 1/2 turn and bolt her back up. String it up and simply read it again…and just go from there. It’s not so bad and you gain experience with every bass you do this to.
I got to play a Honest-to-God 59 P-bass for awhile. It was a burst that had been rattle canned black. But the neck was fairly straight and it sounded so sweet I didn't mind the buckle rash on the body or the cigarette burns on the headstock. Sure wish the cute little blonde who owned it hadn't broken up with me!🤣😂🤣
The bridge saddles on the base can be flat because they only have one string. However on the guitars they hold up two strings. The only way they can be flat is if there is no radius on the fret board like a clasic guitar.
What I find even more crazy than the heel-adjust truss rod is that some people insist they continue manufacturing guitars this way for “vintage appeal”. WTF?
It's no big deal, a truss rod is something you should not mess with. Set it and forget it. If it needs adjustment, then that's life. I have one bass that has perfect action for the last 8 years, and never have touched the truss rod once.
@Grant Koeller I wish that were true for all situations. I travel to all parts of the globe and depending on the changing conditions (temps, humidity, altitude) a neck adjustment is almost always needed. If a bass/guitar never leaves the safe confines of home... You're good (for the most part). But go from London to Los Angeles for a gig and your beloved instrument will be doing a complex yoga pose when you open the case. My Music Man Stingray (with roasted maple neck) seems less susceptible, but it's still moved a bit from region to region.
Took the neck off my brothers P bass, looks like it's a '69. Neck is fine, but I can't see the truss rod... Is this an issue? Shone a torch in there and it's all OK. Hadn't taken it onboard but there's no scratchplate. Doh...
It looks like the neck is misaligned. The E string has a lot of space to the upper edge, and the G is closer to the lower edge. Is it my impression or there's something wrong with Fender's QC?
Couldn't help myself. As soon as you said "this is gonna sound good", I responded, "Of course. It's a '62 P-bass!" Like you're going to hear me in Canada. 🤦
if anyone is interested, i have a beautiful 1996 "foto flame" p-bass for sale. no play time and no cracking. few small nicks and a scratched knob from bad storage is about it....
well visit the site..they sell many things..the stock ALL FENDER AND GIBSO AND GRETCH parts..and if you have no money you get what you can .. STFU..we have no resource like this in Canada..thanks for the bs COMMENT
That is the epitome of a beautiful and simple bass.
Couldn't agree more!
There is a reason...
Simple? Like removing the neck for truss rod adjustment? Spoke nut is the way forward
You had me at “P bass”.
That would make a great TShirt..
You had me at not being able to adjust the truss rod unless you remove the neck.

I like your bass playing! Thanks for teaching us to care for guitars and basses! :)
I can watch and listen to you work on these guitars all day! It's so relaxing!

Except no tug bar. Or the other covers. I still have a picture of me playing it - somewhere

Nice, clean, simple...I like it
Thanks Dave
You bet
Canadians are the nicest people.
Hi from the UK🇬🇧
Thanks David.👍
Simple, perfection.
I have a lefty 1990 version of this bass B) Same sunburst finish & everything.
I always make a cut out in the pickgaurd at the truss rod adjust area.

@@sd3falco Yes, I always take the pick gard of to work on it but I mark it before I remove it.

Triumph was a great band.
@David Achorn But a mostly annoying motorcycle brand in the 70s... leaky crankcases and f#@$ed-up Whitworth nuts &bolts...

So glad you passed the wasp. That’s a nice bass.
Thanks 👍
Excellent Bass

Wow you actually played some Maiden. You rock dude.
Sounded like Killers but I don’t think it was.

I had the same relationship with my ex's dad's Ken Smith bass.
You can remove the neck in less than 3 minutes, so no big deal to adjust truss rod. Loosen strings, remove 4 bolts.
after 10 tries no fun
Good job Dave!

yah yah yah yah
that is a beautiful bass!!!!!!!!!
I prefer the spoke wheel adjustment if it's at the heel, like on an EBMM.
Definitely👍
I can smell the summer storm an Dave playing that p bass in his ampeg SVT 👍

Love a good cop out. Keep em coming…
Great video.
Peterson StroboPlusHD is pretty good. I know Dave is using one. Stroboscopic tuner is the only way to go.

When you unscrew the bolts for the neck, do you use a power screwdriver or a hand screwdriver?
Use power ..the driver has a torque setting

Like you're going to hear me in Canada. 🤦
I think you're a Iron Maiden's fan, a detailed analysis your bass part
If it's a copy where is the skunk stripe on the neck? Good work tho
expert group..thank you

Are the Japan models as good or better than American?
💯

Why no access? Simple. Because it’s not made by the other Japanese guys at Yamaha!

How you can champion a guitar which requires you to remove the neck for truss rod adjustment… is beyond me.
I have a MIJ Jazz bass, and I hate the fact that you have to take the neck off to give the truss rod a turn. Just lame.
Hidden truss adjustment?
No thanks.
I will never own a bass or guitar with that debacle.
Actually it's a Fender branded Squier.
wrong
In most cases... The MIJ Fenders are far superior to the MIAs.
Probably why there are so many MIJ fanatics.
@@DavesWorldofFunStuff made in Japan by a contracter not by Fender. Right.
Why this obsession with Solo Guitars?? They sell Chinese garbage. I'm starting to think you're getting a kickback form the Chinese military.
