Cold Chisel is one of the most popular bands of all time in Australia. Peaked in the 80s but still hugely popular. The main singer for most of their songs is the 2nd singer in this song.
One of the best Aussie bands EVER❤❤❤ Cold Chisel, Jimmy Barnes, Ian Moss. I grew up listening to these guys. I was in high school in the 70's, when Aussie bands RULED. Brings back SO many memories ❤ Khe Sahn, Breakfast at Sweethearts, too many songs to list. Jimmy Barnes is a friggin' LEGEND and is still performing (he actually emigrated from Scotland) Get into it....Cold Chisel LEGENDS in their own lifetime, friggin' AWESOME!!!❤❤❤❤❤👍👍👍🇭🇲🇭🇲🇭🇲🇭🇲🇭🇲❤❤
So excited to see another great reactor discover Australia’s favourite rock band. Jimmy Barnes who sang at the end usually leads. Ian Moss, lead guitarist wrote this song and sang most of it. Their style changed over the years but they’ve done everything from rock and soul to blues.
Ok, yes the song was fire, but did you not hear the world's best harmonica player, the great David Blight. I don't understand how can anyone can annalise Cold Chisel's magnificent performance without mentioning David's incredible talent.
Mate, great reaction. So glad you like Chisel. Check out 'When the War is Over' from the same concert (Ringside). Ian Moss (the guitarist) also does a magic version of Georgia on My Mind. Welcome to the world of Chisel!!!!
Such a great version of Bow River. The version of “When the War is Over” that they did in the same concert is great. They’ve got so many bangers. Fantastic catalogue.
This is Aussie Pub Rock at its finest. I’ve been lucky enough to to see chisel live. They are all fine musicians. 2 vocalists. And yeah there are lots for you to listen to , they were very prolific.
There goes another one down the Cold Chisel rabbit hole😆. Rory I look forward to the many reactions to Cold Chisel that you will now embark on. I’m not going to suggest any songs because they are all bloody belters.
It's such a buzz watching people around the world discovering some of the extraordinary bands we here in Australia grew up with just enjoying as a part of our musical landscape and thinking no more deeply about it. We loved them but with a closeness of those we know well. I sometimes envy those who are blown away with their first experience, but I'm often so happy I've known them all my life. But, thank you to reactors like yourself, Rory for allowing me a new way to smile at music we here in Australia are all very proud of. L
Hi, how precise and close to a sentimental joy of tunes provided by these blokes as a rock n roll band. Quality is their hallmark and cheers from an old bloke.
I love watching these reactions to our Chisel's Bow River. I just smile and keeping thinking "Wait for it... Wait for it.... There you go!" Headbanging time!
This band have been together since they were young kids (teens). They originated in South Australia and moved to Sydney early on. They’ve done the hard yards and the most respected musicians in Australia. They still play decades later and draw HUGE crowds. Live there is NOTHING to compare. They are FIRED
Ian Moss is the guitar player and sings quite a few of their songs he had a career after cold chisel. Jimmy Barnes is the main singer and had a career afterwards. They were the wild child band of Aus from 70’s -80’s. When the war
Had to re-watch this reaction because I've seen everyone who's reacted to this, and your excitement is tangible and contagious 😊. Because i love this band and Jimmy, seeing you love it was awesome.
Baby boomer here, born in 1960 in Melbourne. The best music was here in Aussie pubs every weekend. Biggest decision was which pub to see which band. We were so spoilt for choice every single weekend. Being single, no responsibilities and free, it was a brilliant time to be alive in Melbourne. The music of my life with so many great memories! We were so lucky and we knew it!!!
not just melbourne - sydney was the place to be in in the 80s - the pub scene was amazing and australia was definately the king of music worldwide in the 80s
@@bodybalanceU2 I’m sure it was just as good. I can only speak for Melbourne though as I didn’t do it anywhere else, except the Great Ocean Road at Lorne (which was a wild New Years Eve 1984) and Torquay.

Hi Rory. Welcome to Oz Music. This is still played on the radio here, all these years later. Being isolated, Australia has a brilliant home grown music history. The first singer/guitarist is Ian Moss, the second singer is Jimmy Barnes (he is the main singer of the band). But note everyone in the band song harmonies. Oh, and the harmonica player! He is not part of the band, but boy does he go off!! And yes, that driving bass. Glad someone got you to listen to them. They had a great song called You Got Nothing I Want. It's about them going to the US and the record label execs telling them ok, yes, but you need to dress this way, you need to do this sort of music. They basically told them to piss off and came back to Australia!
Cold Chisel are legendary on Australia. Every member of the band can sing, every member has written hit songs. This one was actually written by the guitarist Ian Moss which is why he gets the lead on this song. He takes the lead on quite a few of their songs. He was actually the original lead singer of the band until Jimmy, the second one to sing, joined the band and became the regular lead. Their voices just go together so well. Ian smooth tones irons out the rough edges of Jimmy's voice. You'll love their performance of Wild Thing from the Last Stand Concert .
I was blessed to be a kid of the 80s and I grew up with this music. Here in Australia it’s calls pub rock and every good pub had live music every Thursday Friday and Saturday. This band cold chisel was the very first concert I ever went to when I was 14.
What a Killer band...Chisel were a major pub band in their early days late 70's and 80's in Sydney. So many 'tear it up' Saturday nights seeing them live.
The guitar player (and singer for this song) is Ian Moss. Great player. Very tasteful, bluesy playing...always puts the song first. Though, like the band, not really known outside Australia, unfortunately. Its worth checking out more of their stuff. Really good songs and great musicians.

@@cjjoe2385 you, sir, are 100% correct. I hope you got the 'live at Newcastle" version. It deserves to be the biggest song in the world this year. Funny thing is; yes, "Bow River" deceives to begin, but NOTHING deceives as much as "Lose Yourself" with Kasey Chambers! If you want a list of Australian artists as good as this, but you've never heard of them, let me know. A few to begin. The world's first heavy music, blowing ear drums from around 1963, Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs "Mama Live At GTK" is probs the best live version. I mean, 1960's, seriously? You also probs should know this. If musos aren't good live in Aus, they're not gunna get recorded. They spend years in bloodbath pubs to get this good. Now turn 180 degrees, the tall blonde goddess, Delta Goodrem, singing with the tiny blind Aboriginal, Gurrumul live on The Voice Australia, singing "Bayini" in his language. Tissue required. Back to live rock, try Baby Animals with the oh so attractive Suzie De Marchi out front singing "Backbone" live. Let me know.
Absolutely love this version & yes for the guitar & vocals. But the highlight for me in this performance was the Harmonica player, I think he held the whole song together 👌
64 old Aussie here. Like AC 😎👍DC then listen to these blokes. Listening to what Aussies call a legend of a band for the 1st time is new. Hope you enjoy it.
this song is 🔥🔥🔥 this band is 🔥🔥🔥 This song was written by the guitar player Ian Moss other members of the band Jimmy Barnes - Vocals Phil Small - Bass Don Walker - Keyboards Steve Prestwich - Drums with special guest Dave Blight on Harp
That performance is a 10. As said below Wild Thing (Troggs) live takes performance and song to 13..... From Last Stand concert. Guaranteed 100 percent enjoyable from the band's younger days.
You want to see them at their best? Watch "Wild Thing", their live version of the Troggs song. I promise you'll never be the same again. Best band in the Australia.
Best Aussie rock band. Huge and eclectic array of songs. First saw them in 1980 in Sydney and many many times in pub venues across the city and suburbs. Two front singers though Jimmy Barnes is the main lead. In Bow River it's Ian Moss with Jimmy backing him. Awesome concert. Check out Ian Moss's version of Georgia. Epic.
Old mate this is a song about the dry season turning into the wet season in the top half of Australia and living away from it knowing it's happening. Unless you've experienced it you don't get it. Come over and experience it!😉
Mate....this is pub rock. The best ever. There are so many great aussie bands that never made it overseas because they wanted them to tone it down, make it more sugary and they said FU. The Chisels wrote a song called "You got nothing I want" about the time they went to the States and basically told the execs to get lost - we won't change and you have nothing that we want to make us.
Jimmy Barns is the main lead singer (rougher voice, mike shoved down the front of his jeans). Ian Moss is the second lead singer (on guitar). This bands been rocking Australia for decades. Both have their own careers as well. Since you liked this, try Jimmy's duo with John Farnham (When something is wrong with my Baby) and his duo with Joe Bonamassa (Stone Cold). As with most Aussies singers, live performances are usually better.
I am a Cold Chisel fan. Here is a (relatively) brief synopsis: Cold Chisel were/are one of Australia’s greatest rock n’ roll bands. Their energetic live performances captivated audiences across Australia, as did numerous songs that are now burned into the hearts of many Australians. Contemporaries of AC/DC, and a product of the same tough pub rock scene, “Chisel” formed in Adelaide in 1973, moved to Sydney in 1976, released their first album in 1978, and had disbanded by the end of 1983. The most famous lineup of the band included Jimmy Barnes (lead singer), Ian Moss (lead guitar & vocals), Don Walker (keyboards & main songwriter), Phil Small (bass) & Steve Prestwich (drums). With many guest appearances by David Blight on harmonica, and a few others. After their breakup, Jimmy Barnes began an extremely successful solo career which continues to this day. Despite breaking up in 1983, Cold Chisel have enjoyed reforming for studio albums (and tours) in 1998, 2012, 2015, 2019, and there have been numerous other releases. Sadly, drummer Steve Prestwich passed away in 2011. He was replaced by Charley Drayton. There is much more to say about Cold Chisel’s songs, their performances, the members of the band, their missed opportunities for overseas recognition etc., but I will leave that for others.
This band played my school social (formal) in Adelaide, South Australia 🇦🇺 back in the 70s. A year or so later they didn’t need to play school socials. Band lineup…….. Ian Moss (Guitar/Vocals), Jimmy Barnes (Vocals), Phil Small (Bass), Steve Prestwich (drums/percussion), Don Walker (Keyboards), David Blight(harmonica)……. Songs were written by Ian Moss, Don Walker, Jimmy Barnes and (the late) Steve Prestwich……. Super talented band !!!
Aussie pub rock, play and sing so well, the drunks don't run you out. These guys are the best. After the US record execs messed them around, they came home and Jimmy Barnes, Barnsey wrote, You got Nothin' I Want. Listen to Saturday night for Ian Moss, Mossy. Later on try Barnsey and Farnsey, John Farnham, doing a bluesy Sam and Dave song, When Something is Wrong With my Baby. The best one is on a well loved tv show, called Hey, Hey, It's Saturday, but they may block you, the official clip is good, the guitarist is Diesel, Barnsey's Bro-in-Law. Recently Barnsey put out a 30 year anniversary album called Soul Deep, with among the extra's, Soothe Me, with Sam Moore from Sam and Dave, In his 90's still got it.
Just saw a sneak preview to Farnsey's movie on UA-cam, John Farnham: Finding the Voice, out on May 18, in the cinemas. Barnsey does a bit of recollecting of John Farnham in it. They were fantastic together.. Hahaha.... I still remember John Farnham singing 'Sadie', the cleaning lady 😂😂😂 he's come a long way since then, he was Johnny Farnham back then, too!!! Oh god, I'm really showing my age now😂😂👍❤️🇭🇲🇭🇲
Most of Chisel songs are explosive… Ian Moss- guitarist & vocalist Jimmy Barnes- vocalist Don Walker- piano & songwriter David Bliath- Harmonica Phil Small- bass Steve Prestwich- drums Chisel was invented when the members were 16+…most of them had a common thread of poverty, hunger, abuse and neglect.. some exposed to domestic violence and abandonment… mostly Jimmy… adversity bought them together and the need to belong saved them… they survived the small halls, bikie taverns, rough outback conditions. They became the ultimate pub band and many of their songs are in our DNA. Don Walker was a brilliant lyricist who highlighted Australian society and issues . They spoke to the people, for the people… and still we blare their music out of our subwoofers with windows down and wail away!!!! CLASSIC COLD CHISEL music is raw, bluesy and seexplosive. I’m so grateful to have lined up for hours to get in to smoke filled taverns, pubs, outdoor venues and pubs…you certainly get your monies worth.
Grew up with these guys, Awesome Australian band. Always brilliant to see them live. They certainly were party days for myself and many others. Thanks for covering them.
Welcome to Cold Chisell, a very deep rabbit hole. The guitarist and 2nd lead singer has his own career and is well respected in the music industry across many genres as a guitarist and as a vocalist. The lead singer , Jimmy Barnes , was Australia’s biggest act, and is still performing full voice to packed houses...... has his own bottomless rabbit hole. Try his duet with Tina Turner..... Simply The Best. Then his live in the studio Stone Cold with guitar legend Joe Bonamassa. Then his bluesy soul duet with John Farnham..... When Something is Wrong With My Baby. Farnham is another rabbit hole. Those who don’t believe Barnsey is Australia’s greatest ever singer believe Farnham is the best singer ever.....worldwide.

I'm so glad you acknowledged the awsome bassline in this song it is so often overlooked
Loved your reaction! You are very observant thank you for that. Got yourself a new sub cheers
My boys cold chilsel
Bow River is is the Northern Territory "The Top End" he refers to in the song.... classic Aussie music

This song was written by the guitar player Ian Moss
other members of the band
Jimmy Barnes - Vocals
Phil Small - Bass
Don Walker - Keyboards
Steve Prestwich - Drums
with special guest Dave Blight on Harp
that 2nd singer is jimmy barnes, he is rock royalty in australia, welcome to one of australias greatest bands
Should check out their version of Wild Thing from their Last Stand tour of 1983.
Aussie pub rock at its best 🇦🇺
Awesome reaction, what a brilliant song ❤❤❤
That performance is a 10. As said below Wild Thing (Troggs) live takes performance and song to 13.....
From Last Stand concert. Guaranteed 100 percent enjoyable from the band's younger days.
Makes you wish you were there, for sure!
Epic.
Ian Moss (Mossie) the guitarist wrote this song.
Welcome to the Gods of Aussie rock.
Old mate this is a song about the dry season turning into the wet season in the top half of Australia and living away from it knowing it's happening. Unless you've experienced it you don't get it. Come over and experience it!😉
As a Aussie who watched their whole career back in the day they were true class...all the way
Love the last verse, 1 week 2 weeks maybe even more, piss all my money up against the dam wall 🍻👍😎
Exactly Brother.
Barnsey and Chisel - solid Aussie staples 👍
Next one, When the War is Over, 2003 live.
Love your reactions man. You can tell there’s music in your blood
Great old Aussie rock 👍
Best rock band ever in my opinion. Check them out performing “when the war is over” from this same gig live Ringside 2003 next please
Once upon a time, there where two types of music.
Barneys and Farnesy in the 1980's. ha ha👍
I am a Cold Chisel fan. Here is a (relatively) brief synopsis:
Cold Chisel were/are one of Australia’s greatest rock n’ roll bands.
Classic oz rock/pub pand from back in the day
Rockin on 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
This band played my school social (formal) in Adelaide, South Australia 🇦🇺 back in the 70s. A year or so later they didn’t need to play school socials. Band lineup…….. Ian Moss (Guitar/Vocals), Jimmy Barnes (Vocals), Phil Small (Bass), Steve Prestwich (drums/percussion), Don Walker (Keyboards), David Blight(harmonica)……. Songs were written by Ian Moss, Don Walker, Jimmy Barnes and (the late) Steve Prestwich……. Super talented band !!!
Welcome to "Cold Chisel".
😀😀😀😀😀😀😀😎🌏🪐🌕🙏🌸🇦🇺😎👣🦋🍂🏡🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Oh god, I'm really showing my age now😂😂👍❤️🇭🇲🇭🇲
Most of Chisel songs are explosive…
Ian Moss- guitarist & vocalist
Jimmy Barnes- vocalist
Don Walker- piano & songwriter
David Bliath- Harmonica
Phil Small- bass
Steve Prestwich- drums
Chisel was invented when the members were 16+…most of them had a common thread of poverty, hunger, abuse and neglect.. some exposed to domestic violence and abandonment… mostly Jimmy… adversity bought them together and the need to belong saved them… they survived the small halls, bikie taverns, rough outback conditions.
🇦🇺
Welcome to Australian music 😊😊
Best reaction yet😂!!
The piano player has just released a new ablum!
Those who don’t believe Barnsey is Australia’s greatest ever singer believe Farnham is the best singer ever.....worldwide.
any cold chisel is worth a watch
Cold Chisel lead guitarist Ian Moss soloist Now plays county rock
Yeah there's just so much good stuff here going on all at once. It took several listens to really get a grasp on what what happening. A bunch of people at the very top of their game
