  • Lately I pretty much inhabit whatever area of Japan my odd jobs take me to! This week we're in Yokosuka. This video takes you through my favorite [affordable] haunts around the area, how i make money while I am in between stable jobs (hint: facebook marketplace) and hopefully helps you get to know Yokosuka, me, (and my spending habits) a little better.
We're in Zushi for dog sitting next week- stay tuned!

I used to live in Yokosuka too. Miss Japan and its people. Recognized a couple of streets. Long to return, preferably as a resident!

I arrived in Yokosuka winter of 95 and left winter of 2013. I really enjoy my stay in Yokosuka and your video upload send me down memory lane. I was a young sailor in 95 and the way I memorized the Yokosuka-eki kanji is thin-man, fat-man watching tv, pot on-top of an oven :P

I’m so glad you enjoyed! I have to come up with all kinds of crazy associations to remember kanji but that makes it fun. :) you’re lucky to have been here so long! Any recommendations for things to do are welcome!

@@usedgucci9604 good heavens! please don’t start with me on back alleys, shady stores, and chu hi stands 🤣🤣🤣 I’m just being silly. I’ve been all over Japan. Stationed in Sasebo, Atsugi, and back to Yokosuka. I now lived in Vegas, but Japan is my hometown. I’m just waiting for this no tourist thing at Narita to go away. Yes, i will give you some recommendations let me go back to my old cheat sheet 👍

I know you love clothes in a bargain that is very admirable and takes a lot of discipline. I’m a shopaholic myself and Tokyo Ginza is my stumping ground. I recommend you and your husband should check out hankyu men at yurakucho and isetann men at shibuya. Don’t need to buy anything just walk around 👍
Visit tokyo midtown and roppongi hills both have great food shops in the basement and close to hardy barracks by the star and stripes printing office. Tokyo taxi drivers call it asakusa press. Try the pastries at echire in maronouchi brick also walking distance from yurakucho station. Yurakucho is in yamanote line.
7-11 is my pantry and they have seasonal food and the more’s grocery by yokosuka chou the bentos go on sale at 7pm 20-30% off. Well most groceries does that cause they don’t like throwing food away. Lawson fried chicken is better than 7-11, but the winter oden is good at 7-11. I guess, you already visited the yakitori stand by the alley? And of course, you cant go wrong with the 100yen store.

You had me until you said family mart fried chicken is better than 711s. Blasphemy. 🐔

    Hate Japan so far
    I’m here on pcs order
Fought tooth and nail to get my wife in my orders, just to be told she cannot join me due to her medical history, she had anxiety almost 10 yrs ago and now I’m here alone. This is the worst experience I’ve had in the military over 10 yrs of serving and I think this might be my last one.

Hi Justin, I’m really sorry you’re going through this. Thanks for sharing; you’re definitely not alone in having a difficult time in Japan. It can be a really isolating experience. Base fitness classes, MWR trips, and the Facebook groups can be great ways to find support systems. Please let me know if I can help in any way!
