I was never good at Seoi Nage and now my Sensei is making me do it and unfortunately I fail miserably. I hope your instructions will help. I think my foot placement was a problem as I was going in instead of across thus having problems turning ( pivoting). Thank you for your very detailed and insightful instructions 👍🥋🙏
I saw a Kodokan video that indicates the normal ippon grip is wrong and shows that you put their armpit over your shoulder. Is this the correct formal technique? I’ve always been told not to do this as you can hurt uke’s shoulder. If this is the correct then why do they change the technique for kata?
Hello Rex, the Kodokan video reflects the Jujutsu method of Seionage. Seionage is a Tewaza, so you pull the uke over rather than lift with the hips. The Nage no Kata way is pretty close as you lock their arm in the crook of your elbow and also pull uke over. Change, we’ll many waza were modified from their Jujutsu roots.
Insightful, deep, functional and funny. I think I found my new favourite judo channel.
We appreciate hearing that greatly, thank you for watching!
Awesome to see the origination and why behind this throw.
Thanks Kevin, glad you liked it! Every Wednesday is kata night so there will be a lot more of these coming down the pipe!
Allá your videos are awesome sensei, thanks, greetings from bolivia.
¡Muchísimas gracias!

You're very welcome Taras! Stay tuned, much more to come :)
It takes a thousand times to learn the technique and ten thousand times to polish it; patience and never give up. Riki yori
