As someone who lives in Australia with wild parrots in my garden all day, every day, I can confirm 1 parrot can be quite loud but 40 parrots are louder than a jet engine. Add in cicadas and you genuinely need ear plugs to be outside 😂@briannam2329

Congrats! And you are so right…sunlight entering a house is one of the most important things for me! I learned that a long time ago when I lived in a space facing north. I was often sick and just kinda never felt like being in there because it was so dark. Sunlight is so healing and it cleans a space!

It's interesting because I live on the other side of the world and it's backwards: north = good, south = dark

Thank you for this. You have shared a valuable experience of buying a home. The few points that house buyers should take from this is:
    1. Have a realistic list of what you want in a house before you view and adjust it as you go along.
    2. View houses to understand what you really like and dislike.
    3. Stay within your budget and be firm about how much you want to spend.
It’s weird how you “know” if the house is the right “fit” almost immediately after you enter.

Make sure that you have agreed that the house is taken off the market to avoid another offer being accepted. Estate agents are breaking UK law if they do not put forward any offers to the vendor, even when your solicitor has received a draft Contract and conveyancing is well underway. The same applies if you have a mortgage valuation already done and finance in place. Nothing is final until contracts are exchanged.

My partner builds custom houses in the US and it’s is so interesting to see how houses are built elsewhere and what is considered acceptable for building code and condition during sale.

We thought about this when we started the renovation of our house! It’s so weird to think houses are mainly built out of wood in the US when we’re having to remove bricks and gravel from under our floor boards 😅

“We wanted a renovation project”… “it didn’t have any greenery”. You can easily take up paving slabs and create a beautiful garden. It’s so funny how people say they want a renovation project but actually just want to pay for someone to redo a bathroom!

Interesting video thank you. I moved from Surrey to Norfolk eleven years ago. Prices do differ so. I used to live in a mid terrace, which when I moved out was valued at 200k now fifteen years later it's valued at 400k, it's a mad world. I honestly don't know how young people can get on the ladder. On saying that my son recently purchased a home, he did have to move out of the area, he's over the moon with it😃. He had two other properties which fell through, so third time lucky. I'm in Australia, and my sister and I probably looked at hundreds of houses over two years, so getting a house after only 10 viewings sounds pretty good haha. Our Saturdays were usually full of inspections. We also tend to have live in-person auctions more often than private sales which can be stressful but at least it's more transparent.

Interesting. My back garden is south facing, allowing me to have solar all along the back roof, and not only does the front never get direct light (the entry juts out beyond front lounge blocking the bit of morning light it might get), but I've painted it a warmish chocolate. Meaning, I ran with the dark feel. The dining room faces south and so I also have a darker paint in there (a rosy terracotta) though it gets very bright. I love the dark front lounge. It's so calming. My last home had a bright living room. I've liked both. But after having all of the living space save for a dark front bedroom being flooded with light, I welcomed a home with a dark front bedroom (guest room) and living room. I had to renovate the gardens, the ensuite and main bath, a loo on the first floor, new flooring upstairs, new carpet on the stairs, and new hall and kitchen floor tile (in addition to a full paint job, new light fixtures, new door handles, new windows and doors). I only saw one home that didn't require more renovation (meaning it was well finished and immediately liveable) and that home was just too wee... everywhere. Was not excited to be renovating my third home in a row, but I'm staying put.

Trees generally are an asset to an area, they can be maintained much cheaper than removing, once its gone its gone and takes all the wildlife and benefits away, such as flood prevention & privacy. That tree looked healthy & cared for, it had been shaped & it looked like it had been trimmed, it would've been a travisty to rip it out, so glad you didn't buy the house, lol.

    • @averpaula

    • @nataliekeane8944
      @nataliekeane8944 Місяць тому +2

@jojojes 1352 You are correct. Having trees in areas has been shown to add thousands to a houses value. Of course there are always people that are anti tree and won't see any benefits but there's a reason why affluent areas have tree lined streets and crappy areas don't! In Australia councils are madly trying to encourage the planting of trees and every major city is trying to increase tree canopy! Such a shame people only see negatives with trees and not the many benefits to us, the wider community and wildlife!

Just randomly stumbled over your video and it reminded me so much of my own situation. Only that I viewed around 30 properties lol. I wanted a bungalow and a large garden, and a bigger than average living room. Hard to find, especially with a similar budget to yours :) Took ages, then the most amazing property came up, finally. A huuuge garden. I put an offer in, they asked for 5k more (5k under asking still), I accepted, they agreed. Then the next day someone knocked at their door, offered more, they accepted. Even though I offered more again, they still went with the other person :( So rude. The market really slowed. I found a house in the end, not a bungalow though. Not my dream home either (I was looking for my forever home), but had A LOT of things I am looking for. Bit over budget, but still doable. I am in the middle of the process currently, and also selling my current home (Shared Ownership).
Anyway, I can definitely relate to how the criteria changes with every house and how important viewing them is. Some look a lot better than the images, some a lot worse (my partner actually fell through the floor in one - with his foot only though.. But wow). Gardens are a hit and miss with angles the pictures are taken, it is really amazing lol. Definitely an experience and a wild ride lol. And sorry for the essay :D

If you keep the tree you might regularly need to do a basic health assessmentment but that' s fairly easy, it' s simply a case of looking for things like damage or excessive rot which might lead you to calling in a tree surgeon. As long as its relatively healthy, and not damaging the house I' d keep it. Id love a garden tree! Luckily we have them at the back of the house.

We had find a new home fast as we had a cash buyer who needed to move fast. Of the 10 houses we set to view 4 of them we never made it past the front door as the obviously faked agents photos were shown up on the day. Never understood why they even do it. Sellers need to take better control when selling their property and the details provided. Remember Estate agents are working for you. One agent even tried to sell us a home they no longer had seller’s permission to do so. We finally found our new home and bought it privately from the seller who was so dissatisfied with his estate agent’s unprofessional actions. We had a list of measurements of furniture we were bringing with us so we could see if they would fit. Never buy a home with large trees within 30 ft of the property, as roots can destroy your foundations and if it will cast shadows over the house especially in the winter. The kitchen layout and appliances left should be checked. My number one hate is under counter ovens. They are so unpractical from getting items out of the oven to cleaning. Eye level are so much easier all round and more safe to the user. Open plan living might look good but it done for a reason. It’s to hide the fact how small the house is, the one of the many failings on new build house designs today. Definitely don’t buy a home with no outdoor access from front to back gardens as getting anything through the house will always be a nightmare.

When there's a row of houses all joined together then anything with a house joined on both sides is a mid-terrace. The ones on each end are (unsurprisingly) referred to as end-terrace and usually considered the better option since you only have one adjoining wall and often extra space/land on the other side.

How I laughed, all that fuss about a parrot and not a word about the next door garden being totally occupied by a trampoline 😂 having gone through with our third house purchase that took nearly 9 months to complete, seems your problems were really minor. Also I would be horrified if any of the viewers of the house we sold would get out their phone and film a video...which later they could use in this way. Did they get notified about the filming?

I do get why they do it, but it’s so frustrating when you turn up and it doesn’t look great in real life. Weirdly the house we bought had the complete opposite problem; the photos were horrible online but it looked amazing in real life 😅

@@averpaula That's a relief. I went to one I was SURE I'd buy--it was across from a dump! [UK tip] and next door to a falling down structure! I'm not kidding!

Such whiplash lol. “We want a house that needs renovations and absolutely no mid terraces! Jk, we don’t want renovations we only want to do cosmetic updates and also we will look exclusively at mid terraces.” Congrats on the house though, it looks super cute.

You should read some of the other comments here, many people have horror stories of living near a parrot. You also have to remember that you didn’t see any of the houses in real life, property images can be very deceptive :)

Why did you think you had to remove the tree in the first garden? Tree roots can be problematic, but people seem to be hysterical. A tree at the end of a garden is so unlikely to cause problems with foundations. Anyway, bored now. Stopped watching after your moaning about the parrot.
