Built his body up the right way, gaining weight slowly. Best technical thrower on the tour. Absolutely has that junkyard dog in his eyes: I LOVE how much he HATES losing. This was such a fun Basho to watch. Couldn't be happier for the guy. Congrats to our NEW Yokozuna!
You can see very clearly how versatile Hoshoryu is. He's great at combining nage skills with yori, a consummate belt technician. He also can push and use the nodo-wa, usually at the start of a bout. He doesn't use hikiotoshi much, nor hatakikomi. He's physically stronger now than he was a few years ago.
@Walukan nage are throwing techniques that incorporate head, arms or belt. Nodowa is a vicious throat thrust. Yori maneuvers are basically frontal push or crush outs. Hikiotoshi is a hand pull down and hatakikomi is a slap down.

I thought Hoshoryu looked awful in September when he started putting on a ton of weight. But he turned that mass into muscle real quick and now he’s winning in tons of ways.
Yes, I was surprised to see how he had gained size & muscle! I am a fan. If he gets the promotion as seems likely, I hope he has a good career as a Yokozuna
His athleticism, strength, and mental toughness has served him well. He is still very young and will still develop more nuanced tactics, skills, and efficiency. You will see him dictate pace more comfortably and have a controlled dominance in the years to come. He will be a very good Yokozuna.
4 of those last 5 (not Kotozakura) bouts were just utter domination and so fun to watch. I only started watching sumo in November, but I feel like people might by sleeping on Oho. He found a lot of ways to win in this basho, showing good strength for his large frame.
I’ve been watching sumo for a year. I remember the first time seeing Hoshoryu approach the ring. All I could think was “My God what an arrogant bastard “ 😂. Now I see why❤
Today I watch this Japanese ceremony it's in Japan do I don't understand and I saw two handsome young men with the pink Japanese suit or Japanese custom that onosati and hoshoryu.thats how you suppose to always look handsome and neatly looking ❤❤❤
@АлександрИванов-о8ф6й The Yokozuna Deliberation Committee got together immediately following Hoshoryus win and announced that they were going to discuss it. History has shown that when they let the public know immediately following a basho, it's guaranteed they are promoting the winner. When the interviewer announced the YDC had got together, the crowd erupted and Hosh had a gigantic smile on his face.

I do understand that people are more and more reliant on the youtube NHK channel for content, especially with Natto being harder than ever to find these days, but with their upload schedule being up to 3 days late, I feel I'd be being unreliable if I didn't upload the championship vid within a smaller timeframe than that. I remember one of his matches where he threw his opponent and did a full 180 twirl with one leg. Amazing flexibility and skill.
I’ve got an old vid of his best 2022 matches, so so many throws, he went for it even more back then
Search for the video "the throws of hoshoryu in slow motion", it may be in there. At the very least there are some very similar examples.
