Marvin Gaye Visits Ostend, Belgium: • Video
I bet Dave Stewart has one sick record collection.
the soundtrack to 1984 was brilliant
R.L. Burnside was one of the best musical artists of all time! Huge fan! R.I.P. 🪦
This man knows exquisite music.
Those older English guys know their American music.
I have never been a fan of his music, but what a lovely man. Great taste, I mean R.L. Burnside, Marvin Gaye, The Staple Singers, Gil Scott Herron...and the master Buddy Holly. Good man yourself Dave.
Gil Scott Heron!!! ♡♡♡
It's from a Belgian documentary about his visit to Ostend in the early 80's. You can see the whole film on UA-cam. We've added the link to it in the description.
Amoeba have you ever considered doing What’s in My Bag with hDave Wakeling of the English Beat? He has a great mix of influences from interviews I’ve seen.
Nice!!
Have you ever asked Courtney Love , Joan Jett, Karen O or Meg White to do a What's In My Bag ? video ? I'm a fan of all these Rock Icons, from London UK.
Love Dave and his music, all Eurythmics, still 1990s, and very good to see. Enjoyed, thanks. Good taste.
I have watched a lot of these videos and this is by far the best one yet.
Eurythmics have been a favorite of mine since I first heard Sweet Dreams and Dave Stewart's work as a solo artist and also a producer is without peer.
Fun Fact: Mississippi John Hurt worked as a farm hand for most of his life, while only playing guitar only after his work was done during the day.
I just adore David, what a talent this man is...a legend beyond legend
You are excellent Dave! (Same thing with me..I have to get the same music over and over again.Classics never get old...it s for forever)
The Eurythmics were awesome, they were alternative before the term alternative really existed. Made some classic songs for sure, give them their due... 👏
they were not alternative, maybe for one record. They were a pop band
@@Captain_Rhodes sorry, but five of their albums that were released during the 80s were fairly experimental, despite the (deserved) hit aspect of some of the songs... they were smart players first and foremost; although they never quite fitted into any of the 70s movements, they found their ideal home experimenting in the aftermath of punk... like many of their contemporaries, they became part of the establishment and ruled the pop charts, yes, but Eurythmics were in many ways essentially a leftfield duo with the esquisite ear for a catchy melody, placed within a fairly avant-garde setting... adding to it their many b-sides that audibly testify in favour of the experimental side of things... Collaboration with DAF, Can, Green of Scritti Politti and Chris & Cosey do add to the fact Eurythmics were more than just a "pop" band... successful commercially yes - but just as daring and definitely pushing the envelope. Annie's gender bending tactics were definitely subversive and in that, pretty alternative... Most of the collaborators throughout their career (be it musicians or producers) came from the underground music scene.
@@antunivanovic ok well to me they were pop apart from the garden album which was quite indie electronic. They had some on that stuff on later records but it got less and less with be yourself tonight etc. My comment wasnt a criticism. I am a fan. I thought Annie Lennox looked amazing, like a white grace jones. I didnt say pop as a put down, its just how i hear them
@@Captain_Rhodes no worries, I never said you were criticising... I just feel that people take Eurythmics too lightly most of the time, viewing them as a pop act per se... as said, they were commercially successful but they were fairly independent in most of their output (recording, production wise, etc.) which fairly places them in the independent league... show business aside, "Be Yourself Tonight" is one of their albums they recorded (again) independently, away from the commercial studio, on their own... The word "alternative" these days may also seem a bit overblown because people still tend to use that tag in the context of groups like Bauhaus, or say, The Jesus And Mary Chain... What was once "indie", had long become the establishment... And no, "In The Garden" wasn't "quite indie electronic"... it was underlined with synths, yes, but in many ways it is their out-on-out electric album with a cold, quiet feel - and with avant-garde leanings, considering who they worked with on it... Definitely stands out from all of their other discography, I agree... a masterpiece alone in its full glory. But considering how they pushed the envelope and tempered with the establishment of the times, Eurythmics, among many others at that time, WERE essentially "alternative"... their commercial success is only a suitable reward, paying off for all their innovation and all the hard work.
@@antunivanovic I dont take them lightly, well sometimes I do. But i dont put them in the same category as a band like Take That or something who are obviously pop. I take your points. My personal definition of pop includes bands like the cars and blondie who I also have a lot of respect for musically and intellectually. My version of pop isnt boring is what im saying. But yea if someone tried to compare them to a band like Take That (who i dont despise completely) I would be on your side
Thanks for this. Amazing session in studio.... this is gold!
Damn, how could you not blow a ton of money at Amoeba....Dave's a legend....
I hope that the new gens will learn how effin' awesome this guy is.
Glad you included an image of R.L. Burnside's 'First Recordings'. When it comes to his acoustic playing that's by far the best album to get. The sound quality is incredible.
I LOVE IT!!!!!! HIS TASTE IS EVERYWHERE.
I love these.
R.L. Burnside RIP 😎
Dave knows what he is talking about.
Bought Robert Johnson in a record store in France, hey I buy music not souveniers!
Real cool and talented guy.
i met him and Liam Gallagher when i worked in a video shop in surrey.Nice bloke
I met Scott Walker, Billy Bragg, Brian May and Robin Gibb when I was a shop manager in Kensington High St. in the mid 1990's...but the nicest person I ever served was Bob Geldoff. A really really sweet man, very self effacing and down to Earth. I helped him pick out some wrapping paper and he was so grateful. We are all flawed when it comes to the right wrapping paper. Brett Anderson on the other hand was a painful human being to be around....such is the life of the shop assistant.
I met George Michael in a men's toilet. Top bloke.
@@nathanbellamy3308 😂 👍
I LOVE THIS GUY ALREADY....HIS PICKS ARE DOPE AND INTERESTING!!!!!
Seems like a great guy
And now that he mentions it you can really hear both DAF and Marvin Gaye in Sweet Dreams...
i wish record/cd stores ccame back
Good luck with that. People unfortunately no longer want to pay for music. A whole entitled generation expects to have it for free. Which is the end
I feel like Marvin is one of the most underrated artists ever. Obviously, everyone knows who he is, but I don’t think people realize how great he was, and how much great stuff he made.
No, Marvin Gaye is not, nor has he ever been, underrated. Maybe this doesn't mean much to a younger generation, but "What's Going On" was picked as Rolling Stone magazine's best album ever, supplanting, finally, "Sgt. Peppers." Now that was an overrated album.
@@johnfulmer4058 You’re telling me The Beatles - ‘Sgt. Pepper’ is an “overrated album”?
In what possible way do you think Sgt. Pepper is overrated?
That just made my day 😎
Wow!!! I wanna buy those records, or just put 'em all on my Spotify playlist. Watching from London UK.
Jeesus tapdancing Christ. I had no idea that Dave did that film. I wondered who would ever step up to record these guys for posterity. I know that Clapton collaborated with a few, but man. That night with Dave and Junior is fantastic. I've watched that video a hundred times. I didnt know about Junior until Chulahoma, unfortunately. Man, that guy is also a gem. I hope there are still a few people left that enjoy those type of blues as much as I do and refuse to let it disappear. Thank you Dave Stewart and the others that try to share and keep it alive. I think the Sam Chatman video is up to 3.5 million hits now. I have hope.
RL Burnside....track ‘it’s bad you know’ just bloody awesome....and a great Northern Soul anthem...what more could you ask for ..
Love that song.
Another saxon, brilliant
nice selection, this man have a nice taste
There’s a lot of sentiment that older music is so much better than recent music, and it’s hard to argue against that when you see someone like Dave Stewart displaying his scholarly music history and knowledge, contrasted to some kid who this week arbitrarily wanted to be famous and put some nasally sounding rap-whine over a crappy set of “beats” he downloaded off a dubious website for 99 cents and recorded into his iPhone.
My favourite music is similar to Dave Stewart! Anything from Lou Reed to Fleet Foxes and then back again to Joni Mitchell! I wish I collected more vinyl! But I don't have enough room to put it in! I love jazz and my favourite is Miles Davis. I particularly, like all the jazz artists and like 60s psychodelia! ask well as all the best music from the 90s! Not so much mainstream stuff, but more edgy music! Peter from Southport
All of the above... Amen, brother.
Very interesting.
Sure is right your sing here comes the rain is very alike Motown-I wish. It would rain👍
Not shy about name dropping anyway
good taste
Interview Mike Myers so he can say “it’s IN MY BAG BABY!”
Haha the first 6 seconds is like he's just been stopped by store security!! :D
Him, Jeff Lynne & Ian Hunter must've emerged from the same dimly lit northern English cave because I've never seen any of 'em w/out sunglasses. This is not a criticism. Okay, I know Jeff & Ian are from the midlands but still north of southern England. Again no negativity here I dig all things English, cave-like, sunglasses, & music.
will revolution be on UA-cam?
Dave is a Sunderland lad.
I got the marvin on the v h s tape cool 1
No pinches mames, acabo de agarrarle respeto infinito a Dave.
Whats the name of the first song playing. Sunny Day? Can't find it anywhere.
'I Got Love' by Dave Stewart (featuring Joss Stone) from his 2012 album "The Ringmaster General"

Thanks mate!
What's the song that starts playing at 6:14?
Pra Emotional Rescue by The Rolling Stones
Can someone tell me the label of the shades he is wearing....
Daniel Ps : Persol from Italy
GIL.. SCOTT... HERON.. that is all
The coolest token creepy-silent-shade-wearing-side-man of a duo who is usually vastly over-rated as a solo-artist, ever!
Like Kane I've never heard someone be complimented and totally trashed all in the same sentence! tell me, what have you done with your life??
@@vinylcity1599 Like Kane never replied to your message.
Is this Dave Stewart or Ringo Starr ?
What is Dave Stewarts bag? Herion I would think
Fantastic Choices- I guessed to myself before we saw his choices that he would have great well motivated one's and I was right. The point being that others, including those whose music I prefer, for example Dave Gahan of Depeche Mode one of my favorite bands, and his friend would have terrible choices and poor motivations 'I already have had multiple copies of this before' while arguing that it is the album COVERS that are his motivation not love of the music itself which comes off as shallow and materialistic ('I collect cars because I want one of everything') and superficial- Take Mayham's Jorn and Fenris who have excellent choices as a counter example but whose music I like less! Weird!
Sorry. The night with R.L. Fabulous.
Does he sound like Ringo Starr to anyone else?
The thing about Dave I envy the most is he shared a bed with Annie Lennox. So fine.
I wonder which one of them had the biggest dick
Annie: Sweet dicks are made like these. *Boing!*
I thought I was the only one who had "Sucking in the 70s" by the STONES
Saw the Thumbnail with Lou Reed and already I'm out...
I made it to 6:45 before the endless plugs for Dave Stewart's own projects reached saturation point. Next!
it's like advertising a product that nobody wants
Dave Stewart, the man who would have been the next Phil Manzanera if he weren't simply crap.
nice selections but kind of a name dropper.
@Simon Simon - I do hope that’s true…👍😆
Let's make this episode about me...I love me.
So true. Stewart seems a wanker
Old stain
vodka what a drunk
I can’t take anyone serious when they put Lou Reed in their bag.

Boring.
