These conversations are what employers need to be listening too and putting In place adjustments to help women in the workplace. I believe we are some of the most hardest workers in the workplace.
I have suffered terrible migraines the day before and the day after my period. I have started taking magnesium vitamins for 5 days before and 5 days after. For the last 3. Months I’ve had no headache at all. I sooooo hope it lasts.
Judy is bang on. I got taught all about periods at school, why we have them, when we have them etc, but not one word about the pain you can experience. I started mine in my early teens and was climbing the walls in pain. I felt dizzy, headaches and the cramps were unreal. If I dare have a day or two off school id get in trouble when I returned. GP just kept sending me away with paracetamol!. It wasn’t until my thirties that it settled down. My own daughter even had a teacher tell her to just “get on with it” when she told her she was in pain at school. If it was any other medical condition which was causing pain it would be a different reaction !!!
I used to be physically ill from chronic period pain, and now after 9 years of peri menopause and two D&Cs in one year, I’ve been told that I have a heart shaped malformed uterus, which because I’ve never had children I had no idea I had. One of the symptoms of this condition is very painful cramping in the teenage years, to all women young and older, don’t just accept it as straight forward pain, go to the Doctor because otherwise it’s so debilitating!
So pleased these conversations are happening the shame I used to feel durning my cycle meant I ignored the pain which turned into anemia caused by fibroids
I'm 54 and suffered from severe period pains from the start of mensuration. My mother and sister didn't have any problems but they were both very sympathetic. My mom took me to the gynecologist who recommended birth control. That really didn't help but at the time that was the only thing offered. I never once missed a day of school or as I got older a work day. It was awful. I wish I had felt that I could take a day to lay in the bed, sit on the toilet or sit with a heating pad. I remember in the 7th grade a PE teacher (female) said she didn't want to hear one word about periods and cramps. She said to get over it. It's a fact of life. It was awful. I remember being in that PE class with a tampon, and 2 pads on hoping that I wouldn't leak before the hour was over. It was degrading and humiliating.
That's horrific to go through! Hopefully things are a bit better for you now. Such a shame that things don't seem to have shifted so much in the education system since then. Hugs to you 🤗
I used to get severe period pain when I was younger, to the point I’d be bedridden for 2 days every month. Thankfully I don’t get pain anymore but it was horrendous back then!
I passed out twice from the intense pain. I was then put on the pill for years but that has caused migraines now so I can’t use that anymore. So now I have migraines, days of period pain and a hormone imbalance. It’s exhausting and hard to work.
Growing up my period was quite normal. But as I hit 30 I developed fibroids and my periods every month leave me bed bound for 4/5 days. I bleed for 13 days and am having regular iron infusion. Been taking 2 days off work every month due to chronic pain and heavy bleeding and been referred to OH. The exhaustion I suffer from is at another level. It is a vicious cycle.
I used to suffer terribly I used to have heavy periods then the menopause came that was horrendous pain killers didn’t always I went on the pill that helped a bit but I am so glad I get periods anymore
I’m autistic and I have suffered with my periods (pain, heavy bleeding, migraines, sinus pain, diarrhoea, heartburn, nausea, dry-heaving, projectile vomiting, etc) since I started my period at age 11. I’ve tried different doses of the birth control pill one of which worked for a few years and painkillers don’t help. I’ve never really been taken seriously for it and have been made to feel bad for taking a day off because of my period. I’m currently trying to get an appointment with a gynaecologist which isn’t easy.
I am autistic as well and handle it very rough. I have to leave work early every first day of my period and it makes me feel guilty but I can't wait to see a doctor about it
Hi. I have fibroids and bad pms. I feel horrible 2 weeks before my periods. Even as a teenager, I had bad pms symptoms and heavy periods. My symptoms can make me bed bound sometimes. I've had to now see a gynecological doctor in my late thirties. I would like a hysterectomy.
I have suffered every month with it.....the first 3 days is awful, backache, stomach ache and constant exhaustion....never told anyone at work because felt they wouldn't understand....going into work then was such a massive effort....it's exhausting going through it every month.... Even with taking extra iron supplements
I have suffered since my teenage years and unfortunately have had to work through the pain. Sometimes I struggle to walk but company sickness triggers makes it hard to say I’m not fit enough be in work so we all work through the pain. It’s definitely a taboo taking days off because of the pain
Have a retroverse uterus (like my Mum) and had terrible period pains. The pill helped but one GP even suggested I have a baby! Lots of painkillers and the last few years before menopause, 2 day migraines every month. Menopause has been a completely different thing...the rare hot flush, not much else.
Women are not encouraged to talk about their period symptoms, which why so many medical conditions go undiagnosed. When women do speak up about their symptoms we're often disbelieved, and dismissed.
I still have bad period every month and never taken a day of from it. My period pain is not just one day but at least 3 days so, can’t afford to take a day off.
i have a (totally unfounded but still) theory that there are a significantly higher number of women dealing with severe, chronic period pain and generally negative symptoms (mental health problems caused by hormones, for instance) than is understood by medical professionals. I think the longstanding issue of womens health being completely ignored and belittled by medicine has totally destroyed our health over the years. Also, the way most people's workplaces are set up make staying healthy and pain free very difficult. I mean how many sick days does the average person get in a year anyways? It's so limiting and incompatible with the normal ups and downs of human life, but especially women's lives.
Eating banana's pretty much solves the problem. Eat them before your period...you won't have cramps or pains. It's easy. No discussion necessary. If you're experiencing pain after eating banana's, the pain is probably psychological, meaning it's in your head and you require attention. Have a good day.
I think it stopped being taboo a while ago but the behavior persists. Its tough to unlearn things, even when you are aware. It's funny to see people starting to realise: 'why are we still doing this when we clearly know better'? Good conversations to have.
You obviously don't know what chronic period pain is then, if it's as serious as some of us women get then you can't 'just get on with it'. Some of us almost hemorrhage when we get our periods. You don't have a uterus, you don't have ovaries, so no you don't get periods. Some of us vomit, pass out, get serious dizzy spells, I can't move or even speak, I can't think or comprehend what people are saying sometimes because it gets that bad. It's disabling for women with conditions like endometriosis, dysmenorrhea, etc. you'll never suffer from those conditions so stop acting like you understand and passing comments on things you'll never go through. Pumping hormones into your body doesn't create a period, a period is an egg being released. Regardless if you experience slight bleeding or pain, it isn't menstruation.
These conversations are what employers need to be listening too and putting In place adjustments to help women in the workplace. I believe we are some of the most hardest workers in the workplace.
I get bad migraines whilst on my period but I still wouldn’t be able to tell work about it because I worry they think I’m making excuses to not work.
I have suffered terrible migraines the day before and the day after my period. I have started taking magnesium vitamins for 5 days before and 5 days after. For the last 3. Months I’ve had no headache at all. I sooooo hope it lasts.
@@stefaniegalea6810 Thank you for telling me. I’ll have a go with them 😊
I was lucky as I never had any problems whatsoever. Same when I went through the menopause, no symptoms or problems at all.
As a 12 year old I was in pain, agony every month. I had to have time off school. I had it for years and went on the mini pill. That did help.

Had terrible period cramps today, just had to go to my 9-5 job and pretended like everything was fine, even tho I was dying inside.

I had heavy painful periods until I had a hysterectomy at 43 due to them being so bad. It was a painful operation but best thing that I had ❤
Me too , had my hysterectomy at 32 , took a lot of getting over but well worth it
Thank you for discussing this.

I have endometriosis and bad pelvic pain a lot especially on my periods. I'm now Perimenopausal and now I seem to have it constantly.
Thank you. Please speak more about this. This affects my life SO much

thank you for Speaking out about endometriosis I have it thank you for taking about it
Ladies, may I suggest the IUD(coil) for bad periods! Once the body adjusts, it brings tremendous relief!

A trans woman do have chronic period pain, as well! We just get on with it!
If you were born a biological man you DO NOT HAVE PERIODS, just like you CAN’T have babies 🙄

Trans men would disagree with you. They know what periods feel like. Pain is not a competition. You sound opinionated but you don't sound informed.
