I love the donkey rig. The first time I tried it was on a freshwater lake. I hooked and landed 2 bass about 1.5 lbs each. I was sold. I use it fishing the beach periodically. I even caught a spotted eagle ray on the ICW. Very cool.
I use to fish them religiously as a kid, my wife grandfather just moved out of state and gave me his saltwater tackle box and there was about a dozen unopened love lures it was definitely a trip down memory lane I can’t wait to throw one just for the nostalgia
Great tip on the topwater. Many people make the mistake to always work it the same exact way like a walk the dog or walk the dog with a pause, always using the same pattern without trying different retrieval methods and speeds. I went out few days ago and caught many reds on topwater some 28” and the ticket was to cast the topwater and literally reel it back fast across the top in a straight line and reds will chase it so aggressively until they caught up with it. So tip always try different techniques with any lure
Thanks for the tip on the Shelta Hat, been looking for a better sun hat, and they have XXXL (to fit my giant noggin) ordered one of their gaiters too. Agree on the varying retrieves on the topwater, i like to add in a straiggt retrive after a pause, to create a wake before i begin twitching again, amazing how many times they'll explode on the plug on that first change of direction
Red head and white body lures can be amazing. I caught fish in Costa Rica on red and white plugs until the hooks were trashed. And it works around the Chesapeake Bay too.
@@bradleyanderson4315 I use red or orange jig heads with white Gulp Swimming Mullet or other white tails often. They work great for redfish, trout and flounder. Those are my main targets. I like chartreuse tails a lot too tho.
This has been one of my favorite videos boss. Great tips and I'm definitely buying that bucktail by Buggs fishing, and utilizing that crab. Thats donkey rig i feel will work great of some smaller snooks and backcountry tarpon down here in the Glades, and Biscayne Bay.
Nice video, Capt. What is your take on inline spinners verse arm style spinnerbaits? The Aqua Dream inline spinner with the hammered Colorado blade is 🔥.
The old speck rig. Used to be made from mono on a card hung up in every convenience store from here to Padre. Not so much anymore. Your version looks great! Ready for some Corky weather too
@@flatsclasscharters I think it may have been my first exposure to artificials. We always had used live shrimp and a styro popping cork. Then your red head on white. It’s just what you did
Great video as usual CA. Question. On your "trout on demand" rig do you fish it on a spinning outfit or baitcasting outfit? I'm learning alot from your videos. Kerp them coming!! Thank you!! 🎣
Headed close to your neck of the woods next week, gunna spend 5 days fishing St Joe bay, gunna target the flats with a fly a lot but always throw she dogs, in your experience if reds are short striking topwater plugs are wake baits a good switch?
@@flatsclasscharters water that is 3’ and under, 1/8oz ewg, and an unweighted hook for the other. Anything deeper then 3’ , I’ll use 1/8oz and 3/16 oz. 5” scented jerk shadz, in the Houdini color, just freaking works. Also, anyone that hasn’t tried the ewg hook, please do.
Keep it coming CA. Love your videos!

lol who remembers the old love lures? Are they still around? They used to catch sooooooo many trout!!!!! Thx CA
They had an amazing following in Florida waters with dedicated trout anglers

Always looking forward to your videos they're always entertaining and we learn a lot from them thanks for being yourself
Phil appreciate your positive feedback… we try to keep things real here at Flats Class.

They are a classic. I used them 50 plus years ago . The Baby Lucky 13 in that color brought me many bass.

It’s a classic color combination for sure 👍🏼
I’ve been wearing the Shelta hats for a few years now. They’re terrific!
Nice… I think I’m sold on the new version they just launched
Thank You C.A.!

Absolutely 💯 the smaller male snook will swarm the Donkey Rights

Hey CA what are your thoughts on NLBN?

Yes, exactly… that Speck Rig you are mentioning was made by Love’s Lures here in Florida. All my fishing buddies fished it religiously!

Still available around the Chesapeake Bay
What spinnerbait do you use, bullezeye?

David, it can be fished on either casting or spinning gear your preference. And appreciate the nice compliment on the content for this channel.

If they short strike top water lures, I would try 5” Jerk Shads on EWG rigging hooks
Thank a bunch! I’ll give that a try
In south AL, I catch a lot of flounder on the donkey rig.
You using the jig head style or weight EWG hooks?

@@Quazo594vey good info, thanks for sharing my friend
How effective are bucktails particularly for redfish?
Very effective… I used to fish Hank Brown buck tails on the Pro Redfish Tours back in the day
