Weaponsandstuff93 cave diving? I remember it being a lake or river in aussieland with someone linking an article published the next day saying a lake or something caught on fire.
Great tips mate, should help people out and stop them doing dangerous things, I won't be streaming till 9:30pm tonight as need to go up shops at 8:45pm
Answering your doubt, what happens is that the container holds a chemical compound that reacts with CO2 to produce O2, normally this compound can be any Alkali metal peroxide like: Li2O2, Na2O2, K2O2, etc. The reaction is the following: 2Li2O2 + 2CO2 → 2Li2CO3 + O2 As you can see the lithium peroxide (Li2O2) in this case is taking in 2 moles of CO2 and only making 1 mole of O2, this means that form the 100% CO2 gas you are only getting 50% O2 gas, which means that the other 50% is a partial vacuum, thus making the air thinner. Now in days firefighters use Potassium superoxide (KO2) to do the same reaction without having that problem. The reaction is the following: 4KO2 + 2CO2 → 2K2CO3 + 3O2 As you can see, you are getting 3 moles of O2 from the 2 moles of CO2, the air can't get thinner. Hopefully it was helpful :)
I think you can use a GP5 as a rebreather if you attach a hose to it with an oxygen tank. I saw a video where a guy went into a lake with one, it was really cool.
Another great video mate. I have to agree with you regarding the use of IP-4, IP-4m and IP-5 rebreathers for SHTF applications. The rebreather canisters are indeed very dangerous as they contain volatile Potassium superoxide (I think?) My IP-4M has special heat resistant padding on the haversack as the reaction can cause temperatures up to 40C. It all sounds a little dodgy to me. Russian rebreathers are great for collecting but NOT for prepping. Best wishes mate!
Yeah I have an IP-4M with the scrubber unit now as well, video will be up for that soon, I'd only ever risk using it in a proper life or death situation, but for general use, a respirator with spare filters is a much more economical and safer idea.
Very very informative mate TY. I was going to dive ( no pun intended ) into the market of rebreathers for a bugout bag or emergency prepping but this has given me a lot to think about! If I were to get this training, via underwater or gas for a rebreather, what some sort of apparatus what would you recommend? Thanks again mate
Yeah I wouldn't want to rely on a rebreather, making sure you know how to use/maintain a gas mask can be stressful enough, a rebreather comes across as a significantly more stressful/complicated system to achieve the same basic effect.
I have a full nbc suit (including boots) gas mask bunch of filters what else should I get Edit: i should clarify i have the Israeli civilian mask and the abekp filters and a mk IV nbc suit
We breathe in 21 percent oxygen, and breathe out about 17. (Not correcting him, just the numbers) and one question, how well wuld My skills as a scuba diver translate to rebreathers? I did see one unit that used an oxygen tank to replenish the air.
Thanks for that video man! I found a rebreather on Allegro and I thought I'll do some research about them And I stumbled on your video and I'm glad I did!
They recon it was CO2 scrubbers killed the rest of the kursk crew dont they due to water touching it and catching fire and the fire used all their oxygen.
Maybe not Scrubbing CO2 From O2, since CO2 Contains 2 Atoms of Oxygen already, so you might say that it either "scrubs" Carbon from the CO2 which you inhale through the Rebreather, from the Enviroment in which the user happens to be , or you can say that it scrubs Carbon from the CO2 which you exhale and then inhale already, in the form of the O2, with the Carbon being trapped in the Part of the rebreather, responsible for the chemical reaction.
Hey, I opened my wrapped filter which I thought was broken but inside it had some powder in a bag and the usual British black filters... Do those contain chronium or something in them? Mine was made in 1989.
Depends what they are equipped with, most use filter respirators/gas masks, if you have masks that use rebreather systems or air tanks they can also be used.
Mainpoint : get gas masks but use them as collectable items (old ones) dont use them for serious buisness. If you wish to get rebreathers so much i think we all agree you could get new ones and research a bit before using them , besides why would u use rebreathers for diving if you have scuba gear?
I swallowed that assid at 40 feet when my breathing loop flooded. I burned my mouth and throat, spit out my mouthpiece then calmly surfaced and vomited my lunch.
@@complicatedmechanics9599 it was a Sort Kiss. I was at the bottom. Like Clinton I did not inhail. The damage was limited to mouth and throat. I stayed calm because that's built into muscle memory.
big nose mask *edit : so youre telling me that taking out the filter and just running the exhaust pipe from the mask to the intake is a bad idea? damn, who would have thought
Yup, you are right. You would probably not even notice you are about to lose consciousness. At some point you'll mostly be breating nitrogen, feel kinda like you are drunk from the lack of oxygen and then pass out. thats the usual symptoms from nitrogen asphyxiation. In fact, since 2015 they allow nitrogen asphyxiation as a secondary execution method in oklahoma. Was never done before, but it was allowed. In many states they still use gas chambers (almost medival compared to the ones the nazis used), electric chairs or even firing squads for that(Utah (re-)introduced those in 2015). But now they chose nitrogen gas aspyxiation because theoretically that should be pretty humane.
Well, i'd prefer the nitrogen asphyxiation. But their cyanide gas chambers are really bad. Sometimes people don't die after 10 minutes but vomit, urinate and drool instead. The ones of the nazi's took 3-15 minutes(according to the commander of ausschwitz anyway, who should have a big enough sample size), so pretty much no different in time. But at least their gas was odourless and colorless while they literally generate it below the chair in the US rather than just using capsules. Also the one from the US is vastly more expensive, more expensive than the injection even. You'd think they made it any better in half a century.
Nice video. Rebreathers seem a bit dodgy I would be scared to use one even with appropriate training.
If you use a modern serviced one and are trained they are perfectly safe, like most things.
I have a feeling this has some form of reference to the amphibious /k/ommando
Never mind, there is one
If it wasn't a troll that guy could only have been more dumb by deciding to go cave diving in that gear.
Weaponsandstuff93 cave diving? I remember it being a lake or river in aussieland with someone linking an article published the next day saying a lake or something caught on fire.
Alex Gru Ah yes, the amphibious /k/ommando aka the human depth charge
idk what i'm doing lol lol he actually is still alive. There was a thread of him returning if i am not mistalen.
Its currently 4:00 in the morning. I need to be out of bed by 6:30. I should be asleep but instead I'm watching prepping videos, again.
Go to sleep!

Cool only just saw your message, but yeah lots of very dodgy advice is handed out online about these things.

I think you can use a GP5 as a rebreather if you attach a hose to it with an oxygen tank. I saw a video where a guy went into a lake with one, it was really cool.
That's not a rebreather that's a SCUBA, a rebreather recycles air.
using a re-breather for prepping. people who do that deserve a Darwin award
YourMumInHD lol so true
Lots are just misinformed.
i know i was just making a joke
Rebreather is bulky and complicated and I wonder how they expect to find CO2 absorbers in case of emergency
Yeah they are very specialised.
rebreathers are just much more complex, so there are many more cases where it could fail or be misused... a simple respirator is usually plenty enough
I use a valve withba splitter re breather and filter you get more time out of a filter

I got a IP-5 rebreather from some guy in Poland, but honestly I would never actually use it, still cool to have though
Good video, I think I'll stick with gasmasks from now on :)
Yup regular respirators are far safer.
@@Weaponsandstuff93 agreed.
but I'm really unsure about the Avon escape hood lol

Who would win
One IP5 made for chemical warfare or a single water boi
Rebreathers are mainly used for underwater use

If I were to get this training, via underwater or gas for a rebreather, what some sort of apparatus what would you recommend? Thanks again mate
You'd need something modern due to all the risks with old rebreathers, modern diving models have airtight cases for the scrubber unit.
IP5 (Rebreather filter) Takes the price of being more dangerous than asbestos. lol
Asbestos has killed far more people.
I mean in gas mask collecting :)
In terms of prepping, and NBC use, what is the advantages of using a rebreather, over just a standard gas mask?
Yeah I wouldn't want to rely on a rebreather, making sure you know how to use/maintain a gas mask can be stressful enough, a rebreather comes across as a significantly more stressful/complicated system to achieve the same basic effect.

Cool, yeah don't mess around with rebreathers and scrubber units, very easy to accidentally kill or main yourself with one.
They recon it was CO2 scrubbers killed the rest of the kursk crew dont they due to water touching it and catching fire and the fire used all their oxygen.
That would actually make sense.
Great advice buddy

I actually found your channel after trying to research the ip5 after seeing that/k/ thread lol
Interesting.

In the movie mad max fury road immortal joe has a rebreather. Have you seen it and what do you think of it?
Pretty sure that's just a half face mask with two pipes attached to it.

How much did it cost
About £30 or so.
Hey, I opened my wrapped filter which I thought was broken but inside it had some powder in a bag and the usual British black filters... Do those contain chronium or something in them? Mine was made in 1989.
Which mask/filter?
Lots of filters contain chromium.
Weaponsandstuff93 I believe it's the S10 standard filter.
Weaponsandstuff93 should I just throw it away?
What's your opinion on Aquatic commando?
dude I love your videos I learn so much from you soon I will be getting my new ww2 Soviet gas mask
Cheers, but you can't get a new WW2 mask.
(Which I imagine will be a GP-5 from the 70s anyway)
I was going to get a rebreather (not for Prepping) and now I dont want to really
There are some mistakes in this video. Rebreathers aren't that dangerous
If there was an actual gas threat would military forces use O2 or a respirator
Depends what they are equipped with, most use filter respirators/gas masks, if you have masks that use rebreather systems or air tanks they can also be used.

Rebreathers work in deeper water than scuba gear, look up deep divers, they have to use rebreathers as air tanks won't work at certain depths.
Godspeed, amphibious/k/ommando
You mean human depth charge?
only rebreather i got is my diving mask.
Wow, I should not watch these videos before sleep, oh well
A one question what means "prepping"
Or even something "minor" like tornadoes, earthquakes, fires, chemical spills, volcanoes, etc.
thank you guys i appreciate
Can I still use a Rebreather as a prop for my costume?
As long as you don't turn it on and still have access to outer air, it's good to go
