Hi Dave. Shaila is 6 year old (7 on 25 December). She is still playfull (so are the Artis boys), but she's responsible enough. And mom's still there to keep an aye on them ;-)
Hi Cindy T. I love the way N'Gayla pats her darling babies just as we would our own babies. I am new to your videos and have not seen this in gorillas in other videos I have watched before. Simply beautiful.
This is a great video Cindy, you did a wonderful job! I know from watching the Prague gorillas that the other females LOVE the new babies!! And the juveniles want their turns too! I was holding my breath when Shaila was spinning around, hoping the little one didn't get too dizzy!
As long as mom keeps quit nothing will happen I think. I know from the past that when a female screams or makes other irritated sounds, a silverback steps in. The same happened when they were in the back. One of the two (N'Gayla or Shaila) screamed and Bauwi went over there (in a hurry).
Very cute babies the twins is very cute and Shilda try to help so nice of her Mummy try to get back the baby boy Shilda run away very funny Bless all of them . Thank you for your video very good .
I think there's something of an instinct that makes females agree to younger girls to take care of babies and not boys. I think that they know that they have to help to make sure that those girls will be great moms later on in life. Kijivu from Prague also allows the other females in the group to take care of her baby from early on. But Kiburi wasn't allowd to walk around with brother till brother was a few months old (same with kids before Kiburi).
Thank you again for sharing Ms Cindy....that Shaila has taken my heart. she has to be one of the sweetest females I have watched. I enjoy her immensely.
sharon anz She can be a bad girl too! Since both her sister and mom are gone, she sometimes behaves very rough with the young ones. A new home will do her good. One year later than planned she will soon move.
@@GorillaFanNL Yes she always gave me the impression lots of times that she couldn't be trusted. Saw her behave very badly with N'Hasa one time. Nakou had to come save N'Hasa.
Since I didn't want to translate it I looked it up in English and found "Such behavior may serve to improve absorption of vitamins or of nutritive elements made available from the re-ingestion of seeds" I've also heard that they get vitamine B12 out of it.
Wonderful beautiful videos...thank you so much for your sharing them. I wonder if there is going to be trouble amongst them over these precious babies !
Aahhh, I just love watching your videos..please keep them coming. I'm thinking of going to the zoo, to see them myself, as I live on the Dutch border. The shots where the mother is eating poop, that's when I have to look away. Why do they do this? Thank you anyway.
I know the family in Artis Zoo (of course thru videos...) and I know that e.g. Shomari is/was very fond of little ones! But moms SURELY did not let him to touch their babies in the very early period (1-2 month). But certainly a 6 year old girl can be very tender and protective!
Cindy, the twins are a month old already. Can you tell us if they are acting like a month old or are they some behind in what normal one baby would be doing? Thanks for the video's let's see more now that they are older.
Thank you very much indeed for these spell-binding films of N'Gayla n the twins. To my surprise, I'm finding it a very emotional business watching them. I've emailed them around the world.. as have others, I'm sure. I Love how you just let us watch, with just a little helpful narrative of events. Please record n upload more film?? Thank you again :)) [I will subscibe now.]
Cindy, do you work at the zoo? How do you know so much ? Is i normal for babies to be passed around? If one as you said had a baby for a week, how did it eat ? LOVE your videos !
I don't work at a zoo. By observing and talking to keepers I learned a lot. I don't recall saying one had a baby for a week, but they were able to baby sit when the twins were a week old. Mom always came to get the baby after a while. Or the babysitter returned the baby.
Thank you Cindy, I didn't know that...UGH!. My comment was in English, I am English but I speak fluent German.I live in Germany not far from Venlo. Grüße
N'Gayla is a good mom! She keeps an eye open and will intervene when necessary. And this is for Shaila the way to learn about motherhood.

"What do you need two for? One is enough..." *spins away*

sharon anz I will!

Her arms must get tired of holding the babies. It's fascinating to see the interactions of the older ones with the twins.

Very interesting!
Aw, I love Kiji! She is exceptional mum!!!

Great video! This can be dangerous if Shaila thinks that the little baby is just a toy...which moves..!
beautiful video again! Thanks so much for sharing.

Was that dad again trying to help mama get baby back?

Was that the dad behind half sister when mama was getting her baby back?
Wondering if Shaila now has her own baby?
Not that I know. If it had happened, I would've read it somewhere.
@@GorillaFanNL thanks 🌻
