Another great book review/overview Shauna! It certainly is nice to see what these books look like page by page. 😊 Really helps parent out there looking for curriculum to see what is fully inside of a book before they buy it.
Thank you, Holly! I’m hoping this series helps those who are searching for next years curriculum ❤️ I know it’s always nice to have an idea before buying.
Hi! Just curious…have you returned to Masterbooks LA? I feel like this gentle approach is what’s missing from most LA curriculums. Even though TGATB has a great look, they cram so much info on one page! LA seems to be one of those subjects that just needs to be done gently with repetition. For Math though, Masterbooks seems way too gentle for my daughter.
I almost did this year because I felt like TGTB LA was filled with too much geography fluff but we pulled that out and ended the year with TGTB. I’m now weight my options because common sense press and my fathers world.
Thanks for the flip through! I’m starting all 3 of my kids on Living Lessons (levels 3, 6, and 9) because TGATB was so intense for all 3 of my kids. They felt defeated and overwhelmed when they would do a lesson. I’d rather have my kids excel (even if they breeze through it) in the Living Lessons program and feeling confident in their LA than how they felt with TGATB. Plus, I LOVE the Bible aspect. Bible stories and LA combined into one?! Yes, please!
This exactly I feel like not enough ppl point that out. My son is a struggling reader we've gone through so many curriculums that we culd afford the 1 we will keep till the end is explode the code. It works the best for him but need more with it. We've tried tgatb I really wanted it to work soo much. And I loved how it did somethings, but it always felt like we was behind and it was super intensive on the games which r great but sometimes even a stay at home mom just doesn't have the time and would rather to teach the lesson give the worksheet and go on.
Thank you! This was wonderful! I'm looking into MasterBooks for next year and this is very helpful! This video was posted a while ago and I'm wondering if you are still a fan and if your family still uses these books?
HI! I'm so glad it helped you. We used these for second and third grade and did switch to The Good and the Beautiful for grade four. We still love Master Books. In my end of year reflections video I talked a little about why we changed. It was more because I was getting bored. Each book is set up the same way so I just wanted something new and something that would challenge my son in new ways. I will admit though, I have been thinking about going back to Master Books for language arts recently. Not sure on if we will or if we will stick with what we are currently using. If you're looking for a gentle approach to language arts then Master Books is a wonderful curriculum. They're also having a 25% off sale this coming Monday!
Thank you so much for showing this curriculum. I have wanted to see what it looks like. Do you know if they go up to middle school?? May be looking for a new language arts for my oldest.
They go all the way up to high school! My old eats didn’t use their English but did use their economics and biology course and really liked them. If you go on their site you can also get a free preview of whatever book she would need and an assessment to make sure that book would be a good match.
My daughter decorates her curriculum with stickers!!! We love short lessons!!! We do bible journals already at home with a kids devotional!!! We could do with extra spelling practice but we don’t do spelling tests!!! We don’t do bible memorisation as my kids are dyslexic but we do bible copywork as that helps them to remember bible passages!!!it looks more gentle than TGTB and we do skip some parts in the older levels!!! We love creative art projects instead!!!
How do you like TGTB? I’ve been looking at their curriculum and you’re right, Master Books definitely seems more gentle. I’ve been thinking about trying TGTB for next year just to see how my kids like it because I like that it has the art study and my son seemed excited about that but I’m scared it’s going to be “too much” if that makes sense.

So glad it helped and totally agree! We had changed to TGTB and it was personally too much. I hope MB works beautifully for you all 💕
