My son has started an apprenticeship chef role at a Michelin starred Indian restaurant in London. On his first day they showed him how to make the perfect Indian flat bread. He said he can't tell me the recipe though. Apparently he had to sign a naan disclosure agreement.
Another fantastic review, Gary! I always LOVE two things about a restaurant : an open kitchen, and a small, simple menu. I’d rather they do five dishes that are exceptional, rather than 50 which are mediocre. And it makes ordering so much easier. That meal looked delicious. Totally agree with your rating. Cheers, mate!
Hi Gary, as a Sri Lankan-born Australian, I can tell just by looking at the food , that it's exceptional ! I will certainly advise my bro in England to pay them a visit . Thanks for the video.
Seriously, its great to see someone who appreciates both quality and overall value for money, and isn't just looking to strap on a feed bag for the least money. It's almost certainly why you stay in good shape while enjoying all this good food. Keep it up Gary.
Thank you for catering for those of us who enjoy a mild curry that doesn't linger afterwards - we don't all enjoy the throat burn! The two dishes you chose were an excellent representation of what many of us would go for in an Indian restaurant/takeaway. That was clearly a top quality Indian meal produced by skilled chefs, and at around £20 per head, a fantastic bargain. I am always optimistic about the food to come, when the menu isn't vast, as was the case there. The chains (Cafe Rouge, Wetherspoons etc), have enormous menus like a phone directory, because most of the meals are bought-in, eg microwave-in-the-bag boeuf bourguignon, and other such convenience foods. With a tight, no-nonsense menu like that, you can be confident you're getting a home-cooked dinner, prepared from scratch on the premises, just for you. That is a true restaurant experience, well worth paying for - after all, you can just as easily make a Wetherspoons-style chicken-kiev-and-oven-chips meal at home, for a fraction of the dine-out price! I envy the folks who have such fabulous Indian cuisine on their doorstep. If 'Dastaan' does a takeout service too, the locals are really blessed! Thanks for another excellent, authentic and beautifully produced review Gary.
well there are many option available and being an indian ...i would say if you ever plan to visit indian restaurant again..tell your chef to make it littel bit spicy not too much...and i would say vegetarian dishes are way more tastier than non vegetarian dishes...
Wonderful! What a great review! Ingredients cost a fortune. Knowing that, you are right that the price was right! Thank you again for taking us along. Pure joy!!
Never been to either of these restaurants in Epsom/Leeds, but heard many really good things about it over the years! However was meant to go there once years ago after me and my dad went to Epsom Race Course but we got stuck in a lot of traffic and missed our booked table-will def tick it off the bucket list in 2024! Another solid review Gary 😎
Fantastic and accurate review Gary. The GOAT strikes again! You very accurately rated this experience as a 10 regardless of it having a ‘cafe’ type ambience. Totally agree, any restaurant review should be about the food, first and foremost. Let's face it, the surroundings/decor are very much about personal taste - all that really matters is cleanliness, and comfortable, functional furniture! I personally appreciate more low-key, comfortable surroundings like this place, than the more formal style we might expect of a Michelin starred establishment where you can feel uncomfortably under dressed if you pop in for an impromptu bite to eat in your jeans! Good for them, they are serving top quality food, in an unpretentious setting. For me that's a fabulous recipe!
That looked amazing Gary, pure unadulterated flavoursome food and not swimming in cooking oil like some mediocre establishments, good portions and realistic pricing too, what’s not to like??? Even the naans looked freshly cooked btw….

No idea why I love watching the vids,Think it`s the way you`re just being your natural self .One of the best food reviewers I have watched on youtube :)
Yes it's curry time !!! Looks a really nice place. I really appreciate an open plan kitchen. It's very reassuring. I was hoping you were going for a lamb vindaloo. Nice and spicy 😁 Lamb looked really outstanding. Naan looked very good too. Am I the only one that misses the obligatory Brabantia food warmer forming a centrepiece on the table 😂😂😂😂 Quality trumps price for me. It's a 10. Great review as usual Gary.
The next Indian review that I'll be doing will have something very hot in there so this time, I felt going milder was the wise choice. Thanks Andrew, all the best!
You are wonderful and honest! Wish we had these sort of great Indian restaurants, when I'm feeling better, near us in the States! Keep up the Great reviews!
I only discovered your channel a couple of days ago Gary, and really pleased I did. You come across very well. Very genuine, no nonsense reviews on proper restaurants with no fancy theatrical crap. Understanding people just want quality food, decent portions, with a good service, without being ripped off.
Here in the states, we lay the rice on our plate, divided into piles, and add each dish on top of a pile of rice. That way, the rice absorbs the sauce.
That’s how we do it in India too, but in case of naan(Indian bread) we tend to use bowls for dishes containing gravy that way one does not have a messy plate😅
I've commented before that I am not a fan of Indian food but that doesnt mean I can't appreciate another person's point of view. You were clearly impressed by both the quality and quantity and bearing in mind the Michelin connection that appeared to be an absolute bargain. Once again a first class review in your own laid back informative style. 50k subscribers well on the way and very well deserved and earned too
Eating rice by itself or naan by itself without the vegetable or meat dish is sort of like eating bread separately and butter separately. They might be good individually, but the combination of the two is the intention and design (and greatness).
I would heartily recommend throwing in "House specials" into the mix when reviewing Indian Restaurants. Hard to compare by definition, but often these are more traditional gems.
Currently motorcycling through India. The food is amazing here. Especially roadside trucker stops. Two nights ago in Mumbai in a local bar I had half a Tandoori chicken, Aloo Gobi, Garlic Naan, onion salad and a large bottle of Kingfisher for 8 pounds.
Great review Gary, that meal looked superb, lean meat, fluffy rice, not a drop of excess oil in anything. Deserves a 10 all day long. I loved the way your face matched your jumper after nibbling that green devil!😂
Fantastic review, this is fast becoming my go to channel! I absolutely love Indian food, the quality there looks amazing and well worth every mark out of 10.
Just had dinner at Roku yesterday in central London and wow I’m just flabbergasted at how amazing the food was. It’s pricey but what a treat. Would love to hear your thoughts and review on it!
Roku ! For what it is and the price it’s ridiculous ! You paying for the surrounding and atmosphere ! Can honestly say have better taking food from hole in the walls and food trucks !
@@shsh-he5qg I agree with food being great on the streets however, as I said as a rare treat it’s great. You won’t find lamb chops and steak of that quality from a street vendor. If you do then tell me!
@@H2TEN I remember a place some years back, a very busy place on the bridge outside Southall station, I think they had been their since the 60’s !!! They had amazing grilled meats including lamb chops and lamb tikkas , fresh naans and kebabs! It was unreal ! We would go with one of our Pakistani friends and get a load of food and then park up and have a meal out the foil containers which was insanely good, sadly moved away from London. But miss those type of places ! Little hidden gems !
An Aussie here saying thank you for that terrific review. I'll tell you for a fact that I would rather save-up for a while so as to be able to enjoy that Rolls Royce of a meal, than to pay good money for Average Joe tucker. Also thought the camera work was exceptional. It really captured the look and presentation of the meal. Excellent!
A really great restaurant, been there a couple of times with a few colleagues from work. Both times I had the Butter Chicken and the Pork Vindaloo, absolutely cracking. As you say, you pay for quality and from my point of view, worth every penny, I would always prefer paying a premium for quality. Had a few beers as well as I have a colleague who's always drawing the short straw and is driving. Another fantastic review, Gary, keep up the fabulous work! Have a wonderful rest of your Sunday and I will drop you an email as soon as I can. 😊
No problem Frank. I'm glad you enjoyed Dastaan as well - did you find the food gives a little spicy tingle? Found that incredible. No problem, all the best.
@@GaryEats yes the spice level was perfect and that tingle that creeps up on you, is just outstanding. Loved it and the Vindaloo is really great as well, not too spicy, but still with a nice varming tingle. Just an overall great experience.
Now that looks like a real Ruby. The price isn't too shocking. As absolutely always the quality of these videos is totally off the air brilliant. Thanks Gary.
The food looked fabulous, and the naan bread, you really enjoyed the meals, butter chicken, yummy. Great show again. Worth every penny. Incidentally Gary I was reading the comment from ShahidKhan, he is correct, you cannot possibly reply to everyone, you don't have time, too much pressure. You don't have to reply to me, I should imagine others feel the same. We watch because your shows are fabulous, as are you, no pretentions , just Gary being truthful and honest. You were made for this, and we all love watching you. The looking forward to where you are taking us next. Ann
Not at all Ann. I absolutely love reading the comments and replying especially ones with such kind words such as yours. I'm glad you enjoyed the video and will always make time to reply to those who take time out of their day to watch the channel and listen to my boring old voice!
You’ve done it again and found a gem. The sauces looked so rich and creamy - and that lamb was amazing. The prices didn’t seem any higher than a lot of standard places. Wish you kept the camera running for longer when you bit into that chilli tho 🤣.
That is fantastic value for money. Michelin starred restaraunt, beautifully cooked food, £42? You lucky man! I recommended Goda in Ballards Lane to you a couple of weeks ago. Check the menu on line first to see if it is extensive enough for you to pay a visit. On your say so we will give it a try, or not! Gary, you always give me hunger pangs
Michelin Bib Gourmand, not star. However to get that award, your food has to be excellent regardless. It was superb! I will take a look and if I can't review, I'll try it anyway!
Yes, I like an open plan kitchen Gary; it inspires confidence. Tight menu is usually a signature of focused quality :) Just started wathcing... it looks delicious. I hope this measures up...... oh yes! Wow, looks tender and saucy :) Looks like they upped the ante at this Indian. Shame I can't find a good lamb shank/leg here in the Azores or I would be making one tonight! Nice review. PS I don't think 16 for a main is outrageous - I suppose over 20 with the rice or naan. But value and quality.
Hi Gary I went to my Christmas do at Indian room Balham was looked after the same guy who looked after you friendly staff and great food. Thanks again for recommending 👍
@@GaryEats yes was relaxing it was quiet at 2 o’clock. Got the 30% off. There was only two other people on another table then when they left there was a group of about six people will definitely go back there but there is a few other places that I will be going to, and my next restaurant with my Golf buddies on Wednesday is at the crown of Mitcham restaurant
Those curries look amazing as you said good quality food, made my mouth water watching. Price wise I think for that quality and portion size I think it’s good. Excellent review as always Gary.
Another great review Gary. As you said enough for two making it reasonable. The one thing that I can never quite understand is no form of warmer on the table to keep your food hot as it would take some time to work your way down those bowls.
A comparison between the two branches would be interesting. For a change, I would like to see you try some of the fish or prawn curries. Nice of you to share your mint with Oliver Twist there at the end. 🤭
Thanks for another great review! Lamb is my favourite meat but sometimes when I order it at a curry house it can be tough or fatty or full sinew so it’s great to see you enjoy yours! The menu said your rice should be £6 but when you explained your bill at the end you said they charged you £3. It annoys me when I go to restaurants like this or Asian restaurants and they charge a lot for basic sides as though you would just order butter chicken alone!?! I would be happy to go to this restaurant based on your review so thank you for your efforts!
I think the chilli is a garnish. You can optionally cut it and mix it into the dish if you prefer the curry hotter. Not to be eaten whole on it's own 😂 Food looked great
Just to save any confusion with potential customers being recommended here , this restaurant is actually in West Ewell and not Epsom , even though it may say so on their web site , that is just for postal town information reasons .Epsom is at least 2 miles away .Cheers Gary .
Oh yeah… I can even smell it. I’m only a recent convert to Indian food and your meal looks impressive. You made a good point about the portion sizes and for the price two people could have that. Not overly expensive especially for a Michelin star restaurant. 👍
Dastaan in Leeds is excellent but when your up this way Gary you really should try some of the excellent currys available in Bradford great review really enjoyed it
We went to the one in Leeds last weekend. It was absolutely brilliant. We've never seen some of these dishes before. Perfectly clean and very helpful staff. Thank you Gary.
That looks very interesting and a top notch review of an Indian different to the runofthemill - You should try a vegetarian Indian restaurant - totally different and better IMO (most of India is vegy after all ) Have a look at Manju's in Brighton???
Nice rice Worth the price Rogan Josh Great nosh Chicken butter I'll have another Garlic Nan I'm a fan I did notice that they themed the walls on the colour of the butter chicken sauce 😂 As always,a very endearing review filmed down to earth with a very homely style. I was hoping that the camera would turn to see the open plan kitchen😊 Thank you Gary. Onwards and upwards chum.
Great review Gary. The quality of the food looked outstanding and incredible value for money. Really appreciate you sharing with us. Enjoy your presentations 👍👍👍
@@GaryEats My favourite is Rasa in Stoke Newington. It's Keralan cuisine and this is completely different to northern Indian dishes. Always busy at the weekend though.😊
I wish Lamb in all Indian restaurants were so tender as what you had Gary. They can be a hit and miss sometimes when it comes to tender and well over done. This can be from your local restaurant. It's a shame they can't have the consistency of being tender all the time. It can be so disappointing when your working hard on chewing the blooming lamb, not to mention the price you pay. I would love to know why this happens at times?
The food looks supurb,a love a Indian ,thanks bringing your latest review, congratulations you also hitting your big milestone, subscribers, well deserved Gary 👍
Hi Gary I hope you are well… Another great find. Really nice to have another curry as well 👍Like you, we love our curry’s too. Your buttered chicken looked really nice and the lamb! I would have had that!! I know we can’t smell or taste from where we are 😂😂but seeing your facial expressions, brings it to life. It looked so tasty. Even on screen you could see the quality. Another great review Gary. We both said 10 when you started the lamb 😜 Thanks once again for sharing. We can’t wait for your next ‘Let’s give it a go’. Cheers David & Angela
That was a cheap meal Gary for what you had . My best bit is when you ate the chilli as i love chilli's the hotter the better as that was a finger chilli . As i recommend you should try Californa Reaper chilli sausages in Lidl it is one of those when they gone they are gone they are so so tasty with that heat . The best way to cook them is in a air fryer as it is a shame they don't do them all the time . Love the video as always .
@@GaryEats There is a new Indian resturant where i live just outside Bristol . I haven't tried it yet . But in the new Year i will get a take away and if it is any good i will let you know , as i haven't had a decent curry for at least 10 years or more .
Great review as always gary. Simple honest review without the gimmicks . Food looks delicious and you simply enjoyed the food. Keep the reviews coming👍👍
All those curries will be made from the same base sauce. It is the addition of other ingredients that define them as a Korma or a Jalfrezi etc. A good Indian (or probably Bengali) chef will be able to do that with flair and consistency and that is the mark of a good 'Indian'. Portion sizes are generally substantial as the bulk is made up of too much rice and too much sauce, both of which will cost pennies but add pounds to the bill. Leg of Lamb is very often cheaper cuts of Mutton and many restaurants will call that 'Meat' on the menu. Cooked correctly is is a very flavoursome meat and like all meat and poultry is cooked in advance, probably the day before at least and that is why it is so tender and tasty. How often do you hear of people warming a curry the day after and saying it tastes even better? That is because it wasn't cooked long enough the first time around and has had longer for the flavours to develop and incorporate a Maillard reaction. Simple culinary science. I must say your rice looked excellent, the naan not as much. I always enjoy naan much more if it is soft and fluffy and not like a thin 'n crispy pizza like yours appeared to be. Either way, what looked like a very average front of house is undoubtedly serving some excellent fare and I am encouraged to try the Leeds offering as it is closer to home. Thank you for an honest opinion.
Excellent review Gary. I live in Leeds but I haven’t been to Dastaan yet. Based on your review I’ll be going early in the new year. Well done once again mate.
Gary wonderful review. As a Brummie lad from the 60's I grew up on the Balti Triangle spoilt for choice of excellent curry, sadly there are only a handful of Balti restaurants that offer the same exceptional standard of food in my home City. What I loved about this review is your respect for fellow diners, nice touch that you considered they do not want to be invaded with cameras during their meal, I have watched a lot of food reviews and you are the first person to consider the diner that is called respect, and I thank you for that. The meal looked magnificent wonderful base gravy on both meals, the only thing it lacked in my personal view was some vegetables in the base gravy to give it some substance, but that is just my view, the rest was magnificent I tip my hat to the restaurants chef, spot on!
" one thing I really like about this place is they actually cater to vegans" John said something like that. Then " Right I'm going to have a chicken tikka curry and a lamb rogan rosh " or something to that effect.😂 I'm not being critical. It was funny😂
Top quality food is worth the price as long as the service is good also. It was so good, I thought you were going to burst into song you were so happy ! You have found a winner there Gary !
A 9 from me , everything was spot on from the pricing to the food portions , quality and service but let down by the sauce that looked like it had been blended . I'm used to high quality Indian restaurants and lucky enough to have Asian friends that occasionally do some home cooking for me and the one common factor with both is their sauces have texture and you can see the ingredients , makes for a far more enjoyable taste experience. Thanks once more for such an excellent review 👍
Dastaan is a ~10min walk away from me and it's sensational, reminds me of my Mum and Nan's cooking when I was young, no higher praise really. The lamb dishes are incredible but if you go, get the Aloo Tikki Chaat, it's beyond amazing
Hi Gary never commented before you are doing us food lovers a great service keep it going great vlogs. I am a southerner orginally from Kent spent most of years in shirley surrey. And I moved up to south yorkshire ten years ago never looked back the people the food and the cost of living is not as bad as down south love that come up here to do reviews mate
They both looked like amazing Curries here at Dastaan Gary... And at £21.50 for a dine-in Michelin accredited Curry at Dastaan... It's incredible value for money mate... I'm not in London myself... But i can easily pay £15.00 at my local Curry House for my own Curry & Rice... Served with Naan... And as there's no service charge here at Dastaan Epsom either... It's an absolute bargain... It's a no-brainer for giving this place a visit... Particularly for a quality Curry my friend... Personally speaking... My three favourite Curries are... (In no particular order)... Chicken Tikka Masala... Lamb Dopiaza... & Beef Madras... Those are my three regular go-to Curries my friend... And they are all excellent Curries in their own right... But i would definitely love to try a Curry for myself from here at Dastaan now mate... 😋Many thanks for the great review Gary... All the very best my friend... Cheers mate. 🍺

Big fan of your reviews Gary, you’re an honest man and say it as is😊 If you’re ever up North, and in Glasgow, try the Wee Curry Shop, you may just need to award an 11/10 for the very first time!
Thanks Gary I’ll definitely check it out as I was looking for a good Indian to try. It’s worth checking out Micky Mazano’s pizza that’s about 200m from there. It’s won Time Out magazine’s best pizza. If you do go there save some room for the mini canollis.
What a really enjoyable, honest review! That food looked so genuinely good. There was no compromise on quality at all. You were very brave trying out that chilli. Do you ever drink lassi when you are in an Indian restaurant? It is a yogurt drink which really helps digest the food. One of my favourite Punjabi songs was playing in the background at one point. It was nice that they played such well liked popular Indian songs.
The Sheen and thickness of those gravies looked very refined compared with an ordinary local curry house. I agree that quality will come with a higher price but this seemed very reasonable considering the size of the portions. Another great video Gary, please keep em coming!
Another amazing review as always. I always find it genuinely impressive that you resist overindulging especially this time of year! Hope you have a wonderful Merry Christmas and a very happy new year!
Great review as per usual Gary! For a Michelin starred restaurant I would have thought their menu would have more refined items and not standard curry house items. If you really want to try a next level Michelin star Indian restaurant with refined and fancy dishes, you should try Grand Trunk Road Restaurant in South Woodford E18. The innovation and execution there will blow your mind. It's on expensive side mind you but worth it in my opinion.
Yet again I have just got home from a long hard day at work and before dinner I'm watching you eat this meal Gary and it looked delicious - especially that lamb, I could eat bowls of that with a pile of naan's right now! It looked like there was a nice relaxed atmosphere and it's always a good sign when a restaurant has nothing to hide with an open kitchen too. I remember a few weeks ago you mentioned taking on a phaal challenge, well if you struggled with that green chilli I would once again recommend you steer clear of the phaal 😀
Second time of watching this, same result 10 plus, what did we do before we found you, it's given us so much pleasure, we feel like Critics and keep looking for somewhere new so that we can give our comments ,look foward to hear that you are coming to the Midlands, take care , Sheila & Patrick.

Here in the states, we lay the rice on our plate, divided into piles, and add each dish on top of a pile of rice. That way, the rice absorbs the sauce.
Very nice.
50k subscribers well on the way and very well deserved and earned too
Thank you Ian - much appreciated 😊
Eating rice by itself or naan by itself without the vegetable or meat dish is sort of like eating bread separately and butter separately. They might be good individually, but the combination of the two is the intention and design (and greatness).
Of course.
Exactly
Well done Sherlock
That did look absolutely delicious Gary, mouthwatering in fact, thank you that was an excellent video as ever.
You are more than welcome Colin!
I would heartily recommend throwing in "House specials" into the mix when reviewing Indian Restaurants. Hard to compare by definition, but often these are more traditional gems.
A good idea. I try to keep it from the menu so it's good to compare to others!
Nearly 31k subs well deserved mate, just love a good Indian, as normal very good review great work Gary, cheers.
Thanks Harold!!
Have a fantastic time.
Soinds expensive!
Love seeing the joy in Gary's face! 😂 Keep up the fab work ❤
Thank you!! 😁 this was brilliant!
Congratulations you two on being in love with another. When are you getting married?
Great review Gary, that meal looked superb, lean meat, fluffy rice, not a drop of excess oil in anything. Deserves a 10 all day long. I loved the way your face matched your jumper after nibbling that green devil!😂
Spot on! It was red hot mate!!
Fantastic review, this is fast becoming my go to channel! I absolutely love Indian food, the quality there looks amazing and well worth every mark out of 10.
That is very kind to say thank you very much, Paul
Good stuff. I'll take a look!
@shsh-he5qg Unfortunately that place closed down quite a few years ago. They did amazing sheesh kebabs there as well.
Excellent!
Thank you so much. Very kind of you to say!
Superb Frank.
Now that looks like a real Ruby. The price isn't too shocking. As absolutely always the quality of these videos is totally off the air brilliant. Thanks Gary.
Many thanks Dale!
@GaryEats your so welcome Gary.
Oh that's okay Gary if you insist 😂
Meant to say you have a superb cameraman.
Thank you :)
Great video Gary, hope to see a lot more from you.
Thank you. Another video coming today!
You’ve done it again and found a gem. The sauces looked so rich and creamy - and that lamb was amazing. The prices didn’t seem any higher than a lot of standard places. Wish you kept the camera running for longer when you bit into that chilli tho 🤣.
Haha thank you Carol. You wouldn't want to see my face afterwards!
Another great insight there Gary and you have set me up nicely for my pre-Christmas Curry night out on Tuesday!!! Keep 'em coming 😀
Have a great evening on Tuesday, David!
Gary's a real G for the green chili bite - Respect Big Man; Love these reviews
Regards from India
Thank you my friend.
A great, Precise review as always Gary, I thought the prices were really good for a Michelin rated restaurant.
Thanks Scotty!
@@GaryEats Happy Xmas mate 👌
Happy Xmas!
Excellent review, Gary! Very entertaining, and enjoy your composure. Keep it up! Thank you and Merry Christmas 🎄
Many thanks! Hope you had a wonderful Christmas Dylan!
Spot on Steve. It’s always about the quality!
Curry is my favourite food and that looked amazing. Thank you Gary for another wonderful review.
Mine too! More than welcome.
Hi Gary I went to my Christmas do at Indian room Balham was looked after the same guy who looked after you friendly staff and great food. Thanks again for recommending 👍
Oh wow! That's great to hear, lovely staff. Did you find the restaurant very relaxing as well?
@@GaryEats yes was relaxing it was quiet at 2 o’clock. Got the 30% off. There was only two other people on another table then when they left there was a group of about six people will definitely go back there but there is a few other places that I will be going to, and my next restaurant with my Golf buddies on Wednesday is at the crown of Mitcham restaurant
Have a great time mate.
Those curries look amazing as you said good quality food, made my mouth water watching. Price wise I think for that quality and portion size I think it’s good. Excellent review as always Gary.
Thanks Dan!!
Gary! You should venture out of London to a town called Addlestone and try the white heart pub! Would get a good 10/10.
I'll take a look Chloe. Thank you!!
Sunday lunch is always the best and tasty too! The lamb shank is tasty!
Another great review Gary. As you said enough for two making it reasonable. The one thing that I can never quite understand is no form of warmer on the table to keep your food hot as it would take some time to work your way down those bowls.
Good stuff Rob. Good point!
A comparison between the two branches would be interesting. For a change, I would like to see you try some of the fish or prawn curries. Nice of you to share your mint with Oliver Twist there at the end. 🤭
A good idea although the journey may take a while! Lol. He had some food at this one :)
Yep. The lamb is my go to to see if an Indian restaurant is good.
I think the chilli is a garnish. You can optionally cut it and mix it into the dish if you prefer the curry hotter. Not to be eaten whole on it's own 😂 Food looked great
You mean to say I wasn't brave for doing that!! Lol. Thanks!
Just to save any confusion with potential customers being recommended here , this restaurant is actually in West Ewell and not Epsom , even though it may say so on their web site , that is just for postal town information reasons .Epsom is at least 2 miles away .Cheers Gary .
Cheers Antony
Oh yeah… I can even smell it. I’m only a recent convert to Indian food and your meal looks impressive. You made a good point about the portion sizes and for the price two people could have that. Not overly expensive especially for a Michelin star restaurant. 👍
Not Michelin star but Bib Gourmand
Michelin make tyres.
I don’t understand? 👍
Thanks for watching Philip!
Its still
Dastaan in Leeds is excellent but when your up this way Gary you really should try some of the excellent currys available in Bradford great review really enjoyed it
I will do Paul. I've heard Kashmir has gone downhill?
it has Gary but the international and the sweet centre are beautiful the sweet centre have a specialty lamb on the bone that is to die for,@@GaryEats
Please can you review the monsoon in brick lane?
Good call
I will add it to the ever-growing list of places.
We went to the one in Leeds last weekend. It was absolutely brilliant. We've never seen some of these dishes before. Perfectly clean and very helpful staff. Thank you Gary.
Glad you enjoyed it Margie
That looks very interesting and a top notch review of an Indian different to the runofthemill - You should try a vegetarian Indian restaurant - totally different and better IMO (most of India is vegy after all ) Have a look at Manju's in Brighton???
I've got Govinda in London on the list and I will review that in the new year :)
When you leave a place with a smile on your face that says it all, Gary! 😊
Thanks Sheila. Have a lovely Christmas!
Nice rice
Worth the price
Rogan Josh
Great nosh
Chicken butter
I'll have another
Garlic Nan
I'm a fan
I did notice that they themed the walls on the colour of the butter chicken sauce 😂
As always,a very endearing review filmed down to earth with a very homely style.
I was hoping that the camera would turn to see the open plan kitchen😊
Thank you Gary. Onwards and upwards chum.
Haha. Thanks matey, onwards and upwards!
Great review Gary. The quality of the food looked outstanding and incredible value for money. Really appreciate you sharing with us. Enjoy your presentations 👍👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it Andreas!
It would be good if you could do a review of south Indian cuisine such as from Kerala, Karnataka orTamil Nadu. And also from Sri Lanka.
I can do that. I wouldn't say my knowledge of them will be very good though!!
That is very true, I think it’s down to the cooking time Graham
The food looks supurb,a love a Indian ,thanks bringing your latest review, congratulations you also hitting your big milestone, subscribers, well deserved Gary 👍
Wonderful. Thank you Andy!
Hi Gary
I hope you are well…
Another great find.
We both said 10 when you started the lamb 😜
Thanks once again for sharing. We can’t wait for your next ‘Let’s give it a go’.
Cheers

Hi David and Angela, great to hear from you again.
Glad you loved the video and have a lovely Christmas.
@@GaryEats
Thank you so much Gary, and to you and your family 🎄🍷👍
That was a cheap meal Gary for what you had . My best bit is when you ate the chilli as i love chilli's the hotter the better as that was a finger chilli . As i recommend you should try Californa Reaper chilli sausages in Lidl it is one of those when they gone they are gone they are so so tasty with that heat . The best way to cook them is in a air fryer as it is a shame they don't do them all the time . Love the video as always .
Haha, too hot for me mate. I'll leave the hot chilies to you!
@@GaryEats There is a new Indian resturant where i live just outside Bristol . I haven't tried it yet . But in the new Year i will get a take away and if it is any good i will let you know , as i haven't had a decent curry for at least 10 years or more .
What is it called do you know?
@@GaryEats I will let you know one day this week Gary as i have never taken any notice of the name as it is in Fishponds .
@@GaryEats Gary it is called Masala Ministry . Fishponds rd Fishponds .
Great review as always gary. Simple honest review without the gimmicks . Food looks delicious and you simply enjoyed the food. Keep the reviews coming👍👍
Thank you Helen. Much appreciated!
Give the Leeds branch a go and let me know what you think. You're welcome!
Excellent review Gary. I live in Leeds but I haven’t been to Dastaan yet. Based on your review I’ll be going early in the new year. Well done once again mate.
Give it a go. Be prepared for a hint of spice.
omg glad you like having Indian food 😊
I love it!!
Thank you my friend. You are definitely spoilt for choice with the balti triangle 😊
sadly it looks like only Shababs are doing the original balti
" one thing I really like about this place is they actually cater to vegans" John said something like that. Then " Right I'm going to have a chicken tikka curry and a lamb rogan rosh " or something to that effect.😂
I'm not being critical. It was funny😂
LOL. That made me laugh!
Top quality food is worth the price as long as the service is good also. It was so good, I thought you were going to burst into song you were so happy ! You have found a winner there Gary !
Spot on Robert. What a lovely restaurant!
Great stuff. You could tell by the clientele that this restaurant was superb. Thank you my friend and have a lovely rest of your Sunday.
Great review, I'm so pleased that they also do a vegan option. Few choices on menu mean better food as they are more focused on high standards.
Yes!!
Wow, all that grub looks incredibly tasty! Another great review mate.
Thank you matey!
Your getting better and better Gary. Great work!
Thanks my friend! 👍
Dastaan is a ~10min walk away from me and it's sensational, reminds me of my Mum and Nan's cooking when I was young, no higher praise really. The lamb dishes are incredible but if you go, get the Aloo Tikki Chaat, it's beyond amazing
That’s great to hear I think it’s outstanding
Hi Gary never commented before you are doing us food lovers a great service keep it going great vlogs. I am a southerner orginally from Kent spent most of years in shirley surrey. And I moved up to south yorkshire ten years ago never looked back the people the food and the cost of living is not as bad as down south love that come up here to do reviews mate
You are more than welcome. Wish you all the best!
You're more than welcome Rick. Lovely choices of curry, do like a good Madras from time to time. Give it a go and be prepared for some added spice!
Another great video again. Your honesty and down to earth reviews are what makes you so popular. It's 3am and I'm starving 😁

Big fan of your reviews Gary, you’re an honest man and say it as is😊
If you’re ever up North, and in Glasgow, try the Wee Curry Shop, you may just need to award an 11/10 for the very first time!
Thank you I’m in Scotland early November 👍
I can't place my finger on exactly why, but I do enjoy Gary's content. A very likeable gent.
I will take that. Thank you!
Thanks Gary I’ll definitely check it out as I was looking for a good Indian to try.
It’s worth checking out Micky Mazano’s pizza that’s about 200m from there. It’s won Time Out magazine’s best pizza. If you do go there save some room for the mini canollis.
Enjoy!
Great..just what I was looking forward to..a belting review from 'our Gary'..👍👋
Much appreciated Jan.
Hi Gary,. Another fantastic video - and yet again you manage to eat a curry without it ending up all down your front! Good job.
That was a hard task!
Much appreciated Monica. I've had lassi before, I do like it. That's brilliant, the music was very relaxing.
Gary,
So pleased you liked Dastaan. I was tipped off about it a few years ago, have been several times and think it’s great.
12:11
It’s superb. What do you usually order?
The Sheen and thickness of those gravies looked very refined compared with an ordinary local curry house.
I agree that quality will come with a higher price but this seemed very reasonable considering the size of the portions.
Another great video Gary, please keep em coming!
Thanks David!
Another amazing review as always. I always find it genuinely impressive that you resist overindulging especially this time of year! Hope you have a wonderful Merry Christmas and a very happy new year!
Thanks again! Have a lovely Christmas :)
@@GaryEats Thank you! I definitely plan to!
It's not a starred resteraunt. No way would that get a star.
Thank you. Just to be clear, it's a BIB Gourmand restaurant, not a Michelin star.
My bad. Thank you both for the clarification!
No problem!
Hi Joe. Thanks mate, open kitchen and tight menu always makes me think the food will be superb. Still worried about about the Phaal challenge.
Second time of watching this, same result 10 plus, what did we do before we found you, it's given us so much pleasure, we feel like Critics and keep looking for somewhere new so that we can give our comments ,look foward to hear that you are coming to the Midlands, take care , Sheila & Patrick.
That is so very kind to see Sheila and Patrick I really enjoyed this one. It was very very good.
I adore the curry review episodes and this one is no exception, that looked amazing quality. Cheers Gary, take care.
That’s very kind thank you 🙏
Got excited when I saw the thumbnail, then disappointed to discover that it's in Epsom. Then excited again when you say there's one in Leeds, in fact it's about 7 miles from where I live!. I'm going to have to give this one a go.
Superb David. It’s why I picked it as it covers north and south!
Hi Gary, what a lovely meal for the price, easily enough for two, as an expat in Thailand for fifteen years, it's so nice to see some of my home towns, how about you visit a Thai restaurant one day just so I can compare to the real thing, as always thank you, Ernie ,Sa Kaeo, Thailand.
Hi Ernie. Hope you're keeping well - thank you!
