As a sailor and father, hands down the Olivier boat (forgive me I know I spelt that wrong, but the boat built by the designer for himself) is by far the best you’ve shown us. It meets all the needs a family will need, only 1 shower is not a death knoll. Can’t beat the natural light from the skylights, full size laundry and the water capacity...I can see why it was built this way. If you’re growing a family this is the boat to grow into in my opinion.my two cents, I’m sure whatever you decide will be a good choice. Fair winds SV Lola
Gosh, I've only had 17 boats, all stinkpots / runabouts. Your search is so thorough, I wish I had tried sailing, but at 74 it may be bit late to start. Having grown up on a small inland river waterway I bought what made sense along the way and really enjoyed being on the water regardless of the size. Thank you so much for sharing your adventures with all of us. Congratulations on your daughter's arrival. As Louis Cole says: "Peace, Love, Live the Adventure!"
I cannot believe your English. You have accents but you speak utterly perfect idiomatic English. I don’t know more than “thank you” in Swedish but I cannot believe your native idioms are identical to those in English- which makes your mastery so amazing.
Welkom in Nederland, happy you made it. Willemstad was one very important city in our golden ages. 1700. Some famous historical sailers where born here. Never trust the brokers they always say some other guy is interested. Dutch are traders form origin and know many tricks to drive the price up. Can’t wait for the next !
Ran Sailing, Zatara , and Gone with the Wynn's continue to be the best youtube sailing channels to follow in my humble opinion. Have learned so much from you guys following your sailing adventures from day one. You guys must be the most relaxed couple to watch also, so enjoyable. BTW that first custom built boat looks like it would end up having some serious refit costs.
You guys are cool. Thanks for the boat reports from Europe. Welcome to Alaska if you make it that far. New babies, new boats, new lives, new stories. Rock on, and bring us more tuff polar class vessels from your shores. We need more expedition sail across North America from Sweden.
Congratulations on your newest crew member! Best wishes on your new boat search. I'm a retired naval architect and marine engineer. I find it more difficult to design a boat for myself than a client. Why? I keep changing my mind and incorporating new ideas. Never happy and keep changing my drawings (because I can and not paying another designer an hourly fee). I'm my own worst client! If you two (now three) are as picky as me, you'll have a long road ahead of you. Nevertheless, shopping for a new boat is always (to me, anyway) fun. I hope you're enjoying the experience.
Really loved this episode, great edit and camera work. You guys do amazing videos and are fun to 'hang out with' each week. The first boat (the 54) looked terrible inside! Very poor layout and space utilization. And it looks like it was full of water damage from leaks. The 57 was an amazing boat.
Love the oliviair . As a father of 5 we find deck space and cabins for people to spend time alone in to be a plus. Our boat is also a pilot house and we enjoy it greatly at night or in the rain. Aluminum is easy to weld once you practice, making repairs easier. The butterfly hatch is wonderfully incorporated and allows great light. Good luck hope it all goes well. Dave
Yes there is a lot of yacht for the money, the only thing I could see I didn't like was the steering system. But it's hard to tell from the way it's video edited.
Dean Robert there is a simplicity to a filler that I think they appreciate. I can’t imagine a more suitable boat. Okay maybe one with an en-suite head but that’s not the things that get me going
The special and very well thought out extras on that boat outweigh any detraction to me. I could sleep comfortably in that engine room 😂. Seriously, the upgrades in there alone make it very special but over all it’s a wow to me! I would trash the last five and spend the day dealing 😎
Would not want either of the boats, fist one is wet inside, and has mould, not good for a baby. The second on is not really a ocean going jacht. hope the others are better
Young Vera is as cute as they come! So glad she and mom are healthy and doing well. It will be most interesting to watch Vera grow as you two sail the next RAN about. Loved that second vessel but it seems huge, and with all its special gear there would be excessive costs with upkeep involved with her. Beautiful lines.
Very nicely made episode, shot angles, dialogue and music were really well done. The synergy between the two of you is perfect and nice to share. Your skills in making these are getting really well honed. In contrast, so many other channels feel forced, manufactured and disingenuous. Yours flows in an honest, real and natural mannered way. Lovely as a viewer to watch. Great start to my Saturday morning. Good job! Good luck with your yacht hunt.
Boat shopping, oh what a glorious time. Noone ever looks at Island Packet a great boat? Being a multiple boat owner myself there's some truth in what is said about the days of boat ownership. I can't wait to see what you guys purchase for your new home. I also can't wait until you show off the new member of the crew. 🎍🎍
The last one was like a real home, a lot of water use with the washer and dish washer though. Hope you decide on it because the comfort level seems superb.
Your new boat aka home deserves meticulous attention to detail; after all it will take you to the four corners of the earth. Both your input in the decision making progress must include room for the baby and her years of growth. No doubt you have considered this as evident by the in depth comments in your video; so good to see professional sailors at work. Waiting for the next video. Cheers! The Mossback sailor.
That Van Meer looks amazing! Not just in fit and finish but in design of systems. I wish I was in Europe to check out all the amazing custom builds you don't see in the US as often. Happy shopping!
Nice to see you visiting my country and looking for Dutch sailing boats. Some are bigger than Ran. But do not underestimate the seize of them. Especially the one of Olivier van Meer with its old fashioned steering equipment. Hope you will have a couple of nice days here. Good luck!
The puddle on the floor of the car is probably caused by a clogged sunroof drain. Easy to clean out with plastic weed wacker string. Thanks for you recent videos from the PNW. Sucia Island's Shallow Bay is our favorite anchorage in the world.
... Malin & Johann ... I absolutely LOVE your videos ... I get to vicariously experience in seeing so, so many new parts of the world thru your eyes in a manner that I just understand & relate to in a visceral fashion ... and please understand ... I have a BS in Mathematics, an MBA with specialties in Quantitative Methods of Analysis & Finance, and a career as a USAF Pilot ... so I'm not easily influenced ... please keep letting us know what you two see & think in your quest for a new home ... and the material and mundane you experience in that quest ... Bart
Magnificent episode. Thank you so much. As a German, I think the German boat market is also very interesting. If you’ll need a translator, just let me know. I served in the Navy for 2 years and sail myself.
Wow! I LOVE the classic lines of the black one. She is a LOOKER - way beyond the others you'll be looking at when it comes to nice lines I think.. Too bad she is so big. Keep looking until you find the right one.
Noticed the passenger puddle... You guys have dirt and debris around your pollen filter which is causing water to well up and flow into your ventilation system. Remove the cover under the bonnet and give it a good clean! (It's a design flaw). Dry car in no time! Good luck with the boat hunt, jealous!
Thank you for sharing your travels. I will probably never get to travel over there. I love seeing new places through your videos. Good luck on your boat hunting.
Later boat looks like a dream boat. Real boat not some scandinavian fashion house. Especially mechanical room is gorgeous. Also it looks like its build like a tank and thats good thing.
The 57' built by the designer, for himself is the hands down winner of everything you've looked at,and the price makes it a bargain. That's a lifetime boat. BUY IT. P.S. Vera looks beautiful, she wants the 57, I'm sure of it.
Thanks RAN Sailing for great insights into defining what world class boats are deficient vs excel in meeting a world class sailing couples needs in the near future. How detailed and exciting. Congrats on baby VERA arriving before XMAS!
I must admit I look at a boat like that and I think of all the things that can, and will, break and need to be maintained and repaired. It always reminds me of a story told by the folks from Emerald Steel about an old friend of theirs who had been cruising for 60 years on a boat he'd built from logs he'd sawn himself. They asked him if he had any electricity on his boat and he said "oh yes, I have a flashlight!" Tough way for us spoiled youngsters to live but easy to maintain and that's something...
It is so funny to see you drive through the Netherlands visiting the harbours i usually visit in the summer sailing around the country 😀 Looking forward to part 2 😀👍
You are both so good , such a good team together , l watch your videos with admiration . Hope fully you find the boat that suits you best . And xant wait to see you again on the water . My best wishes to you 🙏🙏😍😍
No through holes, I'm sold. Thats is why I also like tillers, but to also have no through holes for the engine is brilliant. If I had the cash i'd jump at that boat, it also looks like the type of boats I love
What an exciting time a beautiful baby girl. Searching for a new home (yacht). The holidays are coming. What could be more perfect and i finally get to say SAFE TRAVEL YOU THREE!
The second boat is beautiful with all the amenities of home. The washer and dryer is great if it doesn’t take 4 hrs to do a load of laundry. But I guess you can just hang the clothes up to dry. If you can swing the second boat, that’s what I’d do. The pedigree alone will help with the resale. Getting your money back out of it is great. Good luck on finding the right one for you.
2nd boat to me looks like a lovely safe place to bring up a family on your home "The ocean" that boat deserves you as much as you deserve it. SNAP IT UP! I'm excited!😝
I totally loved your searching episode !! My guess is these 2 boats are not for you, but hey, it is your decision, yes. We love the Netherlands and Amsterdam. I still have 3 pair of shoes I purchased there in 1996. Also like Rotterdam, Alkmaar, Haarlem and a couple more. Lots of fun !!
Those two were really nice boats it would be jard to choose. I think the second one was the best of the two because of the layout and the fact that its a bit newer than the first. Good luck deciding lol
Fabulous, so enjoyed your video, lovely to see these boats, I like the last one. You will most likely put a few personal touches inside so that could be a great and unique opportunity, I loved it and if you can handle the size then it would be a proper floating and moveable home for a family. Xx

Just love to be able to do this , the dutch really look after stuff, and alot of their yacht brands arent in common knowledge.the second ship had amazing features, such engineering.go on guys buy it and start your own sea school
They are beautiful boats but the woodwork will be a full time job to maintain. Also when looking at length remember that docks will charge accordingly. I think a smaller boat for the 3 of you that you can upgrade again later on if you wish would be better. Perhaps even newer architecture. I know it's personal as to choice so I can't wait to see what you buy.

The Trintella was super nice outside but disappointing inside. The next boat was very nicely maintained but a big heavy boat and as you said the arrangement below was perhaps very specific to the original owner. Look forward to the next viewings. That hotel looked super nice. Andy UK
You two were so cute lounging in your bath robes in the hotel. I bet there is little of that going on now with little Vera now here. :) Good luck on finding that perfect boat. You two (now three) are a true joy to watch.

Yes there is a lot of yacht for the money, the only thing I could see I didn't like was the steering system. But it's hard to tell from the way it's video edited.

Lofoten... 1965 Pearson Ariel. Original, mint condition. I’m the third owner.

Looks as if Malin made up her mind, you're buying the hotel room. The excitement was almost overwhelming. Lavender! :D
The cutter rig is popular in the UK, where they use both headsails together. This makes a ‘slot’ for the air, which drives the boat very nicely.
Nice video thanks for taking us along
