Linda McCarthy Monica Sandy-Lewis aka Calypso Rose - The Calypso Queen of The World. Ms Mc’Carter Lewis known in the calypso world as Calypso Rose is a woman who has by her richness of art and by her power of expression has commanded a place for her that has been traditionally only for men. Rose started singing in 1957 with a hit call “Glass Thief” and she was a member of the Original Young Brigade Tent where Spoiler was the leader and by 1964 she join Kitchener’s Revue.
In 1975 her hit “Do dem Back” when gold. Rose was crowned Road March Queen in 1979 forth exciting “Tempo”. She captured the title Road March Queen again in 1978 with the hit “Come leh we Jam”.
The first tipple crown calypso monarch of the world in 1980 with “Going Down San Fernando”. Rose then went on to become the calypso monarch of the world. Rose hit “Terrorism gone Wild” sold over 200,000 copies.
She receive the Caribbean music awards for the life time achievement award for her unnerving dedication and contribution to the calypso artform. Rose has over 36 albums to her collection and numerous singles.
She pioneer carnival in Jamaica, San Francisco, Belize, Liberia, Panama, Sweden, and Scandinavia. Rose international hit “Fire Fire in she wire wire” is the only calypso song in 27 different languages. Calypso Rose is referred to as the “Mother of Calypso”.

Keeping the culture alive: Long live Calypso
Btw Calypso Rose made a mistake in her above interview. She incorrectly recalled the year of Mighty Spoiler's death as 1958 when Spoiler actually died in December 1960.
Theophilus Philip (23 March 1926 - 24 December 1960), better known as Mighty Spoiler, was a Trinidadian calypsonian.
Spoiler's career began in 1946 (see 1946 in music) at the House of Lords Tent, and he soon became one of the most popular calypso singers, known for hits such as "Bedbug", "Magistrate Try Himself", "Picking Sense out of Nonsense", "Royal Wedding" and "Trinidad is My Land". The last of these has, to some extent, entered the consciousness of every Trinidadian. He won the Calypso King title on three occasions, in 1948 (with "Royal Wedding"), 1953 ("Bed Bug"), and 1955 ("Pick Sense Out of Nonsense").[1]
He died in 1960 of an alcohol-related illness.

Because Calypso Rose was from Trinidad does not make her the Calypso queen of the world, there were many, many female Calypsonians especially in the smaller islands who were far better than Rose and Francine and the others.

Because Calypso Rose is from Trinidad does not make her the Calypso queen of the world. There have been far better female calypsoians in St.kitts, and Antigua and those islands than Rose and Francine and the rest over the years.
