Yurara and Basetsu sound extremely interesting, I'll think about picking them up at some point when I have an opening in my budget for a shorter series! I'm not entirely surprised you didn't like Oshi no Ko, given the sorts of stories you say you enjoy. I do think it finds its footing as a story after the first volume, but if you aren't feeling it, I don't think anyone would blame you for stopping before that three volume threshold
I also read Fushigi Yugi waaayyyy back in the day, I borrowed all of those flipped-volumes from a friend at school and I remember not liking it very much at the time, but I keep wondering if I might have a better time with it now that my tastes have matured past high-school lol Perhaps it's worth a revisit, especially with it being on the viz app

Yurara and Rasetsu are super underrated! Really solid supernatural stories. I hope you pick them up!
I think the thing that turns people off with Fushigi Yuugi is how medodramatic it is (also people hate Miaka because she's a cry baby, but she's very similar to Sailor Moon in a lot of ways sooo) but I think if you just take it for what it is, an epic fantasy adventure with a star crossed lovers romance, it's really enjoyable!

This was such a refreshing video! I really like your summaries and reviews of the manga you read. I like these kind of videos more than unboxing ones. Even though its nice to see new manga in unboxings, I feel like few manga youtubers review the manga that they collect. Anyways, excellent job! On another note, I've read the 2 volumes out so far of My Special One and I love it too! I think its a hidden gem. I've also been wanting to read Yurara, Rasetsu, and Fushigi Yugi but now you've definitely convinced me, lol. Yuu Watase is one of my favorites mangakas, so I figured I would like Fushigi Yugi. (Absolute Boyfriend is my favorite work of hers so far.) I've been collecting Tsubaki-chou Lonely Planet but I haven't read it since there are only a few volumes out; and I feel like once I start reading the series, I would want to be able to finish it in one go. I like Mika Yamamori's manga Daytime Shooting Star, but not so much In the Clear Moonlit Dusk. I know alot of people have been enjoying In the Clear Moonlit Dusk, but I'm wondering if you've read it and have any thoughts? Sorry, that was long, lol. Its just so nice to be able to talk to other manga collectors, especially if you may have similar tastes in manga. Anyway, have a great day! :)

I also like this type of video more than hauls/unboxings! One of my goals is to show how interesting and fun Shojo manga can be so these types of videos where I'm giving my thoughts is really important to that! Hauls are good for see what made me buy it, but these wrap ups are good for why they should be read!
If Yuu Watase is your favorite then you HAVE to read Fushigi Yuugi!! It's her masterpiece!
I haven't read In the Clear Moonlit Dusk yet so I can't offer any opinions, but it seems like it's really different from Daytime Shooting Star (Which I love) from what I've heard. So far Tusbaki Cho and Daytime Shooting star seem like the are the same kind of story, so I think it would be refreshing to see something different from Mika Yamamori

    Fushigi Yuugi! ❤
I re-read the whole series just about 3 months ago. I read it like....4 times in total since I bought it 23 years ago.
One of my top faves *ever*. I would love to hear an in depth take of yours to it.
I also agree that the second part is not as good. BUT it destroys me every time nontheless. It's story and the mechanics of how Taka/Tamahome actually work is so convoluted that I spent a week in a daze thinking about it when I first read it.
And it still got me on my recent re-read.
The more you think about it and try to piece it together the more I hate it and the more it makes my heart ache. It's bittersweet in a way.
    *spoiler*
    .
    .
    .
    .
My take is that Tamahome ceases to exist when he disappears in the flames. Suzaku just conserved his memory.
Imagine following these two for 18 volumes only to have Taka come in basically replacing him. It's hard to explain what I mean. But Miaka has all these *very fresh* memories of Tamahome while Taka is a whole different person. With his own past and experiences. Merely having a vague memory of this other guy. It means that Miaka also has to move on from Tamahome and get to learn to love this version of him.
In a way the second part is somewhat a self-reflection of Taka and his identiy.
And for Miaka it is to move on from her first love and mature into a love that isn't consumed by adolescent idealism of love, into a more real one. One that wasn't possible with Tamahome.
Where Tamahome was all like "I only exist for you", Taka is more... or BECOMES more his own person.
I agree with you that the second part feels forcibly attached to it because the publisher probably told Watase that they need to continue to ride on the success. It feels not as well thought out as the first part, and extremely rushed.
But reading it as an adult I also see it as an analogy that the "first love is forever" trope just isn't realistic.
Sure Taka/Tamahome might not be the best tools to convey that, since there's still traces of Tamahome in Taka himself. And he has Tamahome's memories.
I could go on for forever about the second part. It both infuriates me and hits me in the feels. And I wish it didn't exist lol.

I havent watched all of your comment on Oshi no Ko yet but I have to say OH MY GOD SAME! Other than my one friend you are the only person I've seen who doesnt enjoy that story either! And yeah I hate the way the mangaka portraits the (adults in the bodies of) children and their relationship to their "mother" and I also don't enjoy the cynical view on the idol industry (and I'm not an idol fan myself). I gotta admit that I dropped the anime after episode 4 (which should be ep6 actually?) and never read the manga but based on my research my impression wouldnt be much different. Also even if I ignore all the creepy and cynical stuff.....idk I just dont think the story is very interesting? And I mean that in the nicest way possible but I sometimes feel like the story itself doesnt know if its a drama or a (not well executed) murder mystery or a coming of age thing or whatever and Aqua is a very dislikable protagonist to me. I also feel like the reincarnation thing was not really a topic anymore after Ai's death? Idk maybe that changes later and I'm 100% happy for the people who do like the series but for me there are so many things I just can't look past and I was a little surprised by just how popular the series is?
Also yeah I would love to see a Queens Quality anime! (I'm still waiting for a german release of the manga....)

I feel like there were 100 other ways to tell this story that are way less weird and creepy. Ultimately, its fine to have cynical views of the idol industry (because there is a ton wrong with it tbh), but I think they way they have done it is just not good. Most of my thinking on Oshi no ko is "what is the reason???" (Also, the second a character in a shojo manga does something less than perfect everyone goes on about how toxic it is but stuff like Oshi no Ko is wildly popular and praised?? make it make sense). I'm going to read a little more of it, but it's already left a bad taste in my mouth

I really don't like idol worship culture, however good call with Oshi no Ko being sus...it gets creepier down the line.....
    Spoiler alert......
Oshi no Ko thinks incest is wincest with a side order of an Oedipus kink.
Sorry, but it's trash 🗑️ and before people get so invested in the series, be forewarned that it's going there
