  • Because I’m in the NW mainly and doing a lot of trail camping I didn’t want an AC hanging off the back or sticking up to high on the top so I decided to install it so its easily removable. I can install it in less than a minute and when It’s not hot enough out I can leave it at home.

    great install! I like the way you figured out how to just snap the unit in place. Those foam pieces work great too. kudos!

    I like this. Im doing something similar on my 5x8 Cargo trailer conversion but im planing on building some slide out shelf where the ac will sit on so dont have to take it on and off but rather open the window and slide it out. Thanks for the video !

      I debated doing it that way also but behind a cargo door. This last trailer I built I just installed it right into the wall and I really like how it turned out, install video coming soon. Happy camping!

      @@migration-man7077 looking forward to the wall install vid. I hope to do something similar in the wall of a small fiberglass trailer. I've seen others have done it but not sure quite how they did it! Ill check to see of yours is up... Thx!

    It’s ugly…and I mean that in the nicest way. It’s the perfect solution. I love the way you have chosen to do this. It’s fine at the campsite and who doesn’t want to keep from sweating to death. But on the road? Your rig and tow vehicle look so nice and sleek. Being able to remove it is awesome. Being able to replace it that easy if it fails is awesome. Being able to store it out of the elements when not needed is awesome.
    The only thing that could make it even more awesome would be to mount it to one of those heavy duty kitchen drawer slides that would allow it to slide in when moving and slide out when setting up camp. But that would only be practical if you were in mostly hot areas.
    This is definitely the route I’m choosing as well. Thanks for showing this.

      I don’t travel with it because if I did I’m sure a couple bumps down the road it would be on the road. I don’t like the way it looks either but its definitely better than sweating to death during the summer. I’m happy with it, Have a great week!

    Nice! I'm using a portable room AC that sits in a boxed in area of a wall. I even used duct work for a return. The exhaust vents down below the trailer that I remove and cover while driving and it has two drain lines for the dehumidifier and condensation that also drains below the trailer. Works great! I'll upload a video of it soon and attach a link to it here.

      Hi Rodger,
      Its a 10’ Carefree Fiesta awning. After about a year of use it’s held up very well and seems to be built with quality materials and I love all the color options they offer.
      Have a good day brother.

    Was there a metal support brace in the door that had to be cut? I have double barn doors like your trailer. Thanks for your help.

    • @migration-man7077
      @migration-man7077  4 місяці тому

      I believe the door was installed between the framing. If you look at the plywood screws it will tell you their location. Or remove plywood and measure

    What size is the door? Did u reinforce inside the barn door

    • @migration-man7077
      @migration-man7077  Рік тому +1

      The back doors are about 36” roughly and they already had some structural framing inside luckily so I didn’t need to do anything but take the plywood off to locate the framing and insulate.

    Out of curiosity, can u leave in in there to run errands or would someone be able to steal it? Otherwise, is there a way to lock it in place? Thank you, Art

    • @migration-man7077

      It could be removed but it would be easy to put a lock on it. I’ve never left it anywhere unattended for long!

    Cool! I did sort of the same thing to my 6x12 cargo trailer conversion. Works real well and can lock the door when not in use. Are u till in WA. state? I’m currently in Seattle looking for (to start)a Caravan before this 2023 winter starts! Anyone interested?? Art-n-Kiko Aug. 28, 2023.

      I am in Washington state and went back to work, forgot how miserable it is going to the same place every day and wish I would have looked for an online job so I could wake-up in nature every day. I built out 2 more trailers after this one check them out and safe travels.

      So you have 3 trailers now and not using them? Are u in the business of converting them to sell or are they just taking up space in ur driveway now? I attempted to build out a used 2011 6x12 Mirage trailer and although it’s totally functional, I would NOT show it to anyone because I didn’t spend the cash on things like nice walls, ceiling and cabinetry because I knew I’d make all the mistakes I did. Sad to hear ur working again. Does that mean u wouldn’t be interested in making some extra cash to help me re-do mine? lol.
      Thanks, Art-n-Kiko, Seattle.

    Why not get one of those portable AC/ Heatpump that roll around on the floor? All you’ll need to do is put a dryer vent in to pump the heat out.

    • @migration-man7077

      If he has enough solar and battery he could easily power this and cool it down quick. Those ones you roll around are so hard to insulate

      I looked at every option and a sm lightweight unit less than $200 was just the most financially responsible option. If my trailer was bigger or I was down south full time I would have installed something more permanent. I’m happy with my decision a month and a half later thankfully. Have a great Sunday!
