@@dianeibsen5994 Interesting question. I'd say it's shown through actions and solidarity. Interestingly enough, indigenous nations I'm familiar with always place a much stronger emphasis on good actions over words than settler cultures.

I tried researching Onondaga when I was younger and was met with small paragraphs in books written by people not inside the culture. I'm so happy that this video was made. I want to know more, as a way to remember my Grandmother who had a very hard life. I want to be as proud of my Father's side of the family, as I am of the German side(Mom's) which I know a lot about. Family history is important, it keeps family that have past still alive in a way.
Surefire way to know if you have native blood! You will have „shovel teeth! I have them! They are pretty with a pearly sheen and the top middle four front teeth are curved under with a tinyhole in back and a tiny line next to the hole! It’s wild but I had absolute proof of heritage when a woman told me of this! But she was mean so I didn’t let on that she had proven my heritage! I am 1/8 Menominee! I hope to explore this further before I die! It’s a miracle I hope to live up to my ancestors!

When my grandfather died in 1990 and my grandmother in 2016, a member of the Onondaga people came to pay their respects. That was such a blessing to our family. My grandparents cherished the relationship with this community and I grew up hearing stories from my mom of her four years living on the reservation.
My family is from Kahnawake Mohawk territory my great grand parents and my grand father are all Mohawks and my dad I am the great grandson of Stephan Oronhiatekha Canadien ( French) I love watching videos on this to learn more. Nai:wen!!!
My Great Grandmother, said she grew up in Ovid NY, her Father an onandaga , her mother a white woman. They were not excepted . Had trouble. but my Grandmother was one of 9, the youngest. And last to pass. I always wanted to ask her more but felt like it was rough for her to talk of. I am interested in my heritage and feel very connected.
So incredibly sad 😭 devastating what they've done to the lake. Don't give up! We deserve to have clean air, clean water, and clean healthy food systems. free of processed, garbage "food." Crap most ppl. Are now addicted to. Nature always wins.
Is there anything Onondaga Nation can do as far as possibly reclaiming the land where Onondaga County owns that is now going to be the location where Micron Technology semiconductor factory will be? Homes on Burnet Road were seized via Eminent Domain too. The animals are going to pay the ultimate price by being displaced due to the clear cutting of the woods where the factory is to be built.

Clans are matrilineal, as is Onondaga identity. If your mother is Wolf clan, for example, you are Wolf clan. If your mother is non-native and your father is Onondaga, you are non-native. Additionally, clans are intertribal. You cannot marry someone of your same clan, even if they are from one of the other 6 nations within the Haudenosaunee.
