Ikoyi - The Hottest Restaurant in London From Chef Jeremy Chan

  • A meal at Ikoyi is a unique and exciting journey for your taste buds. Chef Jeremy Chan opened the restaurant with his best friend Iré Hassan-Odukale, who is from Ikoyi, Nigeria. When Hassan-Odukale said he wanted to open a restaurant inspired by the flavors of Nigeria, Chan was all in. But the food is not strictly African; Chan grew up in Hong Kong eating Cantonese food and dim sum, and describes these flavors from his childhood as extremely influential in his cooking. The tasting menu changes seasonally, using sustainable and locally-sourced British ingredients, and serving spice-focused dishes.

This man is a true master chef. What he was able to achieve starting at 26 is absolutely insane - and it would be even if he started at 19...! This gives me hope because I'm at that age, never cooked professionally and would love to have my own restaurant one day. Even tho it's obviously fine dining there's nothing pretentious about it all. Some of the best dishes I've seen!

I started cooking professionally at 28 and just closed down my first tasting menu restaurant. However, I view it as a win because of the priceless experience I have now. I am about to move to a different city and try again. You have to just do and not be afraid to fail and start again. Do not skip the market research. location location location

@@reikinaexperience1646 In my experience (over 40 years in the business), location is less important than I think it used to be, provided you still have parking, and of course your food is, in the words of Michelin, ‘worthy of a detour’.
It would appear from the little you have said, that you have the passion and determination to make it work. Good luck and keep us posted on your journey.

I don't understand this was started by Ire Odukale, who asked Jeremy to help with a menu, before eventually joing him (Ire) as a partner. Ikoyi is a place is an upscale area of Lagos, Nigeria, where apparently, Ire was born. How is it now Jeremy's restaurant with no reference to the original founder? This is how ancient Egypt became Whyte. Why is it so difficult to give a Black man credit for anything and so easy for Whytes to take credit they don't deserve. Hopefully this unfair portrayal won't affect their friendship or partnership.
