    Thank you for keeping the European market in mind! This video comes at the right time as I am looking for a good QHD monitor for some friends (in Germany). Now I feel comfortable in recommending the LG 27GP850P to them. When it comes to myself, I'm still very happy with my LG 38GN950-B. Unfortunately this wasn't a spectacular year for 38" ultrawides, I'd love to see some more models with improved backlighting.

      Depending on your price range, I'm very happy with the Samsung Odyssey G8. It can be expensive though, in Norway it's been on sale for ~€850 last week, although now it's back up to it's more regular price of ~€1-1.2k. Personally I think it's a great monitor and I have 0 regrets paying such a high price for a monitor, although I'd probably wait a bit and see if there are either new monitors coming out, or salves on current good monitors.

      @@doushannon2799 you should've considered 32GP850 model with monitor arm mount instead - it is quite a difference compared to 27" model. Pixes size is still not too big, so image is not grainy, i would say 2K and 32" is optimal combination. Panel size is perfect for desktop, but stock stand is too huge, so arm mount is needed. Using this for 2 years almost. Anyway LG's GP850 series are the best choice in terms of price/features/quality.

      I agree for the QLED and OLED section, we need a section without them for the best color responsiveness and refresh rate, since burn in is rather nasty to deal with and I'd imagine that even if you're mainly gaming you do spend a considerable time on the web or having static elements on the screen for a prolonged period of time.

      I suspect they consider 'premium non-OLED' to be a waste of money, since cheaper LCDs cover most of the fundamental performance that LCD tech has these days (aside from e-sports very high speed panels). Some additions that I found to be true in quite a few European markets that I would like your opinion(s) on:
    Budget 1440p gaming monitor: Dell G2724D. It is usually not cheap enough (~300 euros) when sold by retailers, but Dell seems to have had it on sale for quite a while now, retailing around 230 euros. Looking at reviews from other sources such as rtings, it seems like this monitor is possibly the best (or one of) value 1440p gaming monitors on the market. Do you have any interest in reviewing this monitor in the future?
    High refresh rate 1440p: Samsung G7 (27 inch), while having a higher normal price than MSI G275QP-X and GIGABYTE M27QX, is often on sale for as low as ~300 euros. The model is not very new, but for that kind of price I don't see many negatives as long as the buyer is fine with a curved monitor.

    Thanks for your review! I was able to snag a AW3423DWF for 719 euros, arriving next monday. I was able to get a samsung G8 as well for below 800 euros, but dell offered an additional year of warranty with explicit burn-in coverage. When asking Samsung support about this, they replied that burn-in is only covered if is not the result of "excessive usage", and that only the technician can determine whether it is caused by excessive use or not. It all seemed to vague for me, so I decided on the Alienware.

    I have an M28U, and it makes me wonder if somehow the objective tests are failing to fully capture exactly how these screens look to our eyes in real time, because to me, the M28U looks so much better than you'd expect for 144hz. Just moving the mouse pointer around on a Windows desktop, the pointer is so sharp and clear. It's really close to the 360hz PG27AQN, and way better than any other monitor I have, so I actually use the M28U for fast multiplayer games in preference to the PG27AQN because I sure as heck can easily see the difference between 4k and 1440p, and I actually find that makes a noticeable difference in Rocket League or CS2 where being able to clearly see other players when they're small on the screen can be important. I know Tim is already highly recommending the M28U, but in practice I feel like it's subjectively even better than you'd think from the objective test measurements.

      some of those could be attributed to it having quite high PPI (pixels per inch) rather than just the resolution. i'm thinking of buying a 27" 4k monitor too, mostly for text clarity, as i'm looking at text all day (which looks really bad at 24" 1080p, especially small font sizes)

      What do you do for work? That's also important I guess. For example; I've owned and used a Lg27GP850P-B for just over 2 years now, been excellent. I mostly deal with text for work so can't comment on how good it would be for stuff like video editing. But it's good for gaming and I haven't noticed weird colours or anything. However I'm probably not as critical on colour accuracy as someone who does photoshop the entire day so I probably don't know enough about that part. But for gaming/text and general pc use it's been great. Only thing I would've liked is 2 display ports so I could daisy chain to second monitor for work laptop and still use 165hz when connected to my own pc. That may be a limitation of my graphics card hdmi connection though, not sure. Another edit: I never use HDR so idk about that part either lol

    I disagree with some choices here.
    AOC Q24G2A is cheaper than 27" monitors and 2 overdrives will cover whole refresh range. I would avoid AOC 24G2SP because it requires 3 overdrive modes, it is already quite slow and there were cheaper monitors last time I looked (1-2 months ago). I am pretty sure there are much better alternatives, like Asus VG249Q1A (1 overdrive and faster panel in general). There are many other options, this was just my main contender while I was waiting for Benq EX240 to appear and then I discovered Q24G2A which made EX240 obsolete...
    I know that not all monitors can be covered, but too many interesting monitors are missing, From some very cheap 1080p to VA that actually matches IPS in speed (G7 does not), testing seems to be missing because Tim is focused on OLED. I am not surprised Tim covered new TN from ASUS, it is pricey after all.

    I ordered a AOC Q27G2S/EU a few days ago. It's a 27" 1440P, 144Hz on HDMI, 165Hz on DP, IPS panel that is priced at about 269,99€ normally on amazon. I got it for 219,00€ and I will come back here soon to lay down what I think of it after testing it out a bit.
    I own a AOC 24G2U and Alienware AW2521HFA, and color/contrast/brightness wise, the Alienware which cost quite a bit more is better only in refresh rates. So, my expectations are fairly high for the AOC 27".

    I got myself an MSI MAG274QRF-QD Monitor a few years ago but I got older and work got more important....So now I'm in the market for a 5K Productivity Monitor. So its as far as I know between the Apple Studio, BenQ or Samsung Viewfinity.
    For me the only prio is: Display sharpness, Color Accuracy and compatibility with my Macbook Pro. I stare at this display for probably between 8-12hours per day so something that's nice on the eyes is a nice bonus.... Oled not an option (sadly)
    It's for my remote setup. I'm still hoping/wishing for a Retina Monitor from Apple and maybe 32" instead of 27" but yeah...This is where I'm at right now.

    i had now three GP850s and my brother bought one as well. We both never saw such an awful amount of IPS glow and low contrast.
    even looking straight in the middle of the screen makes everything that is not a bright color blue/red-ish and glowy to an amount that even a TN panel looks better from a slight angle than this panel.
    And the M27QX is now replaced by REV. 2 a massive downgrade with a even at picture quality and at 240Hz overshooting BOE Panel and not the original sharp panel in Rev. 1 (which i own as well)

    it's not just the price of the 1080p monitor the reason to buy it but prices of GPU's too. having a mix of medium and high settings at native 1080 beats turning down things to low just to "enjoy" the 1440p. I've also seen a lot of people's desk setups, having tiny desks, even 27 inch might be too big, so you would just be wasting money for a difference you will see only side by side

    A use-case for going with a 1080p monitor in 2023, aside from refresh-rate and price, is that you have more margin to go "ultra settings" in the most demanding games (specially featuring ray tracing) and still get 60fps or above performance without compromising image quality because it's the panel's native resolution.
    Also, depending on how close you are to the screen and its size, just for gaming it may not make much sense to get anything higher. Personally I user a dual-monitor setup with a low-refresh rate high resolution and color accurate monitor for production, and a smaller 24" 1080p high-refresh rate one for gaming.

      @@alexanderbr8525 it's not the native resolution of the panel. Even though 4K supposedly scales perfectly to 1080p, in practice it's never as sharp as native.

    Now I really need to update my rig, my 980Ti with DP1.2 can't run the display at 144hz, so I'm limited to 75hz (cause 120Hz set the color to 4:2:2 and I can't handle the color fringing).

    What about 32" 1440p monitors? They've gotten quite popular now and in my opinion, they're the best size for mixed gaming and productivity. I wouldn't switch back to 27" after I got my LG 32GQ850 (32" 1440p @ 240/270 HZ), it's so much nicer and immersive. I own a 27" 1440p @ 144hz LG as well, which was my previous monitor and now I use it as a secondary monitor, and the difference in image quality is massive in every aspect (especially as I can use 100% scaling on Windows with the 32", which effectively gives me more screen space to work with, making this feel like a 4K monitor).
    Also, I don't think there's any better option at this category, especially because of the coating of this display, which I'm in love with - semi-glossy (hard to find nowadays). I hate so much the "matte" coatings which affect the contrast and sharpness and give this milky appearance to the image.
    I use this monitor for everything, single player games with nice graphics, esports (270 HZ is super nice) as well as for productivity and multimedia (watching youtube & netflix is also amazing on it due to the size).

    • @HDJess
      @HDJess 8 місяців тому

      P.S.: The LG 32GQ850 is about 560 EUR in Romania and in my opinion it's the best monitor you can buy for this money right now, if your needs aren't specific and you want to use it for a variety of things - gaming, multimedia, work, etc.

    • @redrock425
      @redrock425 8 місяців тому

      The issue is the lower pixel density. I have a 27" and a 32" 1440p monitor side by side. The 32" is noticeably less sharp.

    • @HDJess
      @HDJess 8 місяців тому

      @@redrock425 I've heard that argument before. I can't spot a difference in pixel density. If any, the 27 is less sharp as it's a different coating and pixels might be physically smaller, further apart from each other in the matrix.
      Furthermore, the distance you're viewing from matters a lot. Generally, you'd be almost 1 meter away from a 32".
      Another thing that people don't really understand is that it's better to actually be able to distinguish the pixels a bit on a monitor. When your eyes can do that, the brain and eyes will make less effort to understand the image, as they won't be looking for details smaller than a pixel. So in that regards, a 1440p is much "easier" on the eyes to look at than a 4K, although the 4K might look more life-like.
