I also switched from sport dog to Garmin and never looked back! I dont like the lanyard or the pocket clip. Garmin has a caribiner that will go on the bottom of the remote. I clip it on my belt loop, call lanyard and use it to hang it for storage.
Have had the Garmin for 2 seasons now. Lights are amazing like you stated. Use them for hunting and also early morning walks. Only issue I've had is hitting the toggle switch, changing collar channels without noticing. Quite annoying. I normally start at level 4 but have to ramp it up to 6 or 7 sometimes before he even notices. Have a very determined and hard headed intact male yellow lab. Father inlaws black lab can't handle level 1 so he just uses vibrate. Interesting the differences in dogs and tolerance levels.
I have both. Started having an issue with Garmin’s buttons sticking, which really freaks out the dog, and no easy way to shut it down. I do like the controls better with the Garmin, but I was able to pick up the Sportdog 425xs for about half the price as the Garmin. Just takes getting used to the controls and setting up isn’t as simple. When you get it dialed in, the Sportdog isn’t bad.
Yes, there is a setting for both tone and vibrate. At least on the newer ones. I also have no use for lights or a bark limiter. I mostly upland bird hunt with my dog so to keep the game warden happy, I only hunt from sunrise to sunset. My dog has great night vision anyway.
Serious Duck hunter here!!! I 100% agree with you. The sport dog I used for 3 years on and off season and it gave my lab serious collar burn and even had to take to the vet after a hunt because it had rubbed a hole in her neck. I made the switch to Garmin and omg why didn’t I buy this one first. Blows sport dog out the water. You also don’t understand how helpful the led light is till you use it at 4am on your retriever. Trust me buy Garmin don’t listen to the die hard sport dog lovers.
Does the Garmin Sport Pro Bark Limiter have the Autorise feature (where it levels up automatically if the dog keeps barking)? Or do you have to change the levels manually?
I agree - both are workable. Garmin has a few more features and the build quality feels better…but not a fan of the blinking charge status lite on the Garmin collar while in the duck blind, I put a small piece of electrical tape to hide that.
The thing that I dont like about the garmin collar, is it would like rotator over. So the prongs wouldn't be touching his neck. I gave it away and I now have a dogtra. With y The dogtra I dont like the remote.
Sportdog collars CAN absolutely have tone and vibrate functions at the same time. He is using a curious setting for what he says he wants. They however cant have tone, vibe, and stim controlled by buttons at the same time. Is that important? Will you use both or train your dog to respond to one or the other? Personally I would never consider this particular Garmin or ANY E collar that has all functions of tone, vibe, and stim on the same face of the controller. To me that is asking to inadvertently shock your dog when you are meaning to recall them with tone or vibe. When tone/vibe are on the side and stim is on the face not only is the difference of those buttons extremely clear you use completely different fingers to hit them. Non stim options use your index finger and the thumb for stim and you develop that muscle memory association. With the Garmin you hit everything with the thumb. Honestly to me that's way worse.
2 million users disagree. I'm one of them. In fact it could save their life. It isn't meant to replace basic obedience training and the dog should have that taught before these are used. It's used to reinforce something already taught to the dog.
I've had the Garmin for about a year and a half now and had no idea those lights were on it hahaha. Love it tho, zero complaints from me !
This was very helpful thanks ! Good to see ya back to making videos, helps all the beginners!!

Love my sportdog 1225x. I have no use for the lights and barklimiter. You can set the sportdog to have both tone and vib. I think it's mode 3

Thanks for going through all the features!
Need more Spoonies Bro stuff.
I like the bark limiter on the garmin

I made a lanyard for the garmin with with 550 cord and a carabiner. Its short so i can clip it to my belt loop and grab it easily.

easy fix!
What is the range of the Garmin? Sport Dog says 3/4 miles. But Garmin doesn't state range...
This was super helpful thanks brother
Mines brand new and I can’t get the stimulation to work vibrate and tone work any tips would be appreciated

Sportdog 1225 and sportdog tek 2.0 way easier to use and no need to buy new map chips, I’ll take sport. Dog everyday !
Had 2 of the Garmin Pros...battery life in collar is Trash
Dogtra... ? No consideration?
Do not use these. You will damage your dog.
Just needs to be used properly
