Hi I’m SJ & every Monday I do a new Baby Name list! I absolutely love baby names and creating themes of unique and unusual choices. You don’t have to be pregnant to love names; I think I’ve been writing name lists since I was a teenager! So if you love all things Baby Names; you’re in the right place! This is such a fun community and each week I’ll ask you to join in with loads of little games and I pin my favourite response the following Monday.
Thanks so much for watching! I’d love it if you shared with a friend as well :-))

That's cute
River Belle! I love it! 🥰
Beautiful! 💕
SJ, could you do a video about how to put together baby names with surnames and middle names to make them 'flow? Or a video just about middle names? I absolutely love your videos - you are my favourite UA-camr and I so look forward to Baby Name Mondays...my husband can even recognise you just from your voice! Keep up the amazing and inspiring work you do :) xxx
My eldest’s name is Talia, I was 17 in 2014 when I named her and I have NEVER heard her name on a baby list. This melted my heart to hear her name!
My Daughter is Iris Raine! Iris is the goddess of the rainbows and Raine is abundance of blessings from above. So a slight water theme
Wow so so beautiful! I love Iris so much then even more when I know the meaning! x
my favourite name is anything along that name, Rayne, Raine, Rane or even Raylinne. Theyre so beautiful and unique!

How gorgeous! I bet they will adore their names xxx
I am in love with those names! Seriously, those just about have to be my favorite girl sibling names! I am obsessed!
Alexa Gabrielle thank you!! 😍 They are the two most perfect names together. We get so many compliments on their names every single day. We say their names just to say them sometimes because we love them so much😂 I know for a fact if you choose these names you would not regret it! 💕
I love haven💜
Omg amazing names for sisters, they could have their own clothing line together!!
turns out SJ made the name Cove cool before Aspyn and Parker 😝
River is my absolute favourite! I love how neutral it is!

Ohhh I love this list!!! My husband and I have miscarried three sweet babes and we’ve named the first two Brydan Creek and Avalyn Rain and I thought we’d keep the water middle name theme going, but I hadn’t found anything that felt totally right yet. I named the first two without realizing the water theme. I just happened to really love those names. So it’s been hard to find one specifically with water in mind. The only one I’ve loved is Lakyn, but I may save that for future children. Either way, I love this list. I recently found your page and am hooked! You’re so sweet and I just love your videos!
I love hearing you talk! You have such a great personality shining through! New subbie! 🤗
Oh these are SO lovely! Thank you SJ for doing this, love them all but Talise, Marlowe, Harbour and Moselle are straight on my list xx
Those are my faves! I think Moselle is so cool! x
The only baby born on the Mayflower en route from England was named Oceanus. I think that's really lovely and poetic sounding. The baby was a boy but I think it could be a sweet girl's name as well. I'm from Michigan and there are a TON of lakes here beyond just the Great Lakes. One of the lake names that was short listed for the boy that I'm pregnant with at the moment is Curtis for an absolutely beautiful lake in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where my family goes for a week every summer.
Nice to see a fellow Michiganian in the comments!
Tallulah has always been one of my favourite names, I’m so happy you included this! Xx
My old best friend from primary school was called Talia, I never forgot her name, I’ve always loved it
Ah that's lovely; it's very rare xxx
Cove is really popular over here in Aus now! There's 3 Cove's just in my 5 year old's pre-k class! It's also big in Hawaii. I hear Kirra (KIR-RAH) quite a lot on the east coast, particularly in QLD, on both girls and boys as well which is a really popular surfer town/beach with some of the world's best waves. Beck makes me think of the singer and Dewi reminds me of Dewey (DOO-EE) from School of Rock haha. We love Kai but it was just too popular for us but Caius/Kaius was on our lists for a long time, it means rejoice which I love. Ahh Marlowe has always been in our top 3 for girls, love Margot too! You're looking amazing by the way xxx
Thanks for doing this video SJ! These are all such beautiful names! I absolutely love Harbor, Tallulah, and Cove! I fell in love with Talise! I have always loved the name Annalise and Elyse, and Talise is now on my list for top baby girl names!
Yay! Glad you love it - is so pretty and rare xx
I appreciate your baby name videos!!! I’m addicted!
Oceana or Calypso for a girl maybe? Or are those too unusual? I love the old Greek names, some of them are so pretty
Oooh yes love them! Old greek names are so cool; i'll do a list of those soon x
I have two of 6 sons with water related names
1.River wich is my son (Charlus River Arsen)
2. Aegaeon wich is my son ( Rigel Thomas Aegaeon)
Aegaeon in greek mythology is the God of violent stormy seas. They both love their names Rigel especially he loves mythology and to be named after a God, he also loves the sea so.
Such a cosy video SJ!
Meredith and Kai are some of my absolute favourites!!
PS - I’m a Pisces as well haha 💚💚
I love those names too x
Love the way you introduce these beautiful Baby Names.💖💗
Maren/Maryn (meaning of the sea) is one of my favourite baby names. I especially love the combo Maren Isolde because I adore Welsh names and would love to use them to honor my mother's ancestry.
Also, I once met a little boy named Skipper and that sounded cute and quirky to me.
Yassss! It was what I was looking for❤ Thank U so much❤❤ Love from Poland
Ah yay!! xxx
Tallulah Lake! ❤😍😍 I've never heard of Nerida or Moselle before. I wish I could pull off Neptune or Cove. I also love Marina and Aqua as some additions 😊😊
Oh yes gorgeous ideas xxx

13. Rio - Reminds me of the movie Rio. Cute but not my taste.

17. Kai - I like it a lot.

21. Marella - Not for me.
22. Gully - Not for me.
23. Meredith - LOVE IT! Being a huge fan of Grey's Anatomy and Taylor Swift I just think this name is perfect. Sadly, it was vetoed.
24. Fen - Not for me.
Talise is so beautiful. It’s gone straight onto My baby name list. Love that it’s unranked as well!
Ah great!!!! I love it so much x
Where I live in the US Talia is usually pronounced as Tuh-Lee-uh, but I love the way you pronounced it! I've never heard it like that before
What about Murphy, it's an Irish surname-name meaning "Sea warrior" or "Sea Battler".
Perfect for girls and boys.
My daughter is contemplating using the Hawaiian name Kalia. During our first visit to O’ahu we stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village and our room was in the Kalia tower. In February we again had a room in that tower and she got pregnant the next month so she’s wanting to use it as a name because it’s unusual for our area, especially spelled like that rather than Khalia, Kaleah, Khalyah, or Khalia. I’m not sold on it since we’re not Hawaiian but we’ll see. Maybe as her middle name. It’s her 4th baby (and last) but first girl. She’s also thinking about naming her after my mother but changing up the spelling, instead of Evelyn she’s thinking Evalyn. Still will pronounce like the traditional Evelyn.
What about Rhein/Rhine? It kinda sounds like Rain or Ryan but it’s more unique. It’s a river in Europe. It has some beautiful meanings and origins.
I’m also a pisces, and love water names - I think a video on Hawaiian baby names would be so cool as well!
There is a singer called Cove Reber. He used to be the front man for the post-hardcore band Saosin. I met him once in 2010 and he’s amazing! I would totally use the name Cove!
You already said many of my favourites!
I'll suggest Brooks for a boy and Marina for a girl!!
Love those - Brooks is so cool and Marina is very pretty x
These are all so beautiful!! I love the name Eleri...I think it means river in Welsh :)
I love water and water names! Awesome job! :D
When you mentioned Rio, I immediately thought of the song by Duran Duran 😂
My Korean friend's name is Danby which means "Sweet Rain." Love it! Thanks for sharing this video!
Just for fun here are some finnish ones!
MERI -- f, "sea, ocean"
AALTO -- m, "wave"
LAINE -- n, "wave"
KASTE -- f, "dew"
LUMI -- f, "snow"
PYRY -- m, "blizzard of snow"
INARI -- f, a lake
AHTI -- m, the god of oceans, rivers and fishing
AINO -- f, from Kalevala, a woman who rather drowns herself than marries an old man, later becomes a water spirit/fish
Loved this video - I am just as much a lover of names as you. My favourite girls names (that I might actually use) are Indie, Lara, Libby, Tamsin or Tammy and Amber for the hippie vibes. For boys I like Arthur or Art, Chuck, Jameson or Jamie, Kirby and Whitby. The last two are really not very popular but are namesakes of my favourite primary school teacher and a village I lived in. Would love to know what you think as I value your opinion!!
Love the names & the meanings ❤️
Faves : Thames (James alt!!!!), Lake (Blake alt!!!!!), Como, Tallulah, Murray, Nereida, Rio, Beck, Kai, Ford, Maris, Fen
I love Rivers for a boy, Rivers Cuomo is the name of the lead singer in the band Weezer! Muriel has a beautiful sea meaning too, love it
A beautiful water related name I absolutely love is the name Noelani. It’s Hawaiian and means mist of heaven. Such a gorgeous unique name😩🥰
gorgeous indeed! I love it
A name I absolutely love is Nerissa and it means "from the sea".
Love your videos!
My name is a more feminine version of the name Kai and I have also heard that it is similar to the word for “shadow” in punjabi. Very creative video - love it ❤️❤️
In Spanish, mermaid is Sirena (sea-wren-ah or sea-reign-ah), which I think is pretty on its own, but you could switch that around and use Serina / Serena as a mermaid-y name, too.
These are also good names to name your cat
I love your top! So pretty!
Thank you - it's an ASOS dress xx
I LOVE the name Meredith- and it has such lovely nicknames as well xx
It's gorgeous - could even be Edith xx
I love the name Indra!
Currently pregnant and we are going for Merryn (born to the sea) it's a traditional Cornish name for a girl.. or River for a boy
Not to sound big headed or anything but I think my name is really pretty I love how it sounds, it’s meaning is small and womanly I think Carla is a nice and unique name and I’ve not come across many people with the same name. It’s not a water name or anything but thought I’d mention it, I’m a new subscriber btw :)
Carla Eileen that's not big headed at all! You have a beautiful name 😊
Beth Clayton thank you :))
Dewi in Welsh is pronounced "Dare-wee" not "joo-y" 😝 I'm a teacher in Wales and made the same mistake calling out the register on the first day with my new class Haha! Xx
please can you tell me where you got your top fro? its lovely?
My baby boy that is due in 6 weeks will most likely be named Raiden which is the Japanese god of thunder. Not exactly a water name but thunder goes very well with a rain theme. ⛆☈⛈⛆
moonchild that’s a lovely name, I’ve never heard that name before, good luck with your baby ❤️
How cool is that!!! I love it - so amazing xxx
My relative is called Nerida, but pronounces it like NER-i-da (like Merida from Disney Brave). Also not sure if you knew this but Murray is also the name of a major river in southern Australia :)
in maori which is the native language of New Zealand (where i'm from) the word kai means food.
My baby boy today get name Lamar 😍 I love that name... Story is that my husband and me working on the cruise ship and Lamar is made in the middle of the ocean. 😍 I am from Croatia and my husband is from Nicaragua (latin lover ). 🤣 Today , 20 weeks pregnant woman fall in love with name Lamar 😍😍😍
I’ve met a little boy named Laken and I absolutely love it.
I just added so many names to my girl list!
We actually have a black lab Tallulah and sometimes my husband and I say oh I can’t believe we used this pretty name on a dog and not a baby!
Love Maris, Talia, and Talise!
Love Talia!! FYI, Fen is not a currency in China but means penny in Chinese. It could also mean portion, graveyard, decomposition, so it’s not really a good name in Chinese.
I just discovered your videos and love them. You make me want to have another child just to give them on original name like mine!!
Adisla
My sons name is River Jameson ❤️ and my daughters name is Harper Rayne we love water themed names 😍
What goes through your mind with Ripley...I think of the Sci-fi movie series called Aliens. And the main woman character had that name. Lol. Anyways; that's just what goes through my mind. I love all your baby name videos.
Love this group of names x
Thanks Melanie xx
At my high school we have a gully behind our school and it’s kinda hidden by some trees. But basically when someone says they’re going down to the gully it means that either someone is getting jumped or they’re dealing drugs or they’re doing drugs or something else illegal. Lmao so when you said gully I literally died laughing. It’s so weird to think about how someone could’ve named their child gully. Because when you hear the word gully at my school, you automatically think of trouble.
I think Ocean for a boy or Oceania for a girl would be great. Also Ripple(wave), Glacier and Sirus( a type of cloud) sounds good.
I LOVE your top in this video. Soo beautiful ❤️
Lake is what we were planning to use as a middle name!!
Your voice is so sweet! Love your videos :)
Ah thanks Kim! x
My name is Marissa, which means “the sea” in Latin. I’ve always loved it. 🌊 🧜♀️
How about the name, “Rain”? That’s kind of cute for a boy or girl 🌧 ☔️
ahhh i love the name talia so much!
Ocean is my favorite name
Ooo some names I've never heard! So many I like... Lake, Talise, Harbor, Kai, Ford, Maris, Marlowe (which I love thanks to you), Marella, and I'd add Marina!
Marina is great! It's a great theme isn't it - that's why I did so many! xx
I loved that Fen was number one. My great grandads name was Fenna, a name I never hear.
Oh gosh if anyone had the name 'Thames' in Australia it would never be said correctly, just super phonetically and 'THHAAAMES' sounds so grating!
I love harbor for a girl it reminds me of Harper !
I love your baby name videos! I would suggest the name Marine (which is the name of my little sister, we are French), which means "from the sea". It is a very popular name in France. As well as the name Ariel maybe ... the ultimate mermaid name for me haha!
Corey: Dweller by the misty pool
Where’s your top from? It’s Beautiful 😱
It's a dress from ASOS - quite old now though xxx
I had nothing to do with the water when I was born I was just decided to be named River... I do often feel connected to the water though!
Edit: found out it was because my mom was in a very bad mental state for most of her life. the name River reminded her of freedom. she committed when i was four years old.
Love these! I'm in love with Lake but would also like to suggest Loch being Scottish & all 😊 Could be Lochie or Lachlan. But would of course need the correct scottish pronunciation 😂
Another great video as always xx
Yes so so cute - I love Lachlan. xxx
My niece is Lachley!!!! I’m in the states but I’ve never heard it anywhere else.
Have have a little nephew called Lake, he is a cutie. I love your top SJ xx
Wow so happy people are picking it! Thanks it's a dress from ASOS xx
Hi! I know I’m probably a bit late on this, but I speak Japanese and I’m not really sure how Marella could have a meaning in Japanese considering L and R aren’t really different phonetically in Japanese and I’ve never heard of any word or kanji or anything... I did some quick research both on “marera” and “marerra” in Japanese as a name but I could really find anything, so I think your info might be wrong on this one!
Though I can see it having a Spanish meaning, with mar (sea) + Ella (her)!
My little sister is called Talia pronounced how you said, never knew the meaning of it, she’ll love it! X
It's crazy, I know a family who have all R Names.. The one i was friends with was Rainey, and her brother was River. And then when i was in highschool I new a girl named River :)
I like Lake,River
Talia - beautiful name, reminds me Thaleia, daughter of Hephaestus - my favorite Greek male deity Harbor - I love Harbor for a boy than a girl, Turkish word is Liman but honestly it doesn't sound namely to me I love both Talise & Tallulah for girls as well I love how sweet they sound
Kai is so handsome
Marella, Maris and Marlowe are sweet sounding names and Mavi will just fit in
Fen also means science as well, just makes it cooler imo
Hmm river names? I would offer Seyhan, Ceyhan, Seyhun, Ceyhun - Han ones are rivers in Turkey and Hun ones are found in Central Asia other rivers from Turkey ; Asi, Aras, Aliova, Emet, Luda, Riva
Some lakes of Turkey ; Kovada, Sula, Salda, Sera
Deniz - means sea
Katre - Ottoman Turkish name that means drop of water
Alara - of course are spirits of lakes
Ardow - they are the souls of those who drowned
Mavi - means blue and is related to Arabic word for water and related to Hebrew Moses - Musa is Turkish version of Moses
They're pretty aren't they!! Glad you like them too xx
SJ Strum they are ~ my middle name is the Turkish word for water but it also means soldier - water and army therms are related to each other in our language due to the ancient culture and I love both of the meanings xD
allyria stark What is your middle name, if I may ask? The meaning of it is amazing!
Eline it's Su two letters, pronounciation is similar to Sue, Subay which is a combine of su (water) + bay (rich) is a word for military commanders also means single man since Ottoman soldiers wouldn't get married until 16th century
Kai means food in Maori or rarotongan and paumotu language. Vai means water in polynesian language same as Moana for ocean or for the color blue. Anavai as stream in tahitian.
Vaiana as clear water or pure water also in tahitian. Vaiora as living water in tahitian
Marlowe is one of my top names for girls but I just can't get my husband on board! I also love Cove for a boy :)
Indra and Dewi are so common in Indonesia yet so many people choose those name. My ultimate favorite name since I was teenager is Kai. I would like to name my child Kaisha. Kai means sea while aisha means alive
My mom was a swimmer for 24 years. She named me and my siblings after water. Reese, Brooke(me), Baylie (“bay” has to do with water)
Cove is the one I'm trying to talk my husband into!
Some other water girl names are
Lilly, Aqua (Aqwa) , Marine, Seaanna, Pearl, Shelly
Very lovely video and so easy to watch and listen to :) my name is Kai and I don't know any other girl Kai's but think it's beautiful for girls too, love my name actually ❤️
My name is Talia. My family pronounces it Tal-ea but I get Thalia a lot, also loads of Natalias and Italias as well. I like my name but love the meaning and since I live in the United States I have never met another Talia 💧
Talise is the name of a chain charity shop in Canada.
I would love a bilingual baby names list, specifically looking for boys name that are easy to say in French or English. We already have many Patrick, David and Alexandre's
We also have Felix and Stephane
I suggested Ford to my boyfriend just the other day (I love last names as first names for boys), but he wasn’t into it. ☹️
Ah typical!! I'll do a surname and first name list for you. Hudson is a great one; Cooper; Smith is one I love too xx
SJ Strum Thanks! I’m partial to Sullivan, which I hoped he might like because he’s Irish, but no dice. At least we easily agreed on a girl’s name. Haha.
I did also, I should have known better as he works with cars, not impressed with Ford or Nova, haha!
