Band of the Scots Guards making a terrific sound - such a lovely lilt in their playing too. I say this too often, but we really are incredibly lucky in the UK to have the highest standard of military music making across all three of the armed forces. Thank you to all concerned, and thank you for posting this video.

I agree with you, 100%! No one does it better than the Brits! & the Scots, & The Welsh & the Irish!

@@vickyRoyalHistorythe term British already includes the Scots, Welsh, and Irish…

@@user-lz2vp2yn1f Errr No it Doesn't. Britain originally was the name of Wales & England in the 13th Century, once Edward l had conquered Wales, made it an English Territory. The Name Britain was derived from The Name "Britannia" Which was The Roman Name for the Land that is Wales, England & Scotland. The only part that was under Roman Control, was Wales & England. Scotland has never been Completely Conquered. Even when Edward l & his Grandsons fought the Scots, the best they could do was make Scotland, England's Vassal. In 1707 in the reign of Queen Anne, Scotland & England signed the Acts of Union, uniting England & Wales with Scotland. The United Britain, became Great Britain.
Ireland was 1 Country, in May 1921, in the 4th effort to Establish Home Rule for Ireland, the Country was Divided into 2, Southern Ireland & Northern Ireland by The United Kingdom of Great Britain (England, Wales & Scotland). The Southern Portion of Ireland gained Independence from The United Kingdom of Great Britain in1937, becoming The Republic of Ireland. Northern Ireland chose to stay under the Rule of Then Kingdom of Great Britain. That's where the problems arise. Ireland was a Kingdom up until 1920, when the Division of Ireland was passed by Parliament. The Anglo-Irish Treaty Divided Ireland into 2 Parts in 1921, in effect dissolving the Kingdom of Ireland. Therefore when Southern Ireland got Independence & became a Republic, Ireland was no longer a Kingdom. That's why it has always been, The United Kingdom of Great Britain & Northern Ireland, Northern Ireland isn't a Kingdom. This caused great confusion everywhere, The United Kingdom of Great Britain part was easy, look at any map & all 3 Countries make up the mainland of the British Isles. Northern Ireland could not be merged into The United Kingdom, it wasn't a Kingdom. However, to all intents & purposes, it was Governed by The United Kingdom of Great Britain. In the end, The Name, The United Kingdom of Great Britain & Northern Ireland Northern Ireland is a self Determining Country & chooses to remain part of The Kingdom of Great Britain & recognise The Sovereign.
The whole lot has been shortened to The United Kingdom or The UK. For easiness, Ireland is loosely contained in that, because for International Trade & other matters, although Ireland recognises the British Royal Monarch, it isn't a Kingdom, the same way as Canada, Australia & NZ aren't.
In my Comment when I referred to Brits, I also referred to Welsh, Scots & Irish. Well, a very Large Portion of Scots & Welshman, consider themselves as that, both Scotland & Wales are separate Self-Governing Countries, who are part of The United Kingdom of Great Britain, but they are still Countries. Northern Ireland is even more Complex.

I often wonder just how many miles they walk daily while on duty. Has to be the healthiest military in the world. Love watching them.

Ah! that answers my Question in your Video. SDM Gareth Chambers MVO appears to still be the SDM of the Division, his Baldrick & Apron Clasp are correct for that. The Band of the Scots Guards are in fine Fettle, sounding very nice. The Honour Guard, provided by The Welsh Guards looked very Smart & their drill was Excellent. I saw footage of the Honour Guard at Buckingham Palace, when the 2 Carriage Processions left to go to Parliament. They did themselves Proud, standing in perfect Order & delivered the Royal Salute Crisply & in almost perfect Unison. There really isn't anyone else in the World, who comes close to the British as far as Pomp & Circumstance, Ceremonial & Tradition goes.
Thanks Mr AFV! for another excellent Video! It must've been a Long day for You.

@@charlottecunningham2141 Hi Charlotte! Yep, he's also the only DM to do it, both ways too, Marching out & Coming back. There's a Memorial there to some big Battle the Grenadier Guards fought in & acquitted themselves very well in. I can't remember where it was at the minute, but I remember that they lost a lot of men. I think also there are some Divisional Staff Officers based there too. The Respect he pays, no matter what the reason, is to his Credit.

DMaj Chambers is most likely saluting the statue of Field Marshal Earl Alexander of Tunis which stands in front of the Guards Chapel. Alexander was Colonel of the Irish Guards from 1946-1969. So Chambers is saluting a colonel of his own regiment. Which explains why no other of the current drum majors salute at that point.

@@meadowlands1937 Hello Meadowlands! I hope you are well, I haven't seen you for awhile, which is hardly surprising when I think of it, with all the time difference, I'm 11-13hrs ahead of the UK, so that makes it a daytime/night time swap, I gave up trying to work out difference for the USA, there's too many zones. I always read your comments eagerly though & it's very rarely that I don't learn something new. Your kindness in sharing your knowledge about the DMs I will never forget & the Hints you gave me to help identify them. I save all those kindnesses from all of you on to Word Documents & into a Folder, what started out as a learning exercise for me, has become almost A Dummy's Guide to! Delvin & Mr Baton, explained to me about the Memorials at The Grenadier's Barracks, but I'll have to ask them again. For some reason I can't have saved that bit of information. It all came about when the Band of the Coldstream Coldstream Guards were putting on a little Display for a Group of VIPs & there was a Statue of a Corgi! I made comment about it & was amazed to learn there are all sorts of Memorials, Statues & things, dotted around Wellington Barracks, the Guards Museum & the Guards Chapel. Next time we go to the UK to visit the Family, I'm planning on spending a Week in London & visiting the Barracks. Stay Heathy & Safe, Best Wishes to you & Yours!

Hi I Mean it! Great ID by the Way. Remember it's a Work Day, There's no Public Holiday for the State Opening of Parliament. Getting around London isn't an easy job at the best of times & the Security is always tight at a thing like this. Not that long ago there were 2 or 3 Terrorist attacks at or on the way to the Houses of Parliament. Several People died & so they take no chances, especially with the Monarch being present. I was rather appalled to see the "Not my King" people had a large number of protestors there, complete with Banners etc. This particular event focuses on the Crown & the Position of the Monarch, rather than the person who holds that position. It is a Centuries old Tradition, that dates back in one form or another to the Signing of the Magna Carta in 1215, although Parliament as we know it is a much more recent concept. The Roots of it began with the Magna Carta, when King John signed an agreement with The Barons & Nobles of England, which limited the Kings Power & made him obey the Laws of the Land, just as his Subjects were required to. It also agreed to a Council of Nobles, who the King had to apply to for Money, where as he used to be able to levy taxes against the Barons, Nobles & Merchants to fund Pilgrimages to the Holy Lands or Wars with other Countries in Europe or against the Scots & the Irish. Over the following Centuries & particularly through the period of the end of the Civil War & the Trial & beheading of King Charles l. Oliver Cromwell's rule (1647-1660) was as the Lord Protector who had The Council of State to assist & advise him. This period is known as "the Interregnum" & came to an end when Cromwell Died. Though many of his Puritanical Polices were discarded, The Great Council of State decided to the return of the Monarchy & offered the Throne to the exiled King Charles ll, but with greatly reduced Power & who would agree to retain The Council of State, which would be enlarged to include representatives of the Common People (The House of Commons) & also representatives of The Barons & the Nobles (The House of Lords). This is the First recognisable Parliament as we know it today. The Great Council of State had the Palace of Westminster as their home & the Style of Governance was called a Westminster (after the building ) Parliament as a direct Translation from the Old High French spoken at Court in England, Parli - Spoken & la mentente-agreement or accord.
Of course there have been many refinements & changes over the Centuries, but at it's most basic level, it remains the same.
Oh dear, I'm sorry for waffling on, it's the tutor in me I'm afraid, but you get the Picture, it's the Position of Monarch & the Collective Great Council of State that the State Opening of Parliament is about. It doesn't matter whether it's King or Queen, or what Political Party is in Government, the Act of Opening Parliament is between the Monarch & The Great Council of State or if you like The Government, it's Symbolically reaffirming of the agreement made in 1660. It's not about personalities or the People Holding those Positions. That's why in my opinion, this is neither the time or the place for protests about the person or people currently holding the positions.
