- How does the Xbox One S perform in 2023 and should you still consider to get this console? This was Microsoft’s take on making an affordable console all the way back in 2016. That was over 7 years ago but it's believe it or not actually capable of running most out of the latest games. And that said, is the Xbox One S still a good option for affordable gaming, or is it time to upgrade?

It is still a solid console....when you factor the backwards compatibility the Xbox One has a huge library that can keep any gamer entertained for a long time. I plan to keep my One S for a long time. Good video!

I bought Xbox One S last week for 40€ :) i had it before but sold it because as a father of two little daughters i didn't have time to play. Now they have grown up a little so i bought it again and just loving it. It runs every game that i love to play and it's silent and stable (just changed internal HDD to 1tb SSD, made a huge difference in loading times!)

My series s has been in warranty repair for 2 weeks. So I bought an old one s. I like it so far not much of a downgrade
I just bought a one S. i opened it up and installed a 1tb SSD. Load times are much MUCH faster now.

I did this one my OG XB1. Much smoother UI and quick load times. Really breathes life back into these older consoles.

RDR2 runs perfectly fine on it, for me. In fact, all the games I have that I played on the OG Xbox one run perfectly fine, in some aspects, it runs better. Honestly, if you are just looking for a decent gameplay and aren't interested in 4K or HDR stuff, this is the perfect console for you.
Still use my Xbox one-the original VCR model. I was streaming Starfield from it. I keep it in my parent’s house. I live in my own and own a series x, but when I visit I still use it.
It's definitely a good value. It has HDR support and can stream video in 4K resolution. Plus it has an optical drive unlike the Series S. If you can get one for a decent price, there is still a lot of fun to be had here. It doesn't matter now since I have a Series X but I wish I'd originally gotten the One S instead of the plain Xbox One several years ago.

I had my Xbox One S since 2018
This console is great for the games that run well on it, like cod MW2019, Battlefield V, Metro Series, Hellblade, all the classic Halos, Forza Horizon 4 and stuff like that.
This console really struggles with the newer releases, like Warzone 2 and stuff. For a single player machine, it's perfect
literally warzone 2 and apex are not gonna run the way you want it the optimization was not kept up with for last gen it sucks

As a non-gamer, I bought an XBOX One 3 years ago and loved it. I played really old games and bought both physical and digital games. With MS cutting the price on the Series X this week, I finally caved in and bought one so I can play the newer games. No regrets

If you want proof that Jesus and the Bible are true look a documentary called “Ron Wyatt discoveries 2022” on UA-cam and a UA-cam channel called Expedition Bible. They both examine archeological sites and discoveries that prove the Bible, and even reference secular sources. Don't upgrade yet. Wait for the Series S 1TB black version to drop first. It will likely shift the prices of the white Series S or the Series X.
I bought one of them a couple of months ago and it runs everything i throw at it,however i'm only a bit disapointed because i can't play any of my old xbox 360 disc games on it but other than that it's an awesome console
I just ordered one for €50 with a drifting controller. I bought it to play halo and stuff with friends on splitscreen. I repair controllers so this is a great deal :D
Just bought a OG1 Forza edition from cash converters £60 - I have a PS5 and PC with 4070 Ti but I just love kicking back on the bed with the controller put the disk in and play. Managed to grab classics I haven’t played for years or at all - all the gears of war ultimate edition 2,3 judgement tactics and halo 5 for £18 so less than £80 and I’ve got a decent set up for not a lot of money!
Still got mine. Will wait till some decent games come out on new consoles first.
I just bought a new to me Xbox One S (for $110 CAD) and it's still amazing. I'm gaming on a 1080 monitor so I didn't see the value in upgrading to the Series S. Sometimes during Halo I do wish I was gaming in 4k 60fps but I'm also over 30, so I suck at FPS games anyways.
Halo 5 is still popular even though it came out on 2015. I think it is the best Halo game ever.
As a long-time collector of retro and current consoles, and someone who babies his consoles trying to avoid any scratches, my heart felt pain when you dropped items on the S. Even having the console sit out there in nature made me frown.
As someone who games on a base Xbox One and Base Ps4 I recommend the One S, it has HDR, 4k upscaling. It runs most games at 900p, some lower ones at 720p - and a few at full 1080p. That said with HDR which my One doesn;t support on a big 4k tv it would look much better than mine - thanks to dynamic colors. All in all if its within your reach get one, things like Hogwarts Legacy play surprisingly nice on it - just expect long loads (about 1 min 30sec). Overall Highly recommend previous gen if on a budget.
I got a PS4 in 2017. Got a Xbox One S in 2020. I recently got a PS5. Upgrading to the next gen consoles, the performance blows away the Xbox One S/PS4. But I still love my Xbox One S. Love the backwards compatibility with my Xbox 360 games. It's still a great fun console. If you want something simple, a huge library of games, and something extremely affordable, get the Xbox One S.

@@Odeboo - A little apprehensive with Unreal Engine 5 games incoming. May eventually be dealing with 720p/60 in performance mode and 1080p/30 in quality mode...😰.
If that was the case I’m pretty sure that Microsoft would mention that. Also the Series S has the same CPU as the Series X, new games are being more and more optimized for every next gen consoles and so on. That said, it should run good on the Series S 😊

I've had the one s about a year after it came out, i got it for Christmas by my dad, now I'm 20, it's 2023, and i can't afford a new console, I'd love to play and own StarField, I'm playing it on game pass, i even had a series s for a few months, but i had to pawn it to afford bills, the series s was a good console too, except for the fact that storage was too low to actually enjoy more than a few games at a time
I’ve got a ps5 and Xbox one s I mostly use the Xbox for tv and movies in my living room and my ps5 for playing games. I don’t feel the need to upgrade for games that my PS5 can perform and I can still play all my old games also in my Xbox one s.
I been on my pc and ps5 for most of the year. Trying to play on my one s today has me ready to get a series s/x immediately. This thing is a Netflix box now.
It doesn't even do that with any finesse these days. Looong console boot up time, then the app crashes with regularity.

I’m debating on getting one because it would be nice to have a secondary console from the other side of the console wars. I’m a ps5 owner and I will play most of my new games there but there are some exclusives from Xbox I want to try like halo and most of the older sonic titles are only playable on Xbox so would the one s be good as a secondary console?

Even though they stopped making disc games for it a lot of developers are still releasing Game Pass versions of games.

You can get this system in really good condition online for about $125 its does a good job pkaying 4k disc movies and streaming 4k very clearly imo and the hdr has been improved even more with a calibrstion app on the xbox one console I have a series s but still play my
One s system alot accually. Other than slower load times than next gen graphics wise still a nice console imo. I have alot of digital and disc vesrion games I ha e in my collection

The thing i am seeing on my xbox one s is, if you have gamepass ultimate, the newer games that are series s/x, can be played on the one s via cloudgaming, so i think more and more games will be available for one s users via gamepass ultimate, which is actually a nice touch from Microsoft, they can give extended support via that way. I installed a 1tb ssd in my console, and it still works fine for the games i want to play. It's a good console, if you set your expectations not to high
Iam still using the xbox one s i just upgraded the hhd to an 2tb ssd and a 8tb ssd external drive iam getting an xbox series s for next gen games but going to use the one s for my xbox one games

I went from PS2 to Nintendo Switch OLED. I love the ports on the Switch, but am looking for beefier games like RDR2 and so on that I missed during the PS3/4 era. Do you think this is a cheap, decent upgrade to bigger games? As you can tell by my gaming history, I am not a graphics snob lol
RDR2 and some other beefier games that I've tried work fine on this console. I've been using the One S for 7 years and just upgraded last year to the One X because I wanted to experience 4K gaming on a video game console, with more stable refresh rate. But overall, the One S would be a nice upgrade, especially with Game Pass still being available for last gen. Just keep in mind that several new games has popped up since the release of this video, many of which being exclusive to next gen.

One S...Xbox360 and Xbox One games are really cheap so the disc drive is a must.

Although yes, the one S does have a larger game library now the problem is that you can’t find anybody online unless you just wanna play the games on your own because most people don’t even play them online

Do you mean if the recent update is good? If so, then yeah it’s running smoothly except for the HDD which can take some time to open the inbuilt applications.

I mean they updated the Xbox 360 up until 2019. They probably won’t stop updating the one until the vast majority of Xbox players are on the new generation. If I had to guess, they’ll stop updating the Xbox one whenever the new generation comes out, so maybe 2027-2028? Xbox and PlayStation has consistently released new generations around every 7 years, so that’s my guess.
Third party publishers are still making games for XB1 so there’s plenty of life left. Even MW3 is coming to XB1 this year. The install base is still fairly huge. I still play my OG XB1.

@@LeedsUnited19 MW 2019 plays pretty well on the OG XB1. Frame drops few and far between. Anything after 2019 runs poorly. I still play MW 2019 on the OG and Series S. Series S is a COD monster!
Is it good I’m tempted to go with a switch one s or the steam deck but I do have problems with 3 of them like for switch in my country the games are much more expensive and for steam deck they are imported so I can’t order from valve meaning they are more expensive like. A 512gb model price you can get the 64gb one and with Xbox well it doesn’t support the country not that I think about it won’t effect me if I want to get gamepass I’ll somehow loop around it and also I am on a strict budget like 500 for that I want a console rdr2 gta5 bo2 and a budget tv so i don’t know cus maybe out of the blue some new game comes out and I’ll regret buying a switch or Xbox for example like a RDR remaster black ops remaster etc

If you want an Xbox One, get the One S or One X as in most countries they don’t differ that much in price. The One X is packed with performance, got mine for $150. I you want the One S, try to find one for $100 or less or else it isn’t worth it. The One S is a good console, especially if you install an SSD 👍

I'll never understand the need to put a console on the grass, over a rock, on the sand, top of a tree, bottom of a lake or anything related to nature. It doesn't make any sense! 😅 Anyway, Xbox One is a great console. Even though I bought a Series S last december, I still have my Xbox One Fat for playing my physical games and it's working flawlessly after 8 years of heavy use, since I never put it on the grass, over a rock, on the sand... 😂

Tbh i think you complety wrong xbox one s has 8gb ram and the x got 12gb ram its o ly diffrwnce is in loading time not in qoulity and both consoles got 4k perfectly fine on all games i tried so far that includes far cry 6 . Forza 5 red dead and other games like mortal combat and gta 5.

The issue I have with this console is simple... Xbox One aren't good until the release of the One X model. Sure it's Cheap today, but games are less polish as on the One X... and even the base model PlayStation 4.
So my guess is the Xbox One S (so the og VCR model) aren't a good deal even for 80 bucks. It's a better deal to buy a PS4 (who've got more physical realease game) or a Xbox One X (who've run game better)
Even the Xbox 360 is a far better deals than the One X, is more cheaper and games for 85/90% of then run better on it than on PS3, So it make it the 7th gen system to own.

@@GORILLA_PIMP Well you need to understand than the Xbox 360 have a hardware from 2005 compare to the Xbox One who've got a 2013 hardware, so of course the 360 is not better than the One S. It's like compare a NES and a SNES, the last one have better color, better sound and ect.
BUT, My point was than the 360 is a better deal to buy than the Xbox One because it was the home console who've the best game from the 7th gen console. It's not the case for the Xbox One S who's the less better console for his generation (PS4 for base model, Xbox one X for 4k)

Absolutely! I started with the One S and bought a couple of One X optimized games for that console and it worked great on the One S. Although you’ll not get the same performance as the One X on certain games.

I believe GameStop is kind of expensive compared to several websites, and if you have local pawn shops, there’s a chance you’ll find consoles that are much cheaper in various conditions.

Yup, the One X will be enough too run it relatively smoothly, to increase the speed an SSD would help.

While I was somewhat dissapointed with the lack of compatibility (half of my Xbox 360 collection does not run on it), but if you think of it as a quasi-gaming PC while your regular desktop PC is for work, there's def. still some value.

Man that cinematic mode on RDR2 is ugly! I don’t understand why the colors are muted?!
The cinematic mode paired with HDR is supposed to give a realistic image. While the colors are indeed muted, this video slightly differs from what you see in real world since I don’t have a capture card. Personally I actually enjoy the cinematic mode. It gives an amazing “Wild West” experience.

The hardware inside the xbox one s is exactly the same as the launch xbox one from 2013 making it 10 years old but in a smaller form factor.

Should be a lawsuit filed because I bought the Xbox One s specifically for these reasons.. because that's what it was advertised with these certain games and what it would do ...I bought the Xbox 1s specifically for the reason that they have pulled from their advertisement that they sold... that is exactly the way I look at it... and we don't buy things that are expensive to have a date when they say they're no good.. I mean another thing I've noticed when they want you to buy something else is they start to update their old device equipment to stop working... that's not called Sears and sales and business making.. when you go on update certain things to make the machine work wonky because then the company will want to make money off their new equipment ..sometimes it's just not cool.. I mean at the expense we put into these machines ...it does get a tad bit aggravating...
I think if you can afford it get the Series X or Series S if you cant afford it.
I used to play on this from spring 2017 to fall 2023. Then I upgraded to the Xbox Series X and it was really worth it considering that the last gen console struggles with newer titles.

How is a 4k and HDR console terrible. What you dont know xbox one s can run series x or s games on cloud they just are not setup to run. Starfield runs the same on xbox one s so that is not true

No Starfield on XBox One... Hahaha, like that's going to mean anything. The game is crap so no one will miss being able to play it. You could have literally used any other game as an example and it would have held more weight to your point. If you are going to want a Disc Drive in your consoles then purchase Sony PS5, cause Microsoft will be removing the DISC Drive from ALL of their consoles within 3 years. They want to go ALL digital so they can control what games you have access too, you will own 0 games and can only place the games they decide to keep available on their store. They want to milk as much money from their gamers as possible and have full control of what can or can't be played. Lastly purchasing the XBox Series X/S now, you have already lost 1/2 it's life span. So your paying the same FULL price as others did 2.5 years ago, but you are not going to get as much life out of the console before the next one comes out. It's a rip off IMO.
