- Reassembly of my Avus Forged wheels after getting face powder coated in Kingsport Grey by DH Powdercoating in Margate, FL.
GE Silicon ($5): amzn.to/2YGafxu
I polished all the barrels and lips using Zephyr polishing wheels with Mothers Polish and Zephyr's Pro40 finishing polish.
I have no affiliation with these products, I just found alot of professionals who use them on UA-cam, so I tried.
The Zephyr Polish Kit I used (I bought the 8-inch version, which was around $70)

I found that removing the handle on polisher helped get better into the wheel barrels. I also used the Zephyr 2-inch extension to help get inside the inner barrels. It seems expensive for what it is, but I couldn't find a better cheaper option. I also have a 6-inch extension but that was too long and puts a lot of stress on the grinder.
Zephyr 2-inch extension ($15) amzn.to/38vFgZs
I used with my Harbor Freight Polisher, running full speed for the cut and color phases, I ran it at half speed for final buff. Mine is the older version from 10 years ago (Pittsburgh)

Pretty good vid, I gave it a like. Couple of comments: the silicone between the barrels is not needed, I always torque the hidden hardware first to "suck" the 3 pieces together- cross pattern just like with lugs or head gasket, and torque the face hardware from the front while holding the rear still. Like you said, lots overthink it. I agree with no loctite and the rest you mentioned. Just a few pointers for first timers. Hopefully this worked out for you! Good job.
Uh.. yes, you absolutely need silicone.
its a long process!! we did our wheel last week
Your wheel centre dropped in so easily. My centres were a super snug fit
Did you in fact use 35 lb ft?
Most sources say 18-25 lb ft.
Yea I’ve always torqued these wheels to that. This was the third time I took apart and painted these.
@@TunerwithKids Ok, yeah I just finished torquing mine down and 25 lb ft seemed like it was too low. But how the hell you torque them to 35 in the vid and the wheel was barely turning or moving? At 25 I have to hold the wheel down with my feet.
What finish are the lips of these wheels?
Polished. I had the old chrome chemical stripped and then did a polish using sanding to 2000 and Zephyr polishing wheels and compound.
Cool man!
Where can i buy the back part of the rim mine got bent got forgiato rims
Try 3 piece.us, there are a few companies that sell components.
What was the width of this wheel
Strategic Computer Systems rear wheel is a 10 inch. Front is 8.5 inch b
Where did you get the tool for that rivet?
I don't have a tool. Most have a 12 point 8mm or 9mm. But the Avus has a special key, I just used the end if a hammer to hold two of the slits. But most of the screws can be tightened without a key on other side.
Tuner with Kids I have a set of Avus and recognized it when I saw your rivets. Was hoping to find the actual tool for it. I’ll try your hammer method. Thanks!
Any tool that can get into two of the grooves and hold it can work. These have been discontinued for a long time. You can try COR wheels in Miami to see if they have. All these Miami wheel companies have gone in and out of business. They might be owned by American Force now.
Do not use lock tight ...???? You tripping bro, always use lock tight ...!!!!
SRT_MIKE nope the wheel companies don’t use it. I know many of the Miami forged wheel guys and no one uses it. It will be a pain to remove later. This is the third time I’ve rebuilt these wheels and changed colors.
@@TunerwithKids I not bashing or nothing but that's crazy I'm just that person that will take extra safety precautions (better safe than sorry) Iv used the blue lock tight NOT the red and iv never had any issues removing the nuts sure it takes a little more to take off obviously, buts it nothing anyone can't handle but hey to everyone there own if it works for you it works ......keep building bro...!!!!!!
Its cool... everyone always over thinks how wheels are assembled. I've watched them do it and it's not as "precision" as people think. Even drilling the rear barrel for TPMS, everyone on internet thought that was insane but it's what you gotta do.
Are those Avus rims?
Yep. Old school man.
