  • In the history of Chinese aerospace, Academician Wang Yongzhi is a legendary "victorious general." Over his more than 40-year career in aerospace, he has led and commanded all launch missions to success. Through his and the efforts of the older generation of aerospace workers, China's manned space engineering crossed 40 years of foreign aerospace development in just 10 years. He is the chief designer of China's manned space engineering-Academician Wang Yongzhi.
Is this true? Dear audience! Welcome back to our channel! I am delighted to share and explore today's topics with you: 1. Can we glimpse the future blueprint of China's aerospace by tracing his glorious footsteps? 2. What insights do his leadership and innovation bring to us? 3. How did Wang Yongzhi overcome the challenges and difficulties he encountered?
Wang Yongzhi, the pioneer of China's manned space engineering, and one of the first academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. He has long been committed to the overall design and development of Chinese strategic missiles and carrier rockets, participating in and leading the design and development of six missile models, two carrier rocket models, and the "Shenzhou" series spacecraft. He was awarded the National Supreme Science and Technology Award in 2003.
Born in 1932 in Changtu County, Tieling, Liaoning Province, to a poor peasant family, Wang Yongzhi did not learn to read until he was six years old. With the support of his older brother, he entered the Bameichengnan Street Primary School at the age of seven. After the liberation of Changbei County, free education allowed him to cherish the opportunity to study. With excellent grades, he ranked first in the junior high school entrance examination for three consecutive years.
In 1949, after graduating from junior high school with excellent results, Wang Yongzhi was admitted to Northeast Experimental School (formerly Liaoning Provincial Experimental High School) for high school. There, he developed a strong interest in agricultural science and aspired to become a biologist to increase food production. However, the outbreak of the Korean War changed his aspirations. He was attracted by the Soviet-made MiG-15 jet fighter and the heroic demeanor of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army Air Force, deciding to apply to aviation colleges.
In 1952, Wang Yongzhi entered the Department of Aeronautics at Tsinghua University with excellent grades, later transferring to Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. During his time at Tsinghua, he laid a solid foundation in aircraft design. In 1955, he was selected to study at the Moscow Aviation Institute in the Soviet Union. During this period, the Soviet Union launched its first intercontinental ballistic missile and the first satellite, ushering in a new era of human space exploration.
