No one on the broadcast noticed but the play clock was about to run out. The ball was spotted from the last play at 2:55 and the timeout was at 2:16. Didn’t really save the Niners any time.
I remember the play so well when Warren Sapp twisted Jerry Rice back on that face mask call at 41:30 It was on a reverse and he just caught him up high and pulled back. It tore Jerry's ACL and caused him to miss most of the season, only to come back later in the year and break his knee cap. He was never as dominant from that point on. With Steve Young also getting roughed up in this game, it really set the Niners back that year.
I mean, he was great in Oakland...seems like he got some of his explosion back with us in 2001. And in 2002, he put up a 92/1200/7 season. At 40. That's absolutely remarkable.
Me too, and I miss the days News Corporation owned 20th Century Fox, Fox Searchlight Pictures, Fox Sports, Fox News, Fox Kids, Fox Broadcasting Company, FX, just to name a few.

They traded FOUR draft choices to move up and get JJ Stokes. Let that sink in. How sorry was the drafting that season? They needed to replace Watters.. there was a LOT of running back talent in that draft and they settled for Derek Loville... and gave up four picks for an average at best receiver in Stokes. Gosh, I cant figure out why Green Bay started dominating them.............

Jerry Rice tore his ACL in this game but came back in week 16. It's amazing that Rice came back from such a big injury in just 15 weeks. Only Jerry Rice could do that!
Jerry Rice had never stayed down after being tackled - I remember the longtime 49ers radio announcer Joe Starkey saying "folks, we LITERALLY have never seen this" while he was on the ground being tended to. Would probably have been a career-ender for most players his age but he had the work ethic to come back which he deserves credit for.

This wasn't our day. We got beaten by Tampa Bay on that day, but the good thing is, we put it behind us and win 11 straight games beginning the following week. Here are a couple of notable things regarding both teams uniforms: This was the first season the Buccaneers debuted their new logo and uniforms and don their new colors Red, Pewter and Black, and this will be the last season the 49ers wore white pants. They will thankfully retire their white pants for good and bring back the gold pants the following season.
The game that started it all. This was the beginning of the Bucs turnaround from laughing stock to perennial contender. They would go on to make the playoffs five out of the next six seasons.
