For anyone training to arm-wrestle, this clip may be THE MOST IMPORTANT video you will watch! I don't care how strong you are, If you plan to arm-wrestle even on an amateur level, you better take Devon's advice here seriously if you don't want to suffer injury. Thank you Devon for your great advice and thank you Vasil for posting this video.
Too late, my shoulders hurt for 1 month now because of side pressure, I hope it gets better, is bad I can't even use toproll or decent hook cause of the pain
Alexey didn't train side pressure. He trained shoulder and bicep curls with people pulling on him. He did have injuries earlier in his career, but he didn't spend a ton of time pulling sideways.
VikingII : Watch it again. Alexey isn't doing "side" pressure. He's in more of a table curl position, with his elbow inside his body, his chest facing towards the resistance, and he can see the palm of his hand. While some guys try to train side pressure, and maybe have marginal success, it's just not a natural range of motion in the human body for generating power, or fighting resistance. A lot of guys who start out always train like that and experience nagging soreness in their elbows. Others, like Michael Todd, will use side pressure instead of their King's Grip. He can do it because his arm is permanently locked in that 90 degree angle from having fractured his arm over 70 times. I don't think that's where most people aspire to be though. :)
+Jason Colbeck I train my side pressure only fairly frequently, but i make sure never to do more than i can handle. I train it slowly, and never train it too hard. Most people try to over do it, but i listen to my body. If i feel like i cant handle it, than i dont try to.
Archibald Doogan i agree in general. But in the west we place too much emphasis on training to hard. If instead your max is 10, and your instead try training at a weight of 5. It would mean you can do that every day and not tax your muscles but still keep gaining strength at the same time. You do not have to add full weight to make the gains. This is how the russian power lifters train for instance
Both Devon and Toddzilla both would agree that training heavy side pressure often is what results in injury. Todd changes the angle of his 1rm every week which to me means he doesn't just drag to the side every week heavy, one week will be side pressure and second week will be back pressure, then 45° angle then back to side pressure.
How do you explain alexey voevoda's side pressure training? He has two dudes taking on a rope tied to his hand and then another guy hold his am with two hands and yanking like hell as hard as they can on his arm lol!--maybe he had injuries i don't know about i'm not sure.
@AK Calderon i am conditioning my elbow and it doesn't hurt now while side pressure training. But developed a new problem distal bicep tendonitis.. painful bicep tendon
Dev do u workout as a bodybuilder i mean do u workout in a schedule like bench press inclines biceps triceps shoulders and etc with 3 or 4 sets ?? man btw is tht cross upside down on ur chest ?? man if thats true go to hell

technical genius Larratt
Side pressure just needs a slow progression that's all. If you don't rush it, the tendons/bones/ligaments have enough time to adapt

Man I wish I'd watched this earlier today. My elbows and muscles in that area are killing me, in both arms. Hope I recover :/

When I do side pressure i don't feel a pain in pronation, I feel more pressure on my shoulder, and also on triceps.
That is brachialis tightness and a weak rotator cuff
Train you rotator cuff and get a ball put it in the place it hurts and do light hammer curls
Lmfao says the Guy that pinned close to everyone with a press and aggressive side pressure
nope

Whelp I just threw my elbow out using side pressure fml lol but I won.

Does side pressure cause arm to break?
@flamr singh but my elbow hurts so fucking bad everytime i train side pressure. Extremely painful
@AK Calderon i am conditioning my elbow and it doesn't hurt now while side pressure training. But developed a new problem distal bicep tendonitis.. painful bicep tendon
yes train it but not hard
2025
After 13 years of avoiding side pressure training, Devon finally got stem cell therapy and defeated Ermes with side pressure and pronation. 😂
If you really think side pressure was the deciding factor in this match you need to take a closer look at armwrestling technique.
