  • Roy's on a major gooseshooting trip to Sweden with Aimpoint and the amazing Gustaffsons, where 50-bird days are minimum. He hooks up with UA-cam channel Feliew. They burst out of hides hidden in the stubble to build amazing bags, using a Micro S1 Aimpoint site. Meanwhile, Charlie is off with his dad, shooting butterflies with a miniature shotgun - pest control on a micro scale. News and Hunting UA-cam add up to a lengthy episode of #FieldsportsBritain

    Most enjoyable show this week Charlie et al. The section on goose hunting technique was a well done segment too,..thanks to Roy and David.
    So nice to see your Dad and listen to the information on those darn 'white flies' as we used to call them, although I would not have thought of them as the subject of a shooting sport either!!
    Thanks again!

    Good goose hunt! In the states the shotguns are limited to three rounds so reloading quickly and often is important.
    Unfortunately where I live the Canada limit is 3 per day.

    Do I see a double doublet at 5:45? Back in the days (let's say a couple of decades ago) in Holland, if you'd performed such a feat on geese, and wrote a letter about it to the Dutch distillery Bokma, you'd receive a free bottle of Jenever.

    Surprised me how much effort went in to the goose shooting, at best I might put a face veil on... never mind setting up hides like that 😂😂 thanks for the content

    So... I'm over a year late now, but get dad an a-salt gun. It is made to sport hunt insects like flies and carpenter bees. It can shoot a fine grit like table salt or a grit of your choice.

    From the farms of Sweden on a wild goose chase to a glorious garden in England on the great cabbage butterfly hunt.... It's nothing if not varied. Great show.
    Good to hear that the imbecile that shot the owls was fined heavily. Hopefully his employer got rid of him too. We've got to stop cretins like that or we will have no sport at all and then we shall all be chasing cabbage butterflies with air rifles loaded with grit. Dad's garden doesn't look big enough for us all, either.
    BTW = goose burger: Anyone know of a recipe ?

    Could anyone tell me where your elbow position should be when shooting a shotgun? I've originally had my elbow quite low down by my side and haven't really had any problems. However I've been getting suggestions to raise my elbow up to allow for more room in my shoulder, which seems unnatural and I see people doing both. Thoughts?

      They were recently added to the general licenses as pests, so you can shoot them year round, but geese is geese 🙂 / Charlie

    um i don't think butterfly hunting will catch on. Your dad is amazing and i remember the bumblebee ferreting but why don't you just kill the butterflies when they are still caterpillars??

    • @fieldsportstv
      @fieldsportstv  6 років тому +1

      We do that as well - you can pinch them out of the leaves - but best in the middle of the night, so it's not much fun as shooting. / Charlie

    I don't know if they are available on your side of the pond, but an American company is marketing a device called a"Bug-A-Salt". It is not much more then an airgun (modeled after a pistol grip only shotgun) that fires ordinary table salt at a decent velocity. It is marketed as a fun way of killing flies, but works on all manner of insects. I used one to end a bar moth infestation and have recently started hunting a variety of caterpillar we have locally that will cause painful stings if you touch it, as my five year old learned when he ran into one in our garden.
    Should make quick work of your butterfly problem.
