Houston, TX, United States ,Psychedelic Rock
"In the Spring of 1963, The Bar Eights were formed, with Fillmore High School classmates Danny Ogg and Terry Horde on lead guitar and drums, respectively, Timmy Thorpe on bass, and Dale VanDeloo on saxophone and vocals. Essentially, The Bar Eights were a Rip Chords cover band, with a few Lou Christie covers mixed in for variety. Aside from a few coffee bar gigs and a sock hop, The Bar Eights failed to establish themselves even semi-professionally over the next two years. When VanDeloo reportedly attacked Ogg with a mic stand during an argument over who would get the taller riser, The Bar Eights were no more.
Then, one sweltering afternoon in the Summer of 1965 at Clem's Music in downtown Houston, it happened. Chris Lyons was hanging around the store recruiting talent for a new band he was forming. He had already earmarked drummer Eddie Sura and keyboardist Jimmy Spicher, and was looking for a guitarist and bassist. Danny Ogg entered the store with hopes of trying out the new Danelectro that Clem had in. When Chris asked him to join, he agreed, but only under the condition that his friend Timmy Thorpe, who had just gotten laid off from his job at the glass factory and was bored out of his mind, play bass for them. Lyons agreed, taking on Thorpe sight-unseen. After a few rehearsals, it became painfully obvious that Sura was not working out. According to Ogg, "Eddie kept yelling at everybody, particularly Timmy, 'cause he couldn't keep good time." When Ogg ran into former Bar Eight bandmate Terry Horde at Clem's the following week, Ogg offered him the drummer spot in the band. Horde agreed. By that weekend, The Pla-Boys were playing their first gig, at St. Regis College for the Arts. In the audience that night was a man who would change their lives...
Ted Eubanks, an avant garde composer and fixture of Houston's mod scene, caught The Pla-Boys' act. Their set consisted mostly of covers of such garage greats as Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs and ? and the Mysterians. As Eubanks puts it, "They were playing this garage crap! It was horrible. But something about them struck me... I think it was their chemistry". Eubanks immediately approached the band after the show and offered to take them over. They agreed. But Eubanks decided that before anything was to become of them, a few changes would need to be made. First, the music. Eubanks immediately began injecting original numbers into the group's repertoire, and dissuaded them from the typical garage fare they had been playing. Second, the image. The Pla-Boys basically looked like something right out of a Frankie and Annette movie, with matching grey sport suits. But Eubanks got them good and "psychedelicised", dressing them in beads, mod suits, and the like. Finally, the name. From this moment forth,The Pla-Boys would be known as The Lemon Fog.

Thanks very much!

Thankeeee
I'm 77 years old. Never heard of "Lemon Fog" before. This is a wonderful album. Back in the '60's I used to buy albums like this because the album cover looked cool or I liked the name of the group. A lot of these groups back then produced excellent music but never made it big commercially. Thebestdream I had, thanks for posting this album! :-)
Makes great wall art as well.
Listen to Neon Pearl, my favorite psych album.
Frenchh on 73 y. Fell same bout this tune that ive sent to my son who is 41, great song an melidy.
Agreed!!
It's no wonder you've never heard of The Lemon Fog ! They only produced three 45's. They only sold a few in their hometown Houston. In 1982 a sampler of those 3 singles came out, with The Nomads on the b-side. This record on youtube is from 2011, it's the same compilation filled up with outtakes. My fav album from Houston is the debut lp from Fever Tree.
It amazes me how wandering around on youtube I have discovered incredible music I never knew existed and at age 54 I thought I'd pretty much heard it all truth is we don't even need any new music there's more here than you could ever listen to in a lifetime!
same idea💥
Yep , I’m 51 but always been a psychedelia phan. Just hearing these guys now, I’m diggin it.
true there are loads of good stuff. Psychedelics are somewhat special,
in memory of flower power spirirts, a special season and people. Always worthwhile to reevocate, listen.
Facts. So much hood music I would never even know existed
Amen.
I’m 78 this day and I remember having heard Pink Floyd, Jefferson Airplane, Quicksilver Messenger Service and much more. I never needed to use drugs, that music was enough to send me high
Yes ~ that music could take you away ... glad I got on the bus
I glad to have experienced Various aspects of Life on Acid👁 esp. Listening to Music
59 yo Italy here. Exactly what I think!
This is good stuff..I'm almost 70..still love old psychedelic time music...it sends you back
same, just hit 69, still love this stuff
63 here.....dig it too........luckily we have music ....IT NEVER fails to deliver, whereas other forms of art compromise with lying authorities !!!!!
I'm 64, still loving old psych music, still the best!!
67 here "and my soul has been psychedelicized"
And then the Reaganites just HAD to ruin the fun for everyone else.
Wish they still had radio stations that played music like this. My generation !!!!
I am digging for buryed treasures in lost music of this era. The era of the beautiful people. ❤❤❤ Hey I struck gold man !!!
God-these guys were incredible. Simply magical. I wish there was more of their work out there. Another great band that should have gotten more recognition.
A+
That first song, Summer, is the definition of a song that should've been on the Nuggets compilliations years back. Has a mellow organ driven pop-psych vibe that would've fit right in.
I have Nuggets and I agree, this would have fitted in perfectly.
Love that groovy sound !
It's 9.30am on Christmas Day in England , and i'm listening to this while having breakfast .
Same here my friend ..Merry Psychedelic Xmas to you
It's 3pm at Christmas Day in Holland , and i'm listening to this while having breakfast .
Ahhh, Christmas Day, good music and a Yorkshire pudding. The simple pleasures of life.
Xmas day in Quebec , 1pm , music that is my age and legal pot , what else to wish for?
Don't forget the marmalade merry Christmas
It’s 11:15 am in the American Midwest on Christmas Day 2020 having my first coffee listening to yet another psychedelic nugget dug up from obscurity.😎✌🏽☮️🎸
The psychedelic sound that came into view in 1966 and blossomed in 1967 was the greatest music ever made. It shot the Rock Album into high prominence and it soon dominated the record market more so from the British artists than the Americans. If u were to pick a five year period for music it would be 1965-70 for singles and 1967-72 for LPS and that's not counting
1966's Beach Boys Pet Sounds, Beatles Revolver or Dylans Blonde on Blonde. In fact, the main event that put the LP on the top shelf was the Beatles end to touring and their entering the studio for Sgt. PEPPERS. THE rest is history.
Vinyl albums rules. Where would we be without the great rock/blues/psychedelic/prog albums from the 60's and 70's? And the concept albums as well.
Never been into 7" singles though I have a few (like a handful or so), and it's only because I don't have the heart to toss them out. On the other hand I have about 500 albums.
A hidden Christmas present, but not under the tree.....instead here for all to see (and hear).
I just put the ham in the oven, it's 55 degrees in New Bedford Christmas 2020, looking forward to Summer and getting rid of this Covid Curse,. Nice album, better days ahead!
I'm 60, And I don't know how this one got by me! I Love the Psychedlic Sound and this has that Classic Sound! I will do a deeper dive on this groovy band! Thanks for posting!
Okay, that first song brought me back to the summer of 67. Cucumbers. Almost a full acre of them. I was 15 and I spent my summer vacation planting, hoeing, weeding, irrigating and finally picking them. They had to be a small size because they were being sold to a very well known company so they could make commercial pickles. Kept me working 6 days a week. Dad would say that I should be grateful that we were Christian folk because I'd work Sunday's too if it was up to him. LOL. Would have a radio going all the time, listening to the local rock and roll stations. Made about 600 bucks that summer which wasn't bad at all.
Hard work and strangely enough, really fond memories.
These days can you eat a pickle or will you refuse to touch them?
@@999manman
Actually, I make my own fermented pickles all the time, although I haven't planted a cucumber since those days.
I love this : brings back the vibe of that time - long ago.
Интересный альбом, лёгкая воздушная музыка,приятный вокал. Слушается замечательно.
The psychedelic website of winter ;p Thumbs up .....again !
"I wished music still sounded
like this as opposed to the way
it is today which is horrible."-🤔📻☕..
yeah thank god i was born back then instead of now...just imagine being in school now and having to be stuck with Brittany Spears and Taylor Swift and Justin Beeber...OMG i think i'd cut my throat...of course, kids today weren't around back then so they don't have any idea what it was like.....i guess you don't miss what you never have...when they get my age, all they will have to reminisce about are pop divas and rap artists....yuk
@@laikapupkino1767 if you have to hunt for it, that means its not mainstream music and thats my point. The only thing I hear advertised is pop and hip hop. Maybe a little country. Thats it. It totally sucks
i;ll 2nd that the 60s had millions of great songs today barely a handfull
@Alicia Godspell - Check out Fantastic Negrito. Talk about great. I told the lead singer online that he was a badass and all of his band members were too. I told him that 2 seconds into the first song of theirs that I had ever heard, that I realized i wanted all of their music. He was very impressed and said thanks.
@@flyboysteven9979 if you wanna blame something blame the culture shift in the eighties. Anything post 1984 is shit for a reason.
A little retro hippy gem. Thanks. Dig it.
thats a channel that must exist forever
Sweet!! My favorite type of surf music, the psychedelic sound with a twist of lemon.
Thanks BDIEH.
Lepa moja mladosti uz ovak u muziku, pitomu,sa cvećem na sebi i oko sebe. Neponovljivo. Forever.
Good trip brothers!🧨🧨
The Lonely Rocker digs this kinda music!
I hate Christmas... It's to sentimental.. But I love this kind of music🎶🎶🎶🎶😍✌️
Thanks for this golden gem! Cheered me up a little from the grief of a loved one's death over this Christmas..
🕊️
I imagine seeing a band like this in some basement bar via California Santa Cruz on a foggy 🌁 night Into the mystic 🧙♀️ and realizing what A Great night I’m having discovering a band by accident via 1966 67 ish
Definitely got that vibe! Some great songs and energies here.
The is a gem for sure. Thanks for unearthing and posting this album.
Merry Christmas Best Dream. Thank you for this "stocking stuffer"
It's -6° with the wind chill in Chicago. Thoughts of summer are warming. A psychedelic summer is even better.
My wife and I are thinking of visiting Chicago, there are 2 problems, we do not know what will happen in the near future with Covid 19 and secondly with the transatlantic flight (as an old marine I can jump from a plane, but I can not stand all the long flights lol lol lol)
Anyway, I wish you the best, Merry Christmas for you and your family.
Watch out my friend, stay healthy.

By the way, in Athens today we have a sunny day with temperatures of 17 degrees Celsius.

Stay safe and healthy. The vaccines are here but we're not in the clear.
I would love to visit Greece.

Have a good, peacefull, sweet summer all over the world.Greetings from Greece
Primo stuff. So why didn't i hear it back then ? Very enjoyable
What a nice discover. Usualy I dislike the pschychedelic sound, too much acid guitars. But here it's something else, closer to the Birds (12 strings guitar and Farfisa organ). The sound is simple and pretty good. As they say on UA-cam, underrated band. Summer, summer, summer.
Groovy, baby!... One of the best things I love about the psychedelic '60's scene is the use of "combo" organs (Farfisa, Vox, Howard and the like) they have a crisp, trebly sound that augments the other instruments and vocal sounds of the time. Even Mike Ratledge, of Soft Machine, on thier demo album and first single used a Farfisa, before acquiring his Lowery Holiday, often used with fuzz and wash pedals. Even more current bands like Stereolab relay on vintage Farfisa and Vox organs for thier retro sounds...
you might like early pink floyd, they were a mix of surf and blues guitar. never the super wahwah psycho-delic guitar.
I'M THERE!!! ~ I could live in this sound....Thank you!!!!
Disfruta de las navidades compaňero, te sigo desde hace mucho tiempo, tus gustos musicales son impresionantes.

my fave 2 Christmas Albums are Beach Boys Christmas and May Blitz 2nd, special the 3rd track "the 25 th of December" , next year 50th anniv. !
I'm so glad to own my Original 2 May Blitz vinyls on German Vertigo Label in very good shape, one of my treasures !
all the best to the music family from Germany
Thank you. So pleasant! The organ and vocals reminded me to go digging for the songs of The Blue Rondos that I archived long ago.
I was about to say I wish we still had current pop music like this, but we actually do. Thanks to the online world, I can listen to this late 1960s music, then immediately afterwards listen to some new tracks by Muse or Marina, for example, and then listen to some 1920s jazz - recorded IN the 1920s, then a George Harrison track from the 1970s, some Depeche Mode, etc. We are not bound by what's "current." We can listen to a wide range from many eras anytime we want to.
Merci ! Joyeux Noël !
Maravilhoso!!!!!!Mágico!!!!Sensacional!!!!
Just heard these guys for the first time wow
Thanks a LOT!
Really good music with great melodies!
The first song Is Summer... in Winter... I like It, good record.
