Oooh new channel to watch. Digging the format. Going through back catalogue. I'm a two unit guy too, commenting as I watch.... Intrigued result, as you say no casual drink absence vids. Case n point Dan Lloyd's latest GCN video (albeit still interesting)
I stopped drinking 18 months ago. My drinking habits were very similar to yours (slowly diminishing over the years). So much of it is just habit (and social pressures). Exercise becomes the stress relief. Over time you realise just how unnecessary alcohol really is... Power to you!
Suppose the minimal volume of consumption leading into the experiment contributes to minimal feelings of change. I also stopped the booze about 15 months ago when getting back into cycling going from what I’d say moderate consumption, anywhere from a few to 10-15 beers a week, and noticed consideration gains. Never set out to stop the booze but the feelings of better health and training focus became a bigger dopamine hit than booze. I’ve even just recently sold all of my home brew beer to fund a new bike build 😊
Wow! That's quite the transition but one I can only massively support! Thank you for sharing. I have to say that as time progresses, I gradually seem to find less and less value in my reduced consumption. I'm now contemplating another long stint without any alcohol and might even just call it entirely soon enough.
@@fondoquest Yeah, once the body clears the booze it has no appeal whatsoever, for me anyway. I’ve had plenty of good times social drinking but those days are now gone. I very occasionally have a sip, and it is just a sip, of a mates latest home brew but out of politeness and do find it a struggle to drink. Enjoying your channel, I’m gearing up for a big ride next year myself.
@@anemlachhomebrewing3690 You gotta do you buddy! We've only got one body so treat it well :) - good luck with the ride and thank you for following the channel, let me know how you get on.
My experience is that drinking requires training. When you come to the point of barely drinking, you might suffer from it more than when you were drinking like an alcoholic. One or two beers can have me hungover by the next day. Or can mess with my sleep and have me sitting in bed for 2 hours. I often joke that if I want to visit my friends back in my hometown in France, I need to train back to drink alcohol like a solid man ahah Now I prefer to train on the bike. It feels so much better. And it makes a lot of sense to improve at it
lol very familiar what you describe. In Flanders there's a saying that those who don't drink often are 'cheap drunks', it takes very little to get them drunk.... but the price we pay the next day, I agree with you, is not worth it at all..... how times changes.. thanks for watching and chipping in.
Are you still using JOIN cycling…and if so, how easy do you find using it outdoors? I’ve been using it for a few months now and seems to work quite well…but the challenge seems to be using it for outdoor workouts - seems best suited for rides on the trainer…so still trying to work out how best to use it now that the weather is improving.
Thanks for checking out how my little 'no alcohol' experiment went. Hope you'll like it. Thanks for subscribing and liking.

Thank you! Wisdom comes with age I guess, lol - so true about exercise being the stress relief!

I do yes and they now have a feature that allows you to push your workouts to a garmin and wahoo unit so that seems to work quite well for me.
I think drinking Coffee or other caffeïne holding drinks, has more effect on the body than drinking a beer.
At some point we can start wondering what on earth we can still consume (besides water)
