There is a lot of BAND-MAID iconography & references hidden in this vid. Like Miku tending the tiny Earths in the bird cage is a nod to "World Domination", MISA'S hand on the swivel looking glass is "Wonderland" & my fave of Miku & Saiki having evening tea in the gazebo is a recreation of their "Just Bring it" album art :)
... and Kanami watering the plant as a homage to "Blooming"; and her being on the stairway referencing "Stairway To Heaven"; and Miku repeating ah, ah, ah, ah as a tribute to the Who's song "Generation." Those clever Maids. I could go on and on... 🤣
@@GaryHolloway-810 LOL It's amazing that whatever the Maids touch turns into song... or artwork! Like Saiki sitting on the edge of the bathtub representing the ocean in the Unleash album cover. The secret, hidden jewels in Manners never stop, do they?
Now, a big thing happened this year - Band-Maid's label in Japan, Pony Canyon, has officially expanded their US office with a actual location in LA, and a strategic partnership with Hopeless Records, with the goal of bringing more of their artists to the US. The real sticking point, IMO, is that they don't speak fluent conversational English, so when they did get invited to big festivals in the US, including Lollapalooza (they were the first Japanese group invited in 13 years), they weren't in a position to really capitalize on those appearances. Now this new album, has 2 songs all written in English, and Miku and Kanami - the two guitarists, are learning English so they can be their own translator when they do a world tour next year. And those two songs are collabs with established Western artists. I believe PC USA is positioning them to try to push into the mainstream rock market in the US and EU, likely in 2025.
Thanks for this new information. I was wondering why Pony Canyon never promoted Band-Maid’s music in the US and what took them so long. Years ago, I tried to get Sirius-XM radio to play their music, and the reply I received once said their customers might not listen to songs in Japanese and something about their label.
good reaction guys, i think most normal people walking the streets agree with you on the corporate part of the music industry force feeding us what THEY want
This is genius bluesy classic rock. Just back from the Nene Valley Rock Festival (NVRF)- Classic Rock, Prog and Blues, where this would have gone down a treat.
The Asian music scene absolutely blows away anything that is happening in the west !!!!! The amount of talent that exist just blows me away These girl really show off their versatility in this song and if you listen to Misa on bass it will blow you away !!!
Shout to Music Mike!!! Great choice for the guys and Master Ed and Master Ian, great reaction again. Band-Maid does fantastic MV's and they should not be ignored, yet the Maids shine in the live recordings. Give "Manners" official live MV a listen. Definitely worth the listen. PO!🕊 🤘😆🤘 Don't like to get into the politics of things as it's bring negative feelings. I just say, sadly, there's a lot of great music which is not being promoted as it should be.
Good Manners? Oh, yeah! Thanks lead guitarist Kanami for your compositions, and 2nd guitarist Miku for your lyrics, and everyone else for everything else. Like the unique, awesome outro, every Band-Maid song has a touch of class because the Maids have class. A remarkable, important band in so many aspects! "aw, aw, aw, aw, aw, aw, aw, awesome!" Thx, Eddians!
Japan has a very healthy music industry ... they have so many serious routes into the music industry (clubs, idol 'factories', Anime, movies, their own sets of 'pop charts', theater, school clubs, etc.. and it's not that the West doesn't have, or at least used to have many of the same 'branches', but it's that Japan business knows that you can make more money from investing in good products with a premium cost, rather than you saving some money and giving the customers access only to mediocre products (but still charge premium prices for it.) And not only do Japanese music companies understanding this, but the Japanese musicians themselves come from a culture of hard work and study, and an artistic culture that takes the ordinary and are somehow able to turn it into special art forms ... you give them rice and raw fish, they give you Sushi ... you give them a shovel full of dirt and they give you back a rock garden ... you give them pop, rock & roll and metal and they give you Band-Maid, BABYMETAL, One OK Rock, and a hundred other amazing bands that have taken Western music from out of the dirt and somehow made another beautiful 'rock & roll garden'!
Sooooooo much better live. As is every single Band Maid song, better live. In fact, this one is coupled with Black Hole, live, showing a really wide range. Very old school in this song.
Since Band-Maid invaded my car cd player over seven years ago, I have listened to just a few minutes of terrestrial radio, and that was in between disc changes. :)
@@eddianproject My car is over 20 years old, hence the cd player. It is a single disc player, meaning I have to eject one, put it away, and then put the next one in. The player defaults to the radio during that 30 seconds.
You have nailed it to the reason that Band-Maid's music isn't played on American and UK radio. "Corporate xenophobia." The problem with corporate xenophobia is those in charge are unable to hear great music or discover amazing talent. When other competitors that do understand music come along, those corporate xenophobes become dinosaurs.
Thank you both so much! I knew the melodic rock and groove was what your ears and soul needed. ❤ 🎸 Please do explore other recommendations! The Maidiacs and Carrier Pigeons know their stuff. The frustration you both expressed about the UK/US music scene was exactly how we all felt. Until fate brought us to Band Maid. The Maids (driven by Kanami), have massive respect for the listener as well as their songwriting craft. The more you listen; the more you will be rewarded 💎 Here’s a few of my favorite Maid songs with memorable, catchy riffs. Keep them in your back pocket in case they get more mentions in the future 😊 1) DICE 2) Freedom (LIVE) 3) Play (LIVE) 4) the non-fiction days 5) Freezer (only audio track, but trust me, nobody will mind. ALL mainstream Big Music Industry on both sides of the pond is SHIT! What's not shit is this music video/song. It too is one of my favorites from the Maids and a cinematic masterpiece as well. Cheers Guys
Remember the 70's, guys? This song puts me right back in the days of good old fashioned hard rock. Except it's not old fashioned. It's maid in heaven by the best band on this or any other planet. Hyberbole? Nah - it's the inevitable conclusion when you've heard enough of their music. Yeah, I'm extremely biased. But this is a hard groove and I like it. They do so many fast and complex songs - I just love that they slipped this straight ahead rocker in there! Peace out.
Radio in the US is crap and is, for the most part, all owned by one company (xlear xhannel) (replace the x with "c"). They control the playlists for most of the FM stations across the US and only play top 40 (rock/country depending on the location). Most of the stations were bought out and all staff fired and then remote control equipment to send out the programming installed. They will never play anything that is not on the top 40 list. Thanks for the reaction and YT has replaced radio for most people now.
The LIVE in the studio version of this tune was paired with 'Black Hole', which is totally the opposite of 'Manners'. Yeah, the music has always been corrupt. No different today. Ask Rick Beato and Peter Frampton how many streams it takes to make $5000. About a million. It's like the old joke. Beonce songs have 5 producers, 4 writers and 3 lyrics.
If talent was all you needed to get in the Charts then Japanese bands would probably fill 30 places in the Top 40 . The quality of music of various genres coming out of Japan currently is so far superior to the rest of the world it's untrue . I say this as someone who has been listening to bands and going to gigs for well over 50 years - so I've seen a fair bit . TBF - the music industry has always been a cesspit of corruption ( and bad taste ) but hopefully platforms like UA-cam will eventually help to give the big companies the kick up the arse they deserve . Artists like REN have proved that it is possible to have success without the backing of a big label or radio plays and bands from Japan like Lovebites , Babymetal , Band Maid etc are thankfully becoming a much more common sight at big European and US Festivals and touring worldwide successfully - long may it continue !
