    IMPORTANT! I apparently suck at researching and there is an adapter that trek/bontrager makes to adapt a non bontrager stem to the knockblock system. So the stem compatability issue I talked about isn't as big of a deal! Here is a link to the part. I'm sure there are other companies making these as well, but this keeps the frame in warranty.

    I’ve just ordered one of these on a bit of a whim as it excites me. My main concern was climbing, I do like a climb. Hey thanks for the feedback and glad you enjoyed the video/review. As far as music, the metal music you hear on my channel is typically something I wrote and recorded which is typically why I incorporate it. I definitely get mixed responses on it, but its kinda my way of injecting more of my personality and such into the videos! Perhaps I'll try a review video in the future without music. Again thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it. Are you looking at getting a Remedy?

      @@Tkolbo_ It's one of several candidates, the time has finally come to replace my Slash 8 - 2013! I'd appreciate any insight you may have, my bike weighs somewhere around 15.5 - 15.7 kg, 42t rear, and while it's great on the descents - the only reason I ride at all - by the time I've got that sucker to the top of the hill, any damn hill, I'm a crap rider because I can't concentrate anymore so it seems I need heavily gravity focused trail bike or, perhaps, the best climbing enduro.

      @@quietknight8250 the new slash is a really really really killer bike. My buddy got one and where he lives he has around 500-1000m climbs for anything and he says it climbs pretty damn well and descends like a madman! The remedy is a killer bike too. I think if it as more of an all around party bike. It’s playful, poppy, climbs well and descends well. The slash will allow you to just plow gnarly stuff the remedy you will have to choose your line a little more carefully! Hope that helps!

      @@Tkolbo_ Thanks for that. I see the Remedy in ML and low setting has a wheelbase of 1184 mm and trail of 115 mm, I don't know the trail figure for my current bike but both these figures are slightly on the short side which will account for its playfulness. I think the most important point you mention, for my purposes, is that the bike is a great all rounder - that's the bike I need.

    I believe the 2021 Remedy is long and slack. I used to always seek the steeper head angle and shorter wheelbase for the same reason, I ride BMX. But I gave in and now have an Ibis Ripmo AF and once I got used to it, I absolutely love it. Best mountain bike I have ever had. I had a carbon frame right before it and I cracked it once, got a warranty and just realized I don't want carbon anymore.
    And how do you do an x-up on this bike? 🙂

    • @Tkolbo_
      @Tkolbo_  3 роки тому +1

      Well...I just checked and the 2021 remedy is exactly the same geometry as the 2020. The Slash did have a major overhaul for 2021 though going long and slack.
      This remedy is chillin at 65.6 degree headtube angle so pretty slack but not silly slack which makes it a ton of fun for all mountain riding. Sadly...there is no x ups on this bike which makes me very very sad...

    Howdy Travis - long time no chat...I found a the same bike and thinking about trading my SL for it as I've been cleared for high heartrates by my doc. Super stoked that I have a pacemaker that hasn't done a damn thing since they installed it. Other than itch. Any way, would you buy the bike again? I was hoping to get used to and beginning to like the 29" wheels but I just can't get there. They're just awkward to me.
    I'm surprised your on a large, after riding in Duluth those days I can't say I remember you being much taller than I? At barely 5'7" I'm looking at a med. I'm looking a few rigs but thought I'd ask since I know a guy who has one.

    • @Tkolbo_
      @Tkolbo_  3 роки тому

      Glad to hear you have been cleared to ride a regular mountain bike. Sucks bad having a pacemaker for no reason at all though! I really like 27.5 and 29" but for the trails here in the midwest with the tight twistiness I prefer the 27.5". With that in mind I would buy this bike again. I like that it has a shorter reach and wheelbase than most the modern bikes, which makes it incredibly playful and easy to maneuver, especially through the tight turns around here. It is just a fun bike man and rides great in my opinion. obviously its not perfect but it checks enough boxes for me.
      Also I am actually 5'11" most days, 5'10" on my worst days and 6'0" when I actually stand up haha. So yeah Large is a good fit for me.

      @@Tkolbo_ I tell others I'm 5'7" when I'm feeling good about myself. Short legs and long arms, worked well as a climber but on 29" wheels feels like I'm too far above the ground which also makes reach an issue. Found a Rmedy 9.8 size med, custom build which is used, but in great shape as well as an SB140 and Bronson both smalls. I'm leaning towards the SB for the short stand over and longer reach but really, really want the Bronson. The Remedy and its geometry feels good in a medium but the stand over is a bit much and I'm worried about my balls. And I won't be able to do bar spins, which is a bummer.

    Picking up this exact model this week, my main concern is the tires we dont have 7000ft decents in Australia we just have a heap of climbing to get a 4 minute down run. Have you or anyone commenting run 2.4 inch tires? If so how much do they effect the bike overall, thanks for any info.

    • @Tkolbo_

      I have not, but have a friend with the remedy 8 and another friend on a Specialized stumpjumper that also came with 2.6 tires. They both switched to 2.4 and loved it. I don't think you'll overly negatively affect anything on the bike. Maybe a little less traction here and there due to smaller contact patch, especially when running a lower PSI, but I personally don't think it's anything you will really miss. Especially considering the smaller tires will be lighter.

      The stock 2.6” Bontragers roll great on trail and XC stuff. For steep rocky gnar they just aren’t the ticket. I originally went with the classic Maxxis 2.4” DHF’s front; DHR II 2.3” rear; then later tweaked it to Assegai 2.5” front; Aggressor 2.3” rear. The Maxxis have more rolling resistance on XC type trails but are a massive improvement in the fun steep rocky, loose, fast turning terrain. I mtb for the steep gnar not into cruising XC trail stuff. Although I do plenty of the latter to get to the fun stuff.

      Hey thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed it! I will say the knock block is definitely a bummer, especially if you want to do X ups and big clicked tables or anything like that. You can still whip with it and all that. So I was looking at Transition Patrol, Specialized Stumpy, Salsa Rustler (this was before the release of the Cassidy and Blackthorn), Trek Slash, Specialized Enduro, etc. For the area I'm at, availability, and price point I was able to get this one worked the best for my needs. @@g0me2z So the 66 degree Head tube angle will help it be more plaful and easy to control the front end, but lose a little bit of the plowability. It won't be like life or death or day and night difference, but probably somewhat noticeable. You could do an angleset if you really like the feel of 65 degree HTA otherwise you can also see if you can use some offset bushings. Is it possible to get one to bar spin or not?

    • @Tkolbo_
      @Tkolbo_  3 роки тому

      If you are looking at one of these Remedy’s or any trek with a knock block system, it can be done under heavy modification (grind off some tabs on the frame) and crown race spacers to allow the fork to clear the frame. Doing this will absolutely VOID your warranty and will raise the front end up so much that the bike will not handle the way it’s meant to. If barspins are something you want to do on a trail/enduro bike, then you need to look another route my dude. Hope that’s helpful!

      I'm pretty sure I have the exact same dropper on my Trance. Giant branded post, has a little play and the collar comes loose on occasion, the giant and bontrager posts might be the same one aside from branding.

      I know that some Sram components are manufactured in Taiwan and some are in China. I'm not sure about these particular Guide RSC brakes. I'm not sure where my replacement Hayes dominion brakes are made. I think they are manufactured in Milwaukee, WI but I could be wrong.
