  • When you add a lift to your vehicle or change any of the steering components like the tie rod, drag link, pitman arm, etc... You should perform an alignment afterwards. In this video we'll cover how to adjust the toe. It may not be as good as a complete computer laser alignment machine doodad but this trick should at least get you very close if not dead on.
    If you plan to do more than 1 I have since started making these Alignment tools that make the job much easier! bleepinjeep.co...

    you can also do cheap alignments on any flat surface with stacks of 3-4 plastic garbage bags under each wheel, it lets you slide them around

      Titan i wanted a regular Cherokee because i thought they looked better. the grand cherokee is just better all around. better brakes, better suspension and nicer interior.
      once you pull the bumpers off and out on some steel bumpers they look great. if i could go back i would get a grand cherokee instead.

      I used to agree with that, but now I'm in a modded '04 WJ Limited. Hard to beat a V8 in a solid axled Jeep with a D44 rear and locked front/rear. That QuadraDrive is the real deal. The only drawback is that you have to open up the wheelwells more to fit bigger tires. These V8 models come with double cardan driveshafts in the rear so no SYE kit is needed. The '04 Grand Limiteds/Overlands are the king of the Grands (excluding the SRT8s of course).

    why didn't you put jack stands under the front axle? It would be much easier and whole lot safer.

    • @xmo552

      Tires can be worn unevenly or have uneven psi. Balljoints and bearings can wear and cause slop.
      Wheels could be bent. Of course..... ideally.... that wouldn't be present.
      Doing it this way isolates that out.

    • @TheRealMikeWilly
      @TheRealMikeWilly 2 роки тому

      @@xmo552 that makes absolutely zero sense. If you put stands under the front axle instead of under the body, AND THEN remove the wheels.... You don't have to consider how much the pitman arm has lifted the drag link which lifts the tie rod, shortening the distance. Your vehicle will be sitting at ride height.

    You can do this with the wheels on sitting on the ground. Just measure the insides of the wheels front and back, adjust until they measure equal. I have had good luck measuring the center tire tread as well. You can put plastic trash bags under the tires on your garage floor so the wheels turn easy, be careful pulling the Jeep onto the bags! FYI make sure your steering wheel is straight before you start.

How do I get them align up if one adjusting sleeve connects to both tie rods? Won’t one always be off? Is there a bad ball joint or anything else that could cause this? Hi Matt, I have a question. I have a lifted 05 Jeep Wrangler TJ running 33x12.50 tires with a Dana 35 3.73 in the rear and a Dana 30 front. I can't afford to swap them out for 44. I want OX E lockers. I was thinking of starting in the rear diff first then later do the front when I get the money. Should I go ahead and upgrade the axles also? I don't do rock crawling or anything drastic. But I do enjoy a challenge. I just like to keep up with the 'Boys'. lol... Jeep girl thing ya know. Love watching your videos.

    Hi Matt, Thank you for this video. It seems to me that the only time an alignment would be needed on an XJ is when lifting or when replacing the tie rod or drag link? Is that accurate? Whereas every other car I've own in the past, it was always recommended to get an alignment with every set of new tires. Vehicles with Y link steering only have the Toe adjustment, and that's adjusted by the adjustment sleeve on the tie rod, and so if that sleeve doesn't move, then alignment will not change?

    • @xmo552
      @xmo552 4 роки тому +3

      Its still recommended to align. You're right, if the sleeve doesn't move you shouldn't need it adjusted......
      But it does lose adjustment, especially if you off road often and also if you have large tires.

    Thanks for the tip on alignment. I have a quick question for you. Do you know if the alignment causes my 53 wagon to NOT Want To Follow around turns when towing it with a tow bar? Could it be camber and caster? My tires ware evenly so it's not way out. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    • @eclipcyde
      @eclipcyde 7 років тому +1

      Jerry Enebak I tow a lot of old trucks flat. Only time one didn't want to follow was a 92 f150, steering column locked up because I forgot to leave the key on it. Also, I have an M35a2, and when swapping tires to more modern tires on those it helps a lot to modify the plates that set the caster angle. If it's anything to do with your alignment, I'd look at caster first.

      The reason some with awd you can't lift is because of the factory drive shafts they use. Rzeppa for example, they dont like high angles. You can swap those out.
      Another reason, on 2011 grand Cherokees with awd for example .... the awd also gets you air ride suspension included. They use ifs and a live rear. The issue is the air springs. You can swap in convention coils to lift it.
