I was in this unit back in November for my wife’s Mule deer hunt that she drew. It was crazy how big and remote that country is. We also had the jets scare the sh*t out of us one evening.
Nice video. Its all about the stalk. Pulling the trigger is anticlimatic. The challenge and excitement comes when you find tracks or other sign and start the sneak. I generally choose the cow calf tag for more options. Always cover many miles before the shot.keep those vids coming
This has become my favorite show over the last year. Got caught up on all the old episodes on Amazon Prime, been following all the episodes in You Tube. I think it's great that Randy features his crew in some episodes. It looks like you guys are having a great time. I wish I was there instead of working. Good luck. Hunt well.
When I watch the crew hunt and do the monologue/commentary I have even greater respect for Randy's natural banter and varying informative story-telling live. Michael's improving but it's obviously not easy to keep the story moving without repetition. Cudos Michael. Keep on. Experience matters. This video was little long. IMO
You're hunting my favorite country on earth. Reach out if you wanna know about the ancient supervolcanoes that you tromped around. The fighter planes @13:15 are actually pretty common, and a wonderful addition to the ambiance. Watching them dog fight at night and canyon carve is amazing.
Not sure how many viewers know it: the “chuckling” sound @ 6:18, right after the guys talk about Chukar hunting was a group of Chukars. Tough to hunt, hard to hit, but hunting them is very addictive and they taste pretty good too.
I had this same elk tag last year. Same issue, not enough weather to get the migration moving. I did locate a couple resident bachelor bulls but it took ALOT of glassing to locate them.
Michael, those boots are nasty. Get yourself some "Bick 4" conditioner and slather a bunch of it on there AFTER you get those salt stains off the leather. Saddle Soap is your friend. Take care of the hoof-covers young man ! After a good slathering of Bick 4, get after it with some Obenauff's HD.
Great video as always! Embarrassed to be so late viewing it. What kind of rifle harness are you using? It would be great to be able to access my rifle without having to take off my pack. Of course I still love videos starring Randy, but I'm glad to see you guys out there making your own for the past couple years. The more content the better. Succession planning?
Looks like a good unit for me to try and get my Idaho Pronghorn in as part of my hunt as many different states for pronghorn that I can DIY style. Looking at GoHunt draw odds I know that Arizona is out. A Hungarian Partridge that’s cool 😎 I know that Randy would be proud. Good job guys.
The fighter jets breaking the sound barrier is pretty interesting. Once while pheasant hunting the space shuttle flew by on its way to Edwards AFB and broke the sound barrier. All the pheasants squacked and my dog and I limited out in a few minutes!
I had lots of respect for you fellas, until i seen that White Claw sitting on the table! LoL. Us in the beer industry say all was good in the world till y'all started drinking them Seltzer drinks lol!!! Love you guys and your videos! Life is to short to drink bad beer! I'm just hassling you fellas! Good Luck!!
Soooo yea !! I hunted oryx off range tag during the big bear fire in nm back in like 11. Hunted next to white sands missle range. Got on a track followed it for like 5 miles and it led to a bedded cow elk lol I was so mad but it really was so funny as well
Did you make sure Randy wasnt below when you started tossing rocks over the edge. Lol Another glass cleaning tip..vinegar and water with newspaper. Animals or not, it's all about good times and good friends.😊
Looks like a Kifaru Gun Bearer sling. I bought one last fall and really liked it. The only thing I didn’t like was when I slipped climbing a steep hill and buried the barrel of my rifle in the mud. I always pack a bore snake ever since. If you set it up the way Randy does (on your back) that won’t happen, but it’s not as easily accessible. The way Michael carries it, you can get it to your shoulder as fast as if you’re carrying it in your hands.
I live close to these units. Had a cow tag this yr and tagged out on the 31st after weekend of hitting it hard. Almost gave up! They just didn’t want to come down. They were staying tight on the Reservation.
A legend in my own time. I have shot at least one elk every year for 62- straight years. The introduction of the Canadian grey wolf stopped my string. The elk count in the upper St Joe River fell from 3000 down to 500.
I know the feeling I just hunted from January 2nd to the 17th of this year and saw not a single elk all because the migrating elk did not migrate and we cannot find any Resident elk here in New Mexico
Wait what I thought randy didn’t allow power tools (chainsaw) 😁 that’s a top of the line sleeping set up tent and all. And those duratrak tires are the best in snow 👊🏻
Been hunting there for years. I hunt for cow elk and it used to be great. More bulls than cows, but I filled a my tags. After increasing the tags from three hunts of 30 to 3 hunts of 150, they are smart enough to go elsewhere. I miss the good old days of seeing elk and filling tags out there. To many roads for that many hunters. The poor elk got run around like crazy that first year.
Idaho fish and game doesn't care about quality they just want revenue. Also all the people moving in from California and Washington has created a bad situation for those of us who are native Idahoans and for wildlife management.
Just a tip, your Tacoma TRD OFF-ROAD has a rear locker that forces both the rear wheels to turn (if you have the e-brake off 🤣) Only works in 4-low but it definitely helps in situations like the one you guys were in.
Haaa I know! You have to use the emergency break to put it 4 low which allows you to engage the rear lockers. I’m just an idiot sometimes and forget to take the break off 😂
Those tent and star time-lapses are the best transition shots ever!
Way to take what the good lord gives you.Love grouse and prairie hens.

You spoke of the natural world. You are so right. I feel obligated to say, "That's pretty neat!"
Yeeep yeeep! Great calls. As some would say, “that’s pretty neat”.
"Enjoy your spot" !
I said he sounds like the Neature guy, then he started doing that. 😆
Beautiful land! Great hunt! Much love to everyone involved with this channel.

I would have to guess that they’re Strike Eagles from the 366th FW out of Mountain Home (MoHo) AFB.
I enjoy watching you two cause you have a lot of natural fun together. 👍
Love the neature walk reference!
Ya that was pretty neat! Hah

Caught that too. Crazy to hear them chucking this late in the season.

Thanks, Scott! You're "Da Man!"
Good times just living the dream! Thanks for the good video. I enjoy all the videos (successful hunt or not) just for viewing the unit terrain.
Oh boy, your randy impression is exactly what I'd be sounding like if I worked for Randy.
you 2 work it out, and when it not happens you and all of us have a ton of fun trying
Keep grinding boys.
Good job guys, always stay the course is our creed...From goat to a hero in a matter of seconds in big game hunting... Especially elk....
Keep truckin guys I'll be riding along with you. Keep em coming! 👍
Those fighter jets are the same ones I worked on at the 366FW.
Looks like you guy's are having fun! Looking forward to tomorrow video.
Woohoooo do you know what is more boring than watching sage brush grow? Throw twenty ads in!
Nice orange shooting upland birds👍🏻

Idahoan here. The big bulls come to cattle ponds in the evening in this area fyi
A bad day at hunting better than good day at work! Question which black diamond head lamp is that? I’m wanting one too many to choose from?
25:31...white claw gentlemen??? White claw??? LOL!!

Kifaru

Fess up, who brought the white claw?
WE HAVE NO SHAME!
I was looking for someone to mention it! Lol. I was going to ask who brought their wife/girlfriend along.
As soon as I saw the white claw I went straight to the comments, I’m sure the 300win was just for show and they are really using a 6.5CM lol
This is what elk hunt, is really like, even with migratory tag.
I don’t know Randy, when guys that work for me make fun of the way I talk or my little sayings, I usually cut their pay. LOLOL
Hey man! We ARE looking for Big Hank! Hopefully I still have a job 🤷🏽♂️

I know that area just by video of the landscape. it is a nice elk unit
That unit sucks unless they get a bunch of snow south of there.
What unit is that? 40???
Hang in there....a lot of folks would pack up and head home. Stick it out and you will be rewarded.
Elk Hunting in a COVIDED Unit in Idaho...might get more clicks with that title. Great video, really enjoying that Parente banter
Must be by twin or mnt home I’m stationed there we fly at sailor creek range 🎯
Less crying more hunting 👍
I live close to these units. Had a cow tag this yr and tagged out on the 31st after weekend of hitting it hard. Almost gave up! They just didn’t want to come down. They were staying tight on the Reservation.

@@mxracer317 look at the regs

I had the same tag I saw a thousand head one day on the rez. I went north and found elk and best of all no people
We get sonic booms quite where I hunt too. They can be pretty scary. Fortunately the game animals seem to be used to them.
We usually blow it when we start screwing around and aren’t ready for them. Funny how that works sometimes.
